As a side note, what kind of temp monitoring software do you guys use on this board?

I've used MBM (with custom ini files) on nForce4 boards in the past, but can't get it to do anything productive on this NV570 chipset. I've also tried hmonitor, but its no better.

What seems to work the best?

I´m using the A2N-E with 2x1024 Gskill 6400 PK for a week and untill now only une crash but i believe due to soundcard drivers.
However despite the mems running at 800 the latency are 5-5-5-15-21-2T.
If i try to put them to 4-4-4-12 windows doesnt load.
I´m still waiting for my video card to test the system to is full and also for a new bios that gives more voltage to the memory.
If that is not possible and if i have stability issues, i´m not an overclocker, too noob 🙂, then i ´m going to trade it.

well i think i have the solution to verclocking it. i am in the middle of an rma and was going to get the msi k9n platinum but now i am not too sure, any1 had ecperience with that board.
anywayz, as for the OC'ing. basically my system is running at 300mhz fsb and multi of 9x. i set the HTT to 3x, PEG disabled, memory to 533mhz (it a corsair xms2) with manual 1.9v. the memory will run at around 770mhz due to the 300mhz fsb. asus does not detect the voltages correctly so they have to be set manually. THATS IT, DONE

Nice. Except, mine won't boot with the memory set to 533 - only 400.
 
well i worked but everytime the settings got resset when ever the computer waz restarted so i rma'ed it and hopefully shud get the dfi infinity

i find it odd that so many are having issues with this board.

it was a super easy setup, very easy to work with. running an X2 3800+ and i'm overclocked at 2.7 right now and it's stable.

from what i understand it's not the board that's picky about ram, but rather the memory controller of the processor?

i used corsair xms2 ddr2 800 and have never had problems from the get go. running 2GB and soon getting 2 more.

i would recommend this board to anyone.

Are you using oem amd heatsink+fan?
What settings are you using to get 2.7? Temps?
 
So, I found out my maximum HTT frequency is a miserable 230MHZ, that's pretty terrible. I won't even bother getting better cooling if my cpu can't possibly do more than 2.3GHZ. What a piece of crap.
 
I have a problem with the 304 bios. The bios will install without any problems but when I try to boot Windows the system reboots itself after the Windows bootup screen. If I'll flash back to 203 Windows loads just fine, but I have a problem with random system boots every now and then. The bios settings I used with 304 were the same than with 203. Anyone have an idea on what's causing this?

The 304 bios. If the 203 does not give you any problems just keep using it, the bios updates just address memory compatibilities anyway.
 
I've gone and bought this board... without realising a forum had an entire section just for the thing breaking! My last pc was an absolute nightmare because of memory compatibility so i'd rather not go through that hell again. Is there a well established AM2 board out there yet that is known to be a lot more compatibile with whatever i stick in it? Or as Steven asks... will it be ok if i carry on with some memory that will definately work and don't overclock? It all sounds a bit dodgy to me and i'd like to know that the base of my pc is as stable as it can be. Cheers

Doesn't sound like you read much of this thread. I have to raise a flag here for several reasons.

Firstly, you gave absolutely no details about your overclock. There's absolutely no way you could run that memory at DDR2 800 with the voltage options on the board. Secondly, you didn't address any of the major residual issues folks are having with the board - i.e. do soft reboots work for you? Did you need a BIOS flash out of the box?

I doubt that you managed to somehow evade all of these problems and still hit a 2.7 GHz overclock that runs two instances of SPi 32M and SP 2004 (or equivalent) Blend Test Stable, and still run your memory at a higher than stock rated speeds with soft reboots.

From what I've been able to gather, the problem isn't the memory controller, it's the memory voltage options. 1.95v is the board's max, which won't cut it as lots of DDR2 800 is runs at 2.1v - corsair runs at 1.90v, but that extra 0.05v doesn't exactly give you a lot of headroom. Of course, if you could tell us more about the memory controller, that might help us out.

If you read this thread in its entirety and visit the M2N-E boards at AsusTek, you can see that recommending this board to anyone is just bad karma.

@Napface - stick with DDR2 that runs at 1.90v, and you should be fine at stock. I'm starting to think that running the memory at a 2T command rate would help stability. I'm going to play with it some more after awhile and I'll let you guys know what I figure out.
 
Cheers inspire, I've just read up on the Asus M2N32-Sli, its pricey but they managed to overclock it by 80% which sounds... nice. Seeing as i've only got a few days to make this thing i might just go for the more expensive option but we'll see. Will be interseted to know how your experimentation goes.
 
If I recall correctly, the M2N-SLi gives you a max of 2.50v for your vDIMM. It still has soft reboot issues at anything above a 10% OC, but you'll be better off in terms of overclocking if you go with the M2N-SLi.

I remember reading a review on that board and I think the link is somewhere in this thread - I'll go see if I can dig it up...

A guy at AsusTek's M2N-E forums posted this screenie. It's a nice overclock - notice that his memory is running at 2T - that's what got me thinking. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

@Dalamar - Try locking your memory voltage in at 1.95v in the BIOS. The 'Auto' feature on this board is known to cause issues. Also, your computer is randomly restarting because you have the BSOD disabled (don't worry, windows does this by default). If you enable it, you might be able to get a better idea of what your problem is. Here's how you enable the BSOD:
Also, you should enable the BSOD on your compy so your can actually see the error message when your compy reboots. Right-click on 'My Computer' and go to 'Properties', then go to the 'Advanced' tab and under 'Startup and Recovery', click on the 'Settings' Button. Now find the box titled 'Automatically Restart' and uncheck it. Now, when your system hangs, the BSOD will be left on until you manually power down the system. This way you can see the error message, which should give some more information that may help diagnose your problem.

2 x 1 GB MB DDR2 Crucial Balistix 6400 800 MHz (4-4-4-12 2T) on 1.95v


My computer was locking up at the starting up applications, someone told me to turn off all my apps that was starting when windows started. Computer is running fine now, played WoW all night long with no errors. Am I in the clear for the memory problem that our boards have? Ran SiSoft Sander 2004 burn in for 6 hours,ended clean. Ran the memory test from microsoft and memory came out clean.
I dont plan to OC running it all stock......
 
Unless you need those apps for something... I'm not sure what voltage that memory is rated at, though - most CAS 4 DDR2 - especially the DIMMs that are rated to run at 800 MHz - suck 2.1v at stock settings.

You may want to run the a couple instances of SuperPi's 32M test. Shouldn't take more than half an hour. Anything more is excessive at stock.

Of course, there is the possibility that your startup applications were the problem and not your memory - which is my first guess. You might consider taking a look at your startup entries via msconfig and see if there's not something that jumps out at you.
 
I recently bought this motherboard as well. To bad I didn't read this topic first.
The following components are in there:

Asus M2N-E nForce570 Ultra
Twinmos DDR2-667/PC2-5300 512MB x2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ box AM2
Asus EN7600GT/2DHT 256MB
Zalman ZM-460B-APS Powersupply
NEC ND-4571
WD Hard disk SATA

The problem is that if I turn on the pc it shuts off again after about 3 seconds. No beeps, screen or anything.
Then when I remove the 2 jumpers next to the cmos battery leave them off for a minute, put them back again it boots fine. Then when I shutdown same problem. Does anybody have a solution for this? I can't reach asus probably. Just was on the phone for 20 minutes when they hung up for no appearant reason....
 
You should try flashing your BIOS to 0304 - if you can get into it... Some people have hads to literally spend hours trying to boot far enough to get into the BIOS with this board. If you do that, and it still doesn't work, come back and we'll help you out.

I feel for you guys with this board who are having problems - I've had it for awhile and I've read up on the problems people are having - In short, ask here first - I may remember seeing something that will save you some time searching.
 
Inspire- Nope they just started up with windows , i disabled them and ran SuperPi 32m test completed with no errors, ran prime95 for 3 hrs then shut if off for more WoW gaming. Everythings seems ok. SHould I be worried at thsi point?
 
Well, that's hard to say. I mean - it works with the startup apps disabled, so that's great - no worries there. But, at some point in the future, you may to be able to use a program that loads on startup...

What you've accomplished is a successful work-around. I've you can live without your startup apps, that's no big deal. Otherwise, you'll end up tackling the problem sooner or later... For now, you're fine.
