how many penalties are called per game?

Was the Brazilian flop part of the flow and beauty of the game?

Maybe if people knew flops wouldn't work, they would stop flopping and there would be fewer penalties called and it would improve the 'flow and beauty' of the game, eh?
Pfftt I don't want the flow of the game to be disturbed by waiting on a referee to look at video. Football is a faster and much more fluid sport than most American sports.

Most? I'm pretty sure it's ALL.

American sports are designed around consumerism and commercials. 😉

A penalty not given is also a disputed decision. Once you put review system in, the referee would be forced to review something every few minutes, in order to be 100 percent sure. It will open a whole can of worms and kill the flow of the game.

Not at all. There is only 2-3 instances in each game. Also, game can go on while the 4th ref reviews and makes decision.

Once decision is made, goal can be taken off.

It's as simply or difficult as Fifa wants to make it, the problem is, they don't want to do ANYTHING.

Agreed.

A simple fine for players would help. Look at the NBA, after they started fining this season (or was it last season), it has made flopping go down at least a little. And in the playoffs this year, even though I haven't seen a whole lot of it, I haven't seen really any flopping at all. In the 2 games of the finals I have watched I haven't seen any flopping. It's like when it's important and the best of the best you don't see as much.

Meanwhile the World cup is the opposite, time to get the most bang for your acting buck.

Man Mexico is flopping a lot, I know they go screwed on the 2 goals earlier, but flopping is not going to make up for it.

Another bad call, and I want Spain to win too. Tell my why they can't have a ref sitting on the sidelines watching the game on a monitor that can over turn crappy PK calls?

My kids love soccer (they actually have a tourney tomorrow morning), but watching this infuriates me. This whole offside rule is such BS I don't even know where to begin. Couldn't the defender just not advance as quickly to keep the attacking forwards at bay? Why can't there be an offside line on the field instead? Every other opportunity is a g'damn stoppage. As if it wasn't slow enough to begin with.

Another thing which I'm sure everyone makes fun of is the diving. I can understand you have to "go down" to ensure the refs see it but they're supposed to only call what they see. The worst part is the writhing in pain when they are tripped up. World class athletes sure have terrible balance and those shin guards apparently don't work either. It's such a f'n joke - there's simply no other way to put it.

Dead on. That's why soccer players have zero pride and zero integrity, and can't even act well either. They pull a Peter Griffin seething in pain for 30 seconds and then 10 seconds later they are up running at full speed. It's disgraceful.

Personally I think that's part of the reason American's don't like soccer as much, we were taught to get up and give it all. Not be a fucking pussy and draw penalties.

Any way. Dutchies fuckin' shit up !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooo

Best world cup game EVER! Im pretty sure everyone around the world was rooting for Holland
Every time Holland scored I cheered as if it was Portugal (yes Im portuguese)

On a more serious note though, holy crap Holland is ruthless when it attacks, they just cut through Spains defenses so effortlessly and really the game could have been 7-1 or so by the end

If they keep playing like this I highly doubt anyone else can stop them

Offside doesn't really work like that. The point of offside is to stop some player just standing near the opposing goal keeper all game in a 1v1 position. Imagine how boring the game would be if each team just kicked the ball to the other end of the field for the 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper. Then if the teams wanted to defend against it they would have to stand with that guy filling up the 16 meter box all game and never moving. How would you get any pace in the game if half the team on each side just stayed by their goal?
