Prem Watsa is hedging big time on global deflation. So I started reading up on deflationary risk. I want to put money into Fairfax and now I think I am going to. I'm still trying to understand all the cogs to this global deflationary picture so I won't say much other than this in order to see if anyone else here is reading up on the topic.

That's pretty much the mainstream view. I would say you're late to the party.

whoa.. how to hedge against deflation?

you don't want to buy anything that wont be used immediately (ie: corn) since it'll be cheaper next week

march futures expire this Fri.

march oil is at 51.75/barrel but current spot price is 52.40.

isn't this a good time to short oil and sell tomorrow (thurs) to make a quick buck before Fri futures deadline?

what do you guys think of TMUS they have earning coming out tomorrow. Usually they have these reports after the market close but they are doing it premarket. Is there a reason for this.

Is Fairfax priced in USD or CAD? By priced, I don't just mean what can you buy it in.

The dude is Canadian, and last I heard, it's a Canadian company. If it's priced in CAD, the CAD isn't doing so great lately. Outlook may also be not so good considering the economy is tanking.

Wow, Bombardier has been making the news in the past week. Didn't know how much trouble the company has been in for so long. Thought it was actually one of the better Canadian companies.

Pattern Day Trader:
any trader who performs four or more “day trades” within any five rolling business days.
Your margin requirements go up from $2000 to $25k.

but what if I don't trade on margin?
ie: I have $50k at the brokerage. I buy and sell Google 10times in a single day, each at $40k

Just play by the rules. Investors usually make more money than traders long term. If you cant play by the rules and want to keep less than 25k, you have to wait 90days before you can trade again (or transfer money around between brokers, as is possible). Lots of times Im usually at the 3 limit max, as I learned my lesson back in 2008.

My VFINX is up like 30% since I got it few years ago. Damnit why don't I have 10 mil invested in this. Oh....because I don't have 10 mil.

I've got VGTSX as my international exposure, any suggestions for a better fund with low exp ratio? Thing is only @ like 5% since inception and about where I'm at after a few years.

if you have more than 10$k in VGTSX, you could convert it to VTIAX - same fund, but %.14 expense ratio. if your account is at vanguard that conversion is a non-taxable event.

That's about right for international large cap. If you want higher risk (and potentially higher returns) yet still exposure to international large caps, I would go with an International Large Cap Value fund. VTRIX for vanguard, but EFV is also a good choice(more valuey).

I'm with ameritrade and don't think I have access to the admiral shares... I'll have to double check again.

AAPL is saving my portfolio almost all by itself. Another all time high today. Getting nervous . . . Is it time to sell? :|

Don't worry man, exchange rate between CAD and US is saving my ass. I have lost a shit ton on oil -- finally sold off half at a big loss to lower the risk.

Speaking of, oil is still doing the yo-yo. Back down to close to $49. Might go back to $53 by the end of the week.

Add CSIQ to that list. Missed all numbers but hinted at yield co. and went up 14%+ anyway.

Speculators gonna speculate.
