No offense, but a lot of players are awesome in the D league so that doesn't really say a lot. Give him some more time before you hype him up because he'll round out in one way or another.

Also, the Knicks the underdogs? That's crazy, especially after last year and them pursuing the team they have now. If you want to cheer for an underdog, watch the 76ers or Pacers.

I was referring to Lin when I said underdog. I know the Knicks aren't an underdog.

Looking back losing Chandler to the Knicks sucked but in no way is Chandler a 15 mil a year guy. Not even close. Especially in today's salary cap.

I'm looking real hard at Lin but man I'm having a hard time seeing the major flaws. He's not an all star but he could become a solid point guard if he's not already there.

dougp it's unfortunate the spurs have to play in the same division with the best front office (mavs) in the NBA. Hopefully the spurs can retool cause I know we are. Triple D!!! Dirk, Dwight, Deron!

I know Cuban will spend the money, but don't get your hopes up. The Mavs are a team that's used like the Spurs in order to gain interested from other teams for a player. I'd also say the Spurs are retooling - Splitter, Leonard, Neal & Green will be great with Parker, assuming he sticks around after his new extension is done. I just wish Popovich would quit being stupid and actually play Duncan & Splitter together.

I know the chances are slim to none for both but then again there's a chance. Either way I have no doubt that the Mavs will land some good players regardless.

That Spurs core seems awfully weak, no offense intended. I'd consider all of those guys mid level at best (besides Parker). Parker is a good foundation piece though.

How are they weak? Once Manu is back from his injury, it'll be pretty rockin. You might consider the guys I listed as weak, but I then assume you don't watch the Spurs play. That group is young with plenty of upside, especially playing next to vets like Duncan, Parker and Manu. Also, keep in mind that the Spurs hold the #2 seed in the West, while maintaining the 2nd best differential, the best home court record in the league and hopefully their road record goes over .500 on the rodeo road trip. And, while I know Dirk was out, it wasn't nearly as long as Manu has been, or even our backup PG (TJ Ford.) It's really hard watching Green, Neal and Anderson all run the point when they're SGs.

They should probably trade Melo and Amar'e because Lin won't put up those numbers with them playing.

They shouldn't rely on him getting these numbers every night. Better off getting 12-19 pts and 8-15 assists a night, with the big 2 remaining the big scoring threat. The fact that Lin can put up these numbers, though, means that he can win games for them when he's needed.

If he can be fit into this team with Amare and Melo, the Knicks have a team. I hope for the best. He's fun to watch.

more to the point Lin is a good PnR point guard. Lin + STAT is going to be fun to watch. I'm not so sure how Carmelo will fit in there.

Mavs on a roll. 4 in a row against western conference probable playoff teams. Timberwolves kinda iffy on making the playoffs though.
Denver
Minnesota
Portland
Clippers

Showing those young'uns that fresh legs and leaping ability is great for highlights but winning games comes down to having a pair and making the shots when it matters. Which the mavs do really well. Just ask the Heat.

mavs will need to get extremely hot during the playoffs for them to have a chance this year. don't think they have it in them

Mavs didn't look that great last nite, but the clips looked worse down the stretch. Lots of crappy shots, but they're defense took advantage of a choking clipper offense (aka Blake Griffin.)

Only scary team in the west is OKC IMO. I can definitely see the mavs in an OKC mavs conference finals matchup. Truth be told OKC probably takes it. Only reason I dont give it to the mavs is Dirk. I dont know if Dirk has enough in the tank left to carry the team again. At this point in his career he needs some help. Dont get me wrong i still consider him the best Power Forward in the NBA.
Even if the mavs pull off a miracle again this year the Heat are a determined team and I really don't see them losing the finals again.

Was Griffin exposed last night? It was a total collapse down the stretch and he wanted nothing to do with shooting the ball. He had a wide open shot from 15 and he passed it up towards the end. It's great to be able to dunk and all but at this level you got to have a jumper.

I said it last year, and I'll say it again: Griffin is considerably overrated until the guy can learn to shoot. He'll be so exposed in the playoffs if all he has is an inside game, because the games are called completely different than the regular season. The biggest example of this is easily Dwight Howard - watching some of the series he plays in and takes the abuse he does will take a toll on Griffin was much as it does Dwight.

Yup, you really should overlook the Spurs and the Lakers - those two teams are terrible. Mavs bench is not what it was last year, hell their starting lineup isn't even as good as it was last year. Friday thru next Wednesday will be interesting because you'll play the 76ers, Lakers and Celtics.

The Lakers maybe. Spurs just don't do it for me. Just not much confidence in them. Too many scrubs they depend on. Duncan doesn't strike fear in anyone these days, Ginobili can't stay healthy, Parker isn't a guy that can put a team on his shoulders like Dirk.

Hahaha, ok man, let me know how that works out. Sitting in second sure makes one sour, no?

Hollinger isn't discounting the Spurs (Sorry for the ST link, but it's an ESPN Insider article) - http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191129

Also, a link on the Spurs defense as it has come into it's own form over the past few weeks - http://www.48minutesofhell.com/spurs-defense-winning-streak-rodeo-road-trip

And who are the scrubs you're talking about? Green, Neal, Leonard & Splitter? I mean, I'll throw TJ Ford in there despite his injury & Matt Bonner (ya know, despite being the best 3pt shooter last year.)

Like I said, discount them all you want - but don't be surprised if they make it to the WCF.

How'd that 1 seed work out for ya? Gasol/Randolph anyone?

JK. I kinda root for the spurs. As long as it isn't vs the mavs. I guess it's cause I've watched them so much being in the same division and all the games they've played vs the mavs.

Either way we'll have to agree to disagree.

Last I checked, the Spurs are 3-0 against the Grizzlies this year. Seems Pop finally thought about his lineups, 😀

I think I saw a stat put up on last night's game and Mavs have the highest scoring bench in the NBA right now.

I've seen that same stat listed for the Spurs, particularly in that game where they lost to the Mavs by 1 point. Unfortunately I can't find any details in regard to bench scoring, but outside of Terry, the Mavs don't have anyone who they can lean on off the bench. He's the only player I'd take over his starting position.

Yeah I said earlier in the thread that the mavs were deeper than last years championship team on paper. Of course doesn't mean anything till playoff time. Mavs have the best front office in basketball IMO. Delonte West, Brandon Wright, Lamar Odom, Vince Carter were picked up for nothing.

Terry, Delonte West, Brandon Wright, Ian Mahinmi all contributing big. Lamar Odom, Yi Jian Jian contributes sometimes.
