Just installed mine and did some tests at stock, I ran 3dmark 06 and got about 1k in improvements over my score with my overclocked 8800gt. After doing the Rivatuner fix I was able to get 800/1900/1100 ati tool artifact free for 1 minute. It would artifact after about 3 minutes so I backed off to 795/1885/1070 which just gave me a 3dmark 06 score of 14728. I agree with the the idea that you get max stable and dial down 5 percent for longevity and stability. Q6600 running at 3.4 for tests. BTW these tests are with Vista 64 ultimate.

Apparently something borked and I can't select the 826 plateau anymore and the next highest setting is 836, so I had to choose the next lowest. I ended at 818 core, 1890 shader, 1062 memory stable overnight with temps peaking out at 64C. With this, I got a score of 15,277 in 3dmark06 (q6600 @ 3.5ghz). I'm running Vista 64 and I've seen posts where there's a difference of up to 1000 points between Vista 64 and XP, but I'm too lazy to reinstall XP to test this out. Regardless, 818/1890/1062 is more than what I expected.

Ok, I think we should all be using the same program to test for artifacts. My choice is ATI Tool. If anyone has anything better, please share.

If ATI Tool results in any yellow dots within 1 minute, I could not consider that a pass. So, lets post the best clocks we can get with ATI tool passing 1 minute with zero artifacts. Then you can post the speed that you set it at for most games. I myself don't mind when ATI Tool gives me a few artifacts, because you will never notice them in game. But for testing stable clocks, this is the best method, IMO.

Can you run games with that? Any artifacts in ATITool? That's an insane OC!

Mine is on the FedEx delivery truck so I should be getting it this afternoon. It's an MSI OC edition.

No artifacts on the tool... but unable to get thru 3D Marks... it is running cool at 100% Fan...

I'll post back what is stable thru 3D Marks 06... this is unmodiified.. I need to go thru it and get better TIM in place.... that will help also.

Please do.

Will you reuse the PWM and memory TIM? Only thing I've found that's thick enough to bridge the gap otherwise is Arctic Ceramique.

Many GT owners criticized the GTS launch. Nothing but a GT with a dual slot cooler, a waste of money.

I haven't seen posts of a GT (even with aftermarket cooling) reach this kind of OC. I avoid getting in the fray, but with certain humility, I say that the G92 GTS is more than just a GT with a dual slot cooler...

Linky

The cooler design is excellent. I think it's the best stock solution I've seen where 10% increases in fan speed yield very measurable core temp drops.

That surprices me  with the 3870 shortages I am really tempted to buy 8800gts. but that limits me from going xfire :s hate buying computer :(

nVidia's silent plan unfolds. ;)

As my granny used to say, things happen for a reason. I had two 3870's on order, cancelled, and waited for the GTS. I don't want to knock ATI, but there are too many newly released games that require good driver support. nVidia is way ahead of them on this. That alone is a serious consideration..

Ok...... 820/2002/2054 Made it thru 3D Marks 06.... The Shader Clock was binding it up .... 13.7k and some change not too bad for a Xeon 3060 on P5WDH....

I try to determine the clearance between Vram and the cooler.... cut copper pads out of the appropriate thickness sheet stock adhere in proper position and use AS or whatever there are a few tricks that help in positioning and assembly.

3. Or wait for the next king of the hill by nVidia?

I guess option 1 is a no-brainer because it's cheaper. But I don't know about the performance.
The GTS (512MB) has two known advantages: less power usage and built-in hardware video decoder. Option 3, for how long?

sell the gtx, if you can get 450 for it, then buy two 8800gt oc 512's from best buy SLI them and save 5 bucks. 455- 805 dollars cheaper, and faster than 8800gtx, 8800 ultra, especially if you overclock them.

Keep the GTX until the next lineup of cards, you won't see a huge performance increase. The GTX was a good deal if you got it at launch, considering it was king for more than a year. Stick with it until the next lineup of hot cards I say.

1.) Best Buy coupon only works on one item, and expires tomorrow
2.) Much higher heat and power draw from SLI, which means you might have to throw some money into PSU/cooling
3.) He's fine with the GTX; single card comparison, the GTX still wins. Price/performance wise, the GT owns the GTX, but that's not the issue here.

Oops-

Sorry forgot to list my brand and the fan speed

I got the EVGA 512-p3-n841-fr

I used rivatuner with 3 profiles 40-silent at idle- 60 percent when temps get to 60 and 100 if they get to 70. Even with ati tool scan for artifacts It never went above 65 so fan stayes at 60 percent. Played crysis for a few hours earlier after work and it never got above 64-67 with my wife running the heat really high in the house. What I LOVE about this card is its SOOOOOO much quieter than the 8800GTBfgOC that I returned to best buy, with rivatuner profiles that thing heated up to 70+ if the fan wasnt at 70-100 percent playing crysis or running ati tool. At that speed it was so damn loud I could hear it over my headphone audio and my wife once asked what I was using the hairdryer for.

I'm unable to O/C anything but the memory. Even with fan at 100%. This is an MSI OC edition that runs at 730 stock.

I'm at

730/1839/1050

I can see light shining through in between the GPU and HSF combo so I'm thinking that this card will need to be RMA'd. Or maybe I'll just pop the HSF off and fix it myself.

Also, after about 4-5 minutes I'm getting minor artifacts in ATITool with the stock O/C.

That sux man, I hate getting new hardware and having it poop straight out the box, reminds me of the day I got the 9700pro, I was all excited to unlock all the goodness and I bricked it at flashing lol

Yeah, hopefully ClubIT will be cool about it and send me a new one without me sending this back first. I work from home when I'm on call (which happens to be this week starting tomorrow) and I have to have my computer working. I really wish I hadn't already ebay'd my old card already! Poor planning on my part.

Try to keep an old school PCI card around-they can be had free AR sometimes- as a testing-backup card in case you need something. I keep a vanilla 6200 for these occasions. GL Z

My MSI G92 GTS arrived a few hours ago, i fired it up and did a small overclock with no worries, as standard the card is already overclocked to 730 gpu, 1,944 ram, 1,825 shaders which is the fastest of the gts's released so far, i bumped the gpu up to 750mhz and ram to 2000mhz, no problems at all and using nTune with fan set to 60% (where the fan was just noticeable) it never went above 65c after 45 mins playing HL2 ep2 at 1600x1200 max everything.
I am very impressed and happy with this card.
The cooler is extremely queit and at 50% i couldnt hear any difference from the standard 35%, the card was virtually silent.
Now to go and see if i can get some more out of it, maybe 775/2100? i will keep you updated.

EVGA 512-P3-N841-A3 805/1965/2250 50% fan speed @ 63c. I don't really need it that high so I normally run it at 770/1923/2150 45% fan speed @63c.

edited for temps.

Received my card tonight. So far so good... I ran 3DMark06 and scored 15,500. About a 4,000 point increase from me 8800GTS 640MB @ 620/1488/2000. Not to shabby...
