Seagate pays generous dividend (if you bought at lower price). Like I said, I have it at 23.18 and would buy more near or below that price. In the mean time, I'll just rely on DRIP to add to the position and harvest a little cash by selling far outdated calls.

What does the brand "Bush" have to do with Seagate?
Former Seagate CEO Bill Watkins. The numerous PR from the company between 2008-2010.
nuff said.

He was highly noted for his Bushisms. He's also a Texan and gives off that vibrant all hip "cowboy" image so there's nothing surprising to me about that.

"Let's face it, we're not changing the world...We're building a product that helps people buy more crap - and watch porn."

"Realistically, I just don’t see the flash notebook sell," said Seagate CEO Bill Watkins. "We just don’t see the proposition."

And many more...

Poor GMCR...

Poor GMCR? If you bought it at the time of your post.. its nothing but poor.. http://www.forbes.com/sites/afontev...e-comes-back-big-time-in-after-hours-trading/

That said, I know jack shit about GMCR.. I do know that I'd sell if I had been a buyer today on the lows.. I wouldn't be a buyer tho. Read the company description..

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=GMCR

Not my cup of tea.. har har. Too much spotlight for such a niche market..

Hope you saw my reply to your question regarding dndn tho..

GMCR .... a guru at gurufocus just bought it.

I don't understand GMCR really. Most good investments take 15 minutes to realize how great they are. GMCR is not one of them.

I shudder when I ask myself what a list of Obamaisms would be. CEO comparisons to him? ZNGA maybe? Hype.. yep he did.

BTW: Texas has the best credit ratings for their municipal bonds. Its a very good state. Those "cowboys" must be doing something right.

Its hit its 52week high and it trades in AH. Seems like too many people are in that boat.

AOD @ 4.18 - 4.2
Smallish amount at first. Think of it as lending money to a stranger (because it is). .055 cents per share a month is upper 15% - that said, don't go all in until you get to know it. I'd make a joke about dating sketchy females, and I think I just did.

You're payment schedule had been set for the next 2 months, so no worries about chopped divs. They announce 3months ahead.. so...

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/alpine-total-dynamic-dividend-fund-203000754.html

Again, don't go all in on the first date.

I like AOD because its easy to liquidate if needed. As opposed to, say, .... crt . Yikes 11k avg volume. (Up 4+%, bought Thurs! )

edit:
Check out CRT 1 year for a nice example of the knee jerk reactions to divs dropping, People tend to get rid of it after it goes ex div.. This is also awful low volume.. So if you had a good amount of shares, you'd be the bull in the china shop..

http://www.google.com/finance?q=crt

Then PGH (I was a "victim" of mid july, how low can it go drop). I literally bought and sold all the way down.. My cost basis on the tiny bit of shares that I still have is literally the 52 week low.. Theres a lesson.. Never try to satiate your curiosity with "oh man, how low can it go - I will be the one to find the bottom". Its bad.. mmkay.

http://www.google.com/finance?q=pgh

Finally, CIM - Chimera... destroyer of savings.. the anti-midas. Everytime I buy.. poof. goes down 5%

http://www.google.com/finance?q=cim

Have a look at july 26th starting from 2.21 for my last adventure with this junk.. If you ever notice it is lower than what you sold it for last time u traded it.... its for a reason..

Thanks for the input. I was looking at TEF as another potential dividend stock. they are close to their low right now. EDIT: Also wanted to mention SPH, GOV and BPT. Ive got some cash lying around that I need to put somewhere, want to set and forget for a bit.

Poor GMCR...

I bought this at $50 thinking people were being too paranoid about the Sept patent expiration. Then they missed earnings and the price dropped in half, then there was news of the Starbucks brewer and the CEO stock shenanigans. All told I'm too deep into it to sell. Now I'm just riding it out and hoping to get back into the 40s at some point.

Texas is AA+, not 'best ratings.'

Alaska, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia all have the 'best rating' of AAA.

In KCG premarket @ $3.00. Looking to be a good gamble.

Edit: Stopped out at $3.89.

Yeah I didn't follow my own advice regarding the extent a dead horse can be beaten to death (again) and sold puts yesterday - synthetically buying the stock. Down quite a bit

in dividend CEF related stuff...

Got some DDF.. own DEX at 12.. might get rid of dex.. for obvious reasons (it does pay higher yield tho)

Sorry to hear that, man. I hope it was a small position?

I took a look at GMCR mayb a year ago. At hte time, valuation wasn't attractive so I never really had an intent to buy. But those patent experatins were enoguh to scare me off at the time even if it was cheap.

And today, I put GMCR into the "too hard" pile. I don't know where GMCR will be in a year. Coffee isn't even a duopoly. There are just way to many brands out there fighting for market space. Dunkin Donuts, GRMCR, Maxwell House, Foldgers, etc.

K-cup would have been interesting as a private busienss because it would only last so long and the owner could suck free cash flows out of it for as long as possble.

Relatively speaking.. small position.. big loss.

btw.. OCZ is holding up well. Fusion IO has an endless buyer of Aug 18 16$ puts.. no backing down the bid price when the stock goes up.. Someone is confident that FIO is going below 15.5..

I'm somewhat skeptical of it falling that much.. but.. i'm not feeling too convicted.. At least they have what could be called "The Wozniak put"*.. where a stock associated with apple has a higher floor than what it normally would..

*Steve Wozniak is their Chief Scientist

yeah at 3 bucks its a play. At that point your talking either a big win or losing 3 bucks.

But at 3 bucks your losses are pretty limited, priced like a LEAPS option but no theta. :)

Seeing 2.98 prints.

There is theta because of the convertible debt outstanding...

Time based decay into the dilution.

The problem with FIO's stock isn't that the company doesn't make good stuff -- they do, and they have signed a number of high profile clients. It's that the valuation of the company puts it at the priciest thing in the storage industry. Nothing wrong with some puts ahead of the earnings report. I considered a straddle, but the options premiums are just so high that it'd need to *really* break out in either direction for me to make $.
