so RMBS bought this Global Lighting Technologies for 26mil..is this a good fit? They do have a lot of patents, maybe RMBS will now go after all monitor makers?? LOL.

They are swallowing up Global Lighting Technologies and bringing 12 members of its staff into the Rambus team, including the current CEO of GLT. They also acquire GLT's patents on LED backlighting technology. Samsung is a PAYING customer of GLT (along with many big names, ie: Dell)

Now here's what is interesting to me...

Today, after one day of Rambus announcing this news, Samsung comes out with a press release announcing they are switching all their monitors to LED backlight technology by next year:

http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/12/14/samsung.to.launch.tablet.pcs.in.2010.more/

Couple this with the announcement that Samsung's current CEO is stepping down and being replaced:

http://rttnews.com/ArticleView.aspx?Id=1156596

There have been many instances where the CEO of a company steps down right before a major event happens. In Asia (I'm Vietnamese), leadership steps down to soften the blow of something negative. People can blame the one stepping down, but the company just hired a new CEO and is seen as "switching directions" to not make mistakes again.

So...

#1. Samsung CEO steps down.
#2. Samsung announces switching all their monitors to LED backlight the day after Rambus buys GLT, a company holding key patents to this technology.
#3. Samsung announces production of 1gb Rambus XDR memory last week.

Who knows what this means. Maybe Rambus will offer GLT's patents as part of the licensing and settlement offer. Part of the market clearly recognizes the potential signs here as Rambus is heading towards it's $26 resistance on sizeable volume.

Either way, I'm just excited for January and the start of the AT Trial (with or without Samsung). Lets hope the ITC goes well and doesn't put a dent into things.

All Roads Lead to Rambus,
Azurik

EDIT: Rambus ascended to a new 52-week high of over $23+ on volume, which is good. What is not good is it's falling down along with the market - makes the pop look bad on the charts. Boo.

Countdown to New Years, but also make a countdown to Jan. 11th (when jury selection begins and the trial is "officially" starting).

they will go in fornt of the judge today at 2:30pm for the approval of the amended bankruptcy plan. a lot of weak hands and people that bought at 31cents/share got out or took some money off the table. no bad news that I could find. We should get some news tonight, just don't know if it's good or bad. I am holding until at least Friday.

looks like judge OKs the plan and Reuters picked up the stock is overvalued article written by a shortseller.

Haven't really been in here in a while. Wanted to say congrats to azurik on RMBS he has been completely right on the stock. I got out way to early on my options (around even money) but the HGSI lottery ticket netted close to $3/4MM.

Thanks Yoxxy, I appreciate your post and welcomed your criticism and inquiries earler this year. It provided a chance for a real discussion on RMBS.

I have always stated that if you don't know much about the market, it's a lot better to invest in several indices and be done with it. Or, stick to the investing style you are comfortable with.

RMBS is definitely not a stock for a person who is risk averse and votility makes them run. It's not a stock you can value based on past earnings. You need to have knowledge of the legal situation and be able to place a relative percentage of them winning/losing certain cases. You need to be aware of the DRAM industry and how it works. Or... you can have me post on ATOT all day for you guys ;)

I realize what I was risking when I kept buying RMBS at $5, $6, $7 etc. as the stock was tanking late last year and earlier this year (market meltdown and a fubar ruling). A lot of people jumped on the anti-RMBS train, but I appreciate those who had open ears and judged for themselves what to do. Now approaching $23, those purchases were right on the money. Currently, the problem is what to do with the 13,000 shares once the trial is over, but it's a good problem!

Enjoy the rollercoaster ride coming up (hopefully up all the way). I still think there's plenty of upside and the price right now will be nothing if things go RMBS' way.

Yah.. Just wow, it's dropping like there's no bottom. Wonder what's up. Didn't bite any before, should I today?

Shakeout of massive proportions - just bounced off $7 back into the $8.30 range.

I can't get my ggwpq order to fill from 7.3 to 8ish... I even put in the bid at or above the ask, still didn't fill. Finally filled at 8.11 in few transactions.

I was kinda wondering this too. I was thinking of a buy under $3/share with speculative loose money and sitting on it. $2.75?

Many say they wouldn't buy it at $1, judging no returns to be had for years.

I own a few hundred shares at a higher price so the logical choice is to buying some more at a lower price and hopefully in a few years...PROFIT!
