** Insight Broadband is a secure Internet service. In order to help protect our customers from unauthorized access of our network, and to guarantee the best possible service and support for Insight Broadband users, we do monitor our network. We DO NOT monitor the data that is transmitted by our customers. In the interest of Internet security, we do monitor the network devices that are connected to our network to prevent unauthorized access to the Insight Broadband Internet service. This helps to safeguard all of our customers.

The recording of the MAC address into the Insight Broadband database will also allow our Customer Care employees to better troubleshoot future issues that you may have with your Internet connection. As stated above, we DO NOT monitor the data that is being transmitted. We are able to monitor the cable modem's power levels to detect problems when troubleshooting issues, and Insight Broadband is also able to verify the quality of the service that you are receiving through your cable connection. This allows Insight Broadband's employees to fix issues before they are even noticed by our customers.

It is required that the MAC address information of a newly connected cable modem be reported to Insight Broadband before or immediately after connecting the cable modem to our network. This can be accomplished very easily by calling your local Insight Broadband Customer Care office. By doing this, you will eliminate the chance of having your account suspended due to the discovery of a new device on our network.

This "two-step" registration system was designed to provide better security to our customers, and to allow our customers to obtain the optimal service level that is obtainable with a high-speed broadband connection.

I like where they state several times...WE DO NOT MONITOR THE DATA OUR CUSTOMERS TRANSMIT...LOL...so it's not quite as bad as it seems. They actually had a software release awhile back that was supposed to help their techs monitor problems with our connections...I sure as hell didn't download it, to my knowledge anyway..LoL...They may have put it on my machine for me. I reformat so often, use adaware, and check msconfig for running processes...haven't found anything suspicious yet..but ya they have me by the bawlz..LoL
Oh my, that's quite a mouthful.
Don't just check MSCONFIG, cont-alt-del to see more if not all things running and if you don't know what each are for, search your HD for them and check out the properties.

Dude it's not my conclusion but a fact. ;) Read the BIOS text file, that's what I pasted above, a direct quote from the Asus BIOS ROM file's Readme text. Plus, in the BIOS itself you'll only see a max of UDMA 5 for an SATA drive on the ICH5 with post v14 BIOS's. No UDMA 6.

Yep, the only times I saw the ICH5 was faster was on a few AVERAGE results which were only about 1-2mb faster. Promise won out overall due to extremely high max rates.
I don't have any confidence in what that pasted Asus description actually means, but if you are telling me that your WD SATA drive on the ICH5 SATA controller will not run at DMA 6 (according to what your v1014 BIOS reports), then that's scary (it could be that the BIOS is just not reporting it correctly)! I would try it myself to confirm your findings, but I'm still using v1008 as I've never had reason to upgrade.

Omaha bound. ...Go Titans!

Yes, it IS scary and inexcusable. If your SATA drive is on the ICH5, go in the BIOS properties for the controller and you should see a UDMA 6 setting on the list. This is absent on v14 and later BIOS'.

Need some help - This is my first build ever, I have a 3.0C, the Asus p4c-e dlx, 1g 2-2-2 mushkin 3200, seagate120. I assembled the computer, booted it up and was in bios configuring, then the bios froze up!!! I rebooted and it said that the bios were corrupted and to insert the cd-rom, the bios said that they flashed successfully. Then I rebooted leaving the CD rom in and the computer never posted entered bios or anything, the screen is completely blank like it is recieving no signal at all. Please help. Thanks.

First I'd just clear the CMOS and remove the battery for a while, then go from there. Try then to get to the memory config area and set the memory timings/settings manually to their default levels. That CD route never does work correctly, I always do the old floppy routine with the new BIOS on it along with the flash utility. If after clearing the CMOS and removing the battery for a while, you still can't get a boot, then there is nothing you can do but RMA the mobo to Asus. :brokenheart: Although I'd try to remove EVERYTHING from the mobo except of course CPU, 1 stick of memory, video card & power supply then give it another shot. May also want to sub the video card, power supply, CPU and memory if possible to be sure it's the mobo.

Hi all. Hoping I can get some answers on a question I have. I just bought the P4C800-E, and want to set up the 2 Maxtor 120gig serial drives I have in a raid set up. Now, I've never set up a raid before and I'm a bit confused on how to do this. I know that there is a SATA port 1 and 2 and the Raid-SATA port 1 and 2. Now does it matter which ones I use. Can I put them both on the normal ports and set that up as the raid or do I have to set them up on the Raid ports and then pick which controller I want to use? Also is there a difference on which controller is the better one to use? Is the Intel controller better than the Promise controller? Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

I think my tempsensors are a bit high. I overclocked a prescott 3.0 ghz to 3.6 ghz at 1.5vcore
under load it goes over 75 celsius and the moboshuts down :|
Is there a way to disable this auto shutdown feature ?

That's past the thermal limit of the P4. So, you certainly do NOT want to disable that. In fact, it should be set to shutdown even quicker than that (in the BIOS). Since this is the thermal limit I don't think you can do anything about this since it's integral with the CPU, and again, you don't want to do anything about it even if you could. You need to get a good HSF unit and/or some good TIM, better case cooling, etc.

I should have said that's past the thermal limit of the P4 "C" CPU's, I don't know about the Prescott, it may be a bit more. However, 167°F is "baked" by any stretch.

The Thermal Limit should be sub 70C for that CPU. Go HERE and check the specific sSpec for your chip. You better get better cooling or have a reserve chip ready for when you burn up your core. Post your system cooling specs in the Cases and Cooling thread if you need some help with better cooling.

Wow that's even lower than the C series, I thought the Prescott would have a higher thermal limit since they supposedly run much hotter. (Hee hee, I typed "hooter" for "hotter").
Corleonee I'd definitely send that CPU back if it's running even near that temp at the default speed. Or, you must have an air gap between the CPU and HS unit.

Ive had nothing but good performance from this board for months. One of the best Ive owned. Been running a 3.0 @ 3.6 daily without a hitch on a Zalman air cooler and Kingston PC3500 2226. Havent seen any reason to change from it. I guess part of the reason Ive had no problems is I run all SCSI drives except for my LS120. But I run two SCSI controllers and lots of SCSI devices as well as SCSI RAID and have everything enabled on the board as well as TURBO and Performance modes for the ram. I have numerous USB devices and even run the IEE 1394 controller. Its just been a spectacularly stable system all together.

I will add however that I also run Win2K Pro, and it doesnt perform well with HT enabled under everyday usage with typical programs, so I disabled HT and get a much better overall system performance. WinXP supposedly uses HT in a much better manner, so this may only apply to Win2k usage.

I would recommend this board to anyone, anytime, especially SCSI users.

Hi
I have P4C800-E deluxe , W-XP home recently updated.
Does anyone else have problems with SoundMax 4 ?

" Now I have tried:
Intel infinst_autol.exe Ver: 6.0.1.1002 Date: 5/7/2004
And then installing Soundmax (.3630 from cd)
And the problem that remains now is:
If I run soundmax and in the soundmax window either "right click" or press "system menu" then the
program crashes. "

And why is .3630 available on "865 download pages" but not on "875 download pages" ?

Well, just color me stupid. I just spent 2 days formatting and installing a fresh copy of WinXP plus all my main programs. Only to discover that I put my new Raptor on the wrong SATA connector. I put it on the ICH5 and put my Maxtor (set to Master) on the Promise IDE controller. Now I am afraid to move the Raptor to the Promise SATA connector. Don't want to spend another 2 days installing, again.

Has anyone ever moved a sata drive between these two controllers without incurring problems????

When I first set mine up to compare controllers, I first had my Raptor on the ICH5 and moved it to the Promise. It worked, but I did have a few crashes. I don't know if that was due to the move, or because I was testing at the time. Since it's a fresh install you won't lose anything data wise or have to back anything up if you have to reformat again, so you'd just have to try and move it and see if it works for you.

I am a noobie, so please bear with me. I used Asus EZ flash to update the bios and everything worked fine, but on reboot, I get "cmos checksum error" and the option to go into setup or load defaults, I load defaults and everything boots fine, but when I go into the actual bios, it still says I have version 1009, but when I go back into Asus EZ flash, it says I have version 16. I tried again pressing f2 and having the bios on a floppy, flashed fine and then on reboot got cmos checksum error again, pressed f1 went into setup and saw that in system information it still said AMI BIOS 8.00.09 pressed f10 and then it rebooted fine without cmos checksum error, but I keep thinking if the system info still says 8.00.09 is it not updating the bios, why do I get cmos checksum error after flashing?

Use AFUDOS.exe to run the updates. I have never used the EZFlash myself but I think there must be a reason that the ASUS website recommends the updated afudos.exe file for flashing to v1016. I have always used afudos without any problems all the way from bios v1002. Check your bios file date. I think that 8.00.09 is bios v1011 and should show a date of sept 2003.

May give it a shot on swapping the controller from the ICH5 to Promise after I run the automated system backup from the raptor over to my maxtor. My Maxtor on the Promise ATA133 controller benches faster than my Raptor on the ICH5 SATA. :| :brokenheart:

I wanted to try the Afudos route, but with windows XP how do you create a boot disk, if you go to add remove programs, there isn't a startup tab to create a boot disk. How do you creat a bootable floppy with XP Pro?

Go to Dr DOS Disk For Bios Flashing and use this for creating the boot disk. Excellent clean bootdisk for bios flashing. Simply format a floppy and run the drdflash.exe to create the boot disk. Then copy the afudos.exe and bios file to the floppy. Boot from the floppy and type:

afudos /ip4c81016.rom

I personally always go into the bios and load the setup defaults before flashing and then after the flash reboot back into the bios and load setup defaults again. Reboot again with the setup defaults from the new bios file and then start to change any of the bios settings for overclocking and tweaking the system.

I successfully updated with the 1016 and the new Afudos, but when I go into system info in the bios it still reads 1009, is that correct? Did the flash not take??? Where can I see the current system bios after flashing?
