$329 is an interesting number. I was expecting $399 - right between the $299 iTouch and the $499 iPad - or $349 at the lowest. So $329 is...nice.

$399 would have been a complete joke for a smaller tablet. I still think $329 is too high.

the mini doesn't look that much smaller than a regular Ipad, I might just get the 4th gen Ipad instead.

Already created a trade-in on Amazon for my iPad 2. Gotta get it setup before the trade-in value changes! $420 for my 64GB isn't too shabby.

Hmm, my first-gen 64gb iPad 3G is showing up to $225 on the Amazon trade-in...that's actually pretty awesome for something that is now 4 generations behind  Tempting, actually...it's gotten surprisingly sluggest with the latest updates!

Well wish I had waited to buy my 3rd gen iPad...but ultimately it is still a good product that should easily last me till the 5/6th gen.

I think the $329 price would be more palatable if it had the A6 in it for a little more future proofing. Now, I need to figure out how useful a small tablet would be for my mom!

Also, the iPad double-refresh makes removing the version number even dumber, because now you can't talk about the 2012 iPad and be clear either.

"Just half a year ago we introduced the iPad with Retina display and it's incredible, and it's even more incredible that we're here today to talk about the fourth generation iPad"

Yes... It is incredible what dicks you are.

Kind of sucks that they didn't keep it to the $300 price point. They're giving Amazon and Google an awful lot of room to compete on price.

Apple will let them race to the bottom. No need to cut into margin when they do not need to. I've head the Nexus already sells at a slight loss.

So, here's the real question. Do I pre-order the device or just go to the store to buy it? I'm planning on getting the LTE-equipped iPad 4 for myself, and if I can avoid the pre-order hassle that I experienced with my iPhone 5, that would be nice. Carrier stores are usually a lot less busy.

The only negative is that you've got an Amazon gift card, which may not be that useful to you depending on what you use Amazon for. However, not having to deal with eBay or scammers on Craigslist is a nice bonus.

when in doubt, Apple always chooses profit margin. They've done this pricing dance with the iPod touch numerous times between $199 and $229.

Personally I agree with you but right now, they still have the luxury of completely owning the tablet space. During the holiday quarter, just about anybody willing to pay $299 for the iPad mini will not let an extra $30 stop them.

Neither, you wait until the production lines has been going for a few months giving time for Apple to correct the various little manufacturing problems that seem to pop up with every new piece of hardware they release.

Then you buy.

On the plus side, it is the last one that supports the camera kit. So the last one with USB and SD card support.

This. I expect extremely solid sales of the Ipad Mini and don't forget the $329 is the cheapest version. Product makes sense up to $350 i'm glad apple put it at $329. Of course they aren't going to compete on price with kindle and nexus, the mini is going in with huge advantages vs those two.

I don't see any reason the ipad mini won't fall instep with the rest of apple's lineup and sell like hotcakes.

Also that new iMac is hawt! :awe:

I guess I am not the target market for the iMac but I really don't understand the design. Why make something so thin and "elegant" that the design compromises the functionality of the device.

Need an optical drive or another hard drive? Add wires and external boxes to your iMac. Want a powerful GPU to drive that high res display? Sorry, can't have that but hey, at least when you look at it from the side it looks thin!

Anything new with the 4th gen Ipad except lightning and A6X?

I wish my 3rd gen had lightning and releasing it only 6 months after the 3rd gen makes me think I should have waited but oh well.

To be fair, if you are the type that wants to open up your PC and upgrade things left and right, you're not the target audience. I wasn't the target audience for a while but my current PC (built in 2007) hasn't been upgraded at all and I don't really miss it.

yeah, I really don't see the point of "OMG thin and light!" in a desktop computer?
How do you open those up to upgrade RAM or HDD?

My wife needs a new iMac so I paid attention this time, but the prices of those are really gross. Especially if you can't upgrade it so you're forced to load it up when you buy, ugh. It's $2k for any decent version of that thing..

Well, it Apple's world...

$299 - iPod Touch
$399 - iPad Mini
$499 - iPad

So $329 for an iPad Mini is...weird. It's only $29 more than an iPod Touch, for a product that is twice as big. Interesting.

I should care since I don't own it, but I'm seriously annoyed that they updated the new large iPad. Everyone who recently bought it got fucked.

Really? How so? Did Apple announce that those iPads no longer function? Did people not get to use them during that time and was that of no benefit to them?

I suppose the crowd that runs out and buys the latest hardware just to be able to say they are using the latest hardware is kind of screwed but everyone else, not so much.
