W....T...F Vikings?? - As a Vikes fan I can say I am not that happy

Lions - Dang....Suh, Fairley, Vanden Bosch - Averil is no joke either.

Don't fret them taking Ponder yet. I also think you'll find out soon enough that taking him at 12 wasn't a reach. I'm hearing some insider info that most NFL teams projected him taken that early; don't pay attention to the wanna-be's like Kiper.

I'm also hearing the Vikes have a plan to trade a 3rd round pick to Redskins for McNabb, who they'll play a couple years while Ponder or whomever develops a bit. But they needed to grab a QB with their pick at 12, and many NFL'ers think Ponder is the most ready, or they were afraid Washington would try to drive a higher price for McNabb. If Washinton tries that now they have the option to play Ponder, cuts down on Washington's leverage.

I'm in NC. It sucked to be the Panthers this year; I just don't see any clear-cut #1 like A. Peterson or Manning.

I think he will be a bust and a locker room cancer, but IDK who else they could have taken. IMO, they needed to trade down for multiple lower tier picks since they have so many needs. But I highly doubt anyone wanted to trade for the 1st pick.

Will be an interesting year as a Panthers fan. New coach, new assistants, I have no clue what type of offense they will try to run or what players they will be releasing or trading. But it damn well better be a simple offense with Newton running it.

And I'm still not convinced they shouldn't have given Clausen a chance to develop. Not that I'm a Clausen fan, but I hate to see rookie QB's pushed into starting roles, particularly when it's an especially crappy team like the Panthers last year. The guy had no chance, nobody would've.

well you can certainly say the jets now are beefy in the center of the d line. a good pass rusher or 2 and a safety could make this a good draft.

I'm happy that my 'skins are playing draft day like grown ups
🙂

Somebody must have stolen the Danny's fone

Suckers. Newton will be a bust.

He won't be a Jason Campbell, a Russel, or Vince Young. I do believe he has a chance to be a Steve McNair though. All-star caliber, but not a Manning class. There are 3 things you can't teach, talent, attitude, and speed. His talent, athlectic ability, and speed are undeniable. Dude has a super set of physical skills. His attitude is poor off the field, but his arrogance and work ethic drive him to want to be great on the field.

He will never be a likebale player such as a Drew Brees, but I love his player mentality. The only they I question is his ability to focus and apply himself at that the proper times. He is a good football player and pretty good college QB. At this point you can only judge all these players on what they have done so far. This kid has been pretty damn good.

Weird draft by the Pats. I thought for sure they would add more pass rushers. The RB and QB picks strike me as luxury picks, which tells me one (or more) of the following:

  • The Pats don't like the prospects in the draft. In a 3-4, you need to either find a college DE that can play 3-4 OLB and be quick enough to drop into coverage, or a college DT with some pass rushing capability. Both are hard to project.
  • The real weakness on defense last year was in coverage, not pressure. The injury of Bodden really hurt last year, and outside of McCourty, there were no solid
  • Injuries killed the Pats D-line last year (especially Ty Warren), and he actually likes the personnel currently in place.
None of these explanations really satisfy me, though. I feel they could have made at least one of the RB picks a DE/OLB.
