Ouch Netflix. Down 25% AH.

Yeah, doubling down on this “Add less quality content, charge higher prices, and threaten to charge you even more if we think that you might be sharing your password” strategy doesn’t seem to be working.

I haven’t seen Netflix make this many operational errors since they tried to split off the DVD by mail business into a separate company and called it Quikster.

Netflix is about to start a password inquisition.

"Netflix, the world’s largest streaming video company, warned a global crackdown on password sharing is coming. It seems like a serious warning this time, and it could mean an end to the rampant practice of borrowing a family member’s or friend’s — or loose acquaintance’s — login information."

Netflix said it estimates more than 30 million U.S. and Canadian households are using a shared password to access its content. The company said more than 100 million additional households were likely using a shared password worldwide.

The problem with Netflix is that shareholders will always expect it to be a high growth company. Kind of hard to meet expectations when you've hit a wall to that growth. Now they have to get creative without pissing off existing subscribers who have contributed to their prior success.

1) People have been warning for years that competition would finally catch up with Netflix (NFLX)......and behold....it did. It just took 10 years.

2) People have been warning for years that competition would finally catch up with Tesla (TSLA)......its still just a matter of time.

Dont fight the Fed. I think until they are done tightening, we will be in a vicious bear market.

(Or at least until the shit hits the fan again, then the crybabies my force inflationary money printing again).

Personally I prefer the Vicious Bear Market. :)

Yeesh, the June rate odds have jumped to a triple hike (assuming they do a double hike in May).

Doing some buying today as the slide from yesterday continues.

Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Facebook report earnings next week.

Debating on selling my Victoria Gold (VGCX) stocks. It's been going down but I'm still in the positives and I can use the cash. I think I will get out of individual stocks and look into different investment vehicles like GICs or Index Funds or something. I need to check to see what my bank offers.

Catching a falling knife, I see. Too early to buy. Gotta see what the Fed does.
I saw Jerry on one of the news shows and he was pretty adamant about a 50bp hike at the next meeting.

Gold stocks can be weird like that. I guess the fundamentals of the mining co. can be more important than the spot price.

In business school, one of my professors was Harry Markowitz, the father of portfolio theory. Now understand, there are a lot of assumptions that go into a pricing model but they're not reallly outrageous. Things like assuming that markets are efficient. They're not. But they do eventually come around to the fundamentals.

Anyway, the bottom line is that the more diverse your portfolio, the better you'll do in the long run. Index and sector funds are designed for just that purpose. But the way folks get boned is on the fees. I have most of money in T Rowe Price funds. These are actively managed so the fees are higher but they seem to work for their money.

Even so, no one beats the market consistently so I also have a good chunk in Vanguard funds. Not sure but I think for amounts over $10k, fees are less than 1%. I used to consult for Prudential mutual funds. And even in the rare instances where they actually made money, so much went to fees that after 10 years, you wouldn't see anywhere near the growth that the market actually experience.

F***ing parasites I say.

And now for today's fun fact - Musk owns nearly 76,000,000 shares of Twitter with plans to buy them all.

Can you imagine buying 76 MILLION shares of a company? That would be like one of your friends asking:

"Hey, what did you do today?"

"Well, I've been buying shares of Twitter since January......10,000,000 shares here, 20,000,0000 shares there"

"Today I decided to buy 40,000,000 more shares. My brokerage sent me an email stating that since I own more than 5% of Twitter, I have to fill out a Form 13D with the SEC........ I was like "fuck that"...... I do it when I hit 10%. "

I think that Tesla's competition is coming sooner than you think. The new Kia EV6 looks like a decent vehicle. Ford also beat Tesla to the punch by releasing the first electric truck before them.

My portfolio of index funds seems to have a weekly +\- 4% roller-coaster ride.
I have two US focused, two global, one European and one Danish.

Some investors have doubts the deal will go through. The stock is still trading below $52 when the buyout is $54.20.

The electric car guy.

There are rumors on the internet that not only did Musk found Tesla by taking it from two other guys, found Paypal by merging his company with it, but soon he will known as the "founder" of Twitter.

Granted, he did radically change Tesla and helped Paypal - (at least, until getting fired by Paypal).

Who knows how his newly founded Twitter company will perform. It might wind up as another boring company.
