I was looking at Buffett's holding and one name that really caught my eye was CarMax. I've been thinking about this name the past two days and it's a name I should definitely own in my longterm account. It's a classic Peter Lynch stock. Buffett started to buy this name in the 2nd half of the year and now owns almost 10% of the company. At the current price, I can buy it cheaper than the price Buffett bought in. At little over 4 billion market cap, it has plenty room to grow and I can see this company doubling it's revenue and net income in about 4 years. Company has plenty room to expand as it's not in every market right now. Even in the market where it currently operates, it could easily open more stores before worrying about saturation. Best time to buy a retailer is while it's in the expansion phase and this company is definitely expanding. With the credit market uncertainty and current bear retail climate, this stock could definitely go lower and hopefully will. Lot of people must think so as it has around 17% of the float short as of Jan this year. I'm planning on establishing a position and accumulating on major weakness.

Interesting day today. Almost all our stocks are up except one.
13 out of 14...Not bad.

VEURX and PRLAX were up while FAIRX was down.
Treasuries took a nose dive today. So did VIPSX. :(

Thanks

All indications I get are that it's a stupid fund with high management fees "guaranteed" to make you money.

You're better off investing in stocks, bonds, and index funds.

The performance doesn't look very encouraging...

EDIT
This guy on M* put it so much more eloquently than I could ever do.

HPQ is up 8.24% today! W00t!!!

There's no question that HPQ CEO Mark Hurd is the best breed there is in the technology industry.
He's surpassed analyst estimates about 13 or 14(I've lost count) quarters in a row now?

Props to CEO :thumbsup:Mark Hurd:thumbsup: for his excellent management and the questioning every dime.

Bought my starter position in CarMax this morning in the premarket. Had a GTC limit buy order at $18.75 that was activated. This is a long term position so I'll aggressively add on any major weakness and build. No stop loss and no plans to sell anytime soon. I'm taking 4-5 years hold approach with this name.

I'll take GILD over DNA any day of the week.
I've had GILD for my mom for almost 3 years now.

DNA has and will always continue be a gamble.
Their pipeline is excellent. There's hope for them with their new wonder drug Avastin.

Wow, talk about blind luck. I bought 1000 shares of CBEY at $15.60, $0.02 from the day low. That's the best I've ever got to picking the bottom.

How long are you planning on holding that position?

Not very long. I've already set my stop loss at $18.00.

Okay, today is when I kick myself repeatedly and bang my head on the wall. Awhile ago I had set a stop loss for TTWO at the low 17s. Since then I been waiting for it to drop back down around the high 15s to buy back into it. Of course that didn't happen.

Stock market took a poop.

Portfolio down -0.43% today.
I was saved by GILD and VIPSX.

I hope BAC keeps on dropping. I've now set a limit at $35 and cannot miss this opportunity again.
I'll by 15-20% of the total number of shares I intend to buy, and will increasingly buy more if the stock moves into the $33 and $30 range.

Anyone here looking at telecom?
They've been significantly underperforming the market.
I'm looking(doesn't mean I'll buy it) into VZ more and more each day.
I think I prefer VZ over T for now.

No interest in telecom. US telecom sector left a bad taste in my mouth after the dotcom bubble.

I finished purchasing my full core position in CarMax today. Got the 2k shares I wanted so I'm done with that name. I'll purchase trading shares if it takes a beating but the core position will not be touched for years unless the company's fundamentals greatly change. Also bought back Costco shares I sold at $69 several weeks ago. Other than that, I'm sitting on my hands.

Interesting. Guess I need to look up how they did during the .com bubble
Of course I expect them to post reduced earnings with these new $99.99 combo plans they're all offering.

FYI, I'm still in my first whacky buy of the year, CPNE.

I'm getting absolutely killed right now this past week. There's a lot of erractic trading. This stock is thoroughly depressed from its high. I'm waiting for the earnings announcement at the end of this month from them... more specifically, their forward guidance. The action in between though, yowzers.

My retirement fund has hit a few hundred below it's principal value and I have almost no control over it : ( but my taxable account has been doing very well with most of the money in cef and some on qid. I've sold my India fund shares before any realized losses. Very frustrating since I had nearly a 60% gain on it since last year.
