*** Official ASUS K8V/DELUXE (K8T800) Thread ***

First of all Hello to all the friendly people advising here

Now here is my setup
480W Tagan TG480-U01
AMD Athlon 64 3200
Asus K8V (Athlon64) S754
Elixir 552MB pc3200 * 2
160Gb Western Digital Caviar SE
Hercules 64Mb GeForce 4500 Kyro II

Fitted all the components as per maunals
Booted up ... created a sata driver disk and installed at win xp (sp1) setup
Windows installation ok.
Loaded up the motherboard cd and installed the 1st two things (i think raid and sound drivers)
Clicked on the 3rd option to install (the gigabyte lan)..nothing happened....clicked again ....system rebooted automatically
booted up fine next time went in to check if the sound drivers were ok...system restart..
Now i realised my system is restarting at random timings. (mostly in the first 5-10 mins)

Can some one shed some light on this issue?
To make it easier here are the list of things i have already tried
1, took ram off and got some samsung ram from mates pc...still random restarts.
2, All the bios settings are set to auto
3, Tried my Geforce 3 ultra from another pc... same random restarts
4, Went in to bios hardware monitor cpu is at 45c....while watching this at 45c the system actually rebooted. Even opened up the case and blow a fan right in to it cpu temp went down to 40 mb 30 something and still rebooted

Please help


I also need help on another problem, i use a Coolermaster Praetorian PAC-T01E1, and the back chasis fan's power cable to the motherboard is not long enough as for some reason this motherboard has the connector at the front end. Is there extensions for this cable available or is there any other way to get some power for my back chassis fan?

Ok, I am getting a "System Failed CPU Test" message. I have reassembled the whole computer, and I still get the same message. Do you think that my motherboard is messed up, or something with the CPU is the problem?

So, I would just move the jumper to the clear CMOS position, and then....

2)run it a few seconds under the clear CMOS position

3)shutdown

4)move the jumper back to it's regular/normal position

5)turn computer back on

Well that didn't work, but thanks. I am just going to RMA the hardware, now do what do you think I should RMA? The motherboard, the cpu, both?

Seeing that you can't determine which is @ fault; motherboard, processor, or maybe something else altogether I'd say RMA both. Wouldn't want to just RMA the processor and then later finding out the mobo was @ fault or vice versa.

b4 RMA'ing I'm curious & this may or may not be related to your predicament but are both memory sticks installed onto DIMM slots 1 & 3(middle DIMM slot empty)?

Just a heads up:

Like DeanHeart on page 20 or so of this thread, Cool n Quiet was not working on my K8V SE Deluxe. I have a CG core 3000+ (Newcastle). The 1003 Bios update fixed it for me, now it works just like it's supposed to.

The only problem I now have with this board (using it on an HTPC) is that windows 2000 will not install on an older belkin PS/2 keyboard -- oddest win2k error I've seen. If I use a different one (coincidentally, a Microsoft), it works as it always has for me.

A bit of trivia: A few of us have wondered if Cool n Quiet and Overclocking work well together. While I have only tried 205 MHz, C n Q continues to work, lowering the multiplier/voltage as though everything were normal. Haven't tried the meager voltage adjustment available (it's an HTPC, so quiet is my primary goal, given a sufficient level of performance).

Algere, I've tried both slots for my two RAM cards, 1 and 2; 1 and 3. I'lll call ASUS and AMD tonight, and RMA if they can't find a fix.

i have the A8V Deluxe (939) and a amd 64 3500 my mobo dose not recognise the hardrive(wd 74.6 raptor) i made the boot disk so when windows starts you press f6.when it starts to run the driver it says D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. please help:

You'll need SATA controller drivers on floppy disk for the controller that the Raptor is connected to and not the former.

So, for installing Windows XP Pro on one SATA hard drive, I need to make the appropriate drivers for either the Onboard or Promise on a floppy disk and push F6 during installation? Where are these drivers at on the ASUS cd, and how are the drivers made?

Yes, if your installing Windows onto a SATA hard drive.

Don't remember where on the disc it's located but I'd rather use the updated drivers from ASUS's website & instructions on how to create the floppy driver disk is described within the driver package itself.

Ok, the CD and ASUS' website both have the same drivers. Do I copy the whole file to the floppy drive, or just the WinXP folder?

Also, what is the MakeDisk.exe for?

Makedisk.exe is a small program that creates/copies the drivers onto a floppy diskette.
