A friend of mine has two tickets. His GF is not feeling well so she may not go. I don't wanna say that I'm hoping she is sick, but yeah, I am.

Dude, he could sell that think for like at least $300 (depending on seats)! He would let you have it for free?
300? Try thousands.

I said this at the beginning of the year... I will laugh my @$$ off if the Yanks don't make it to the world series with all these $$$ players.

1. NY Yankees 183,335,513
2. Boston 125,208,542
<snip>
19. Minnesota 53,585,000
<snip>

The Yankees payroll is greater than the combined total of the 2 other AL teams that they've played in the Playoffs this year.

Everything in NY is more expensive than anywhere else. We spend more because we make more. I'm sure if everyone in Minnesota was making $50,000 a year, willing to pay $100 for tickets, Minn would have no problem spending $200 million.

Yeah, I think $ is a good indicator of getting to the playoffs (not WS either), but once there, anything can happen. Hell, Backe and Williams shut down the Cards and Houston bats for 8 innings and held them each to 1 hit. I don't think anyone could have ever predicted those 2 to do that!

So, you think a $60million difference between Yanks and Sox is negligible? :roll:

The Yankees are the heavy favorite to sign the best player in the playoffs this year, Beltran, despite the fact that their outfield is already full of 3 All-Star caliber players, and even has an extra superstar in Kenny Lofton scratching his ass for a couple million. Why? Because they can throw away $60mil. like it's candy.

Kenny Lofton is not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

Eh, he was good at one point. 🙂

But yeah, the payroll discussion has been done to death and this thread is big enough as is.

Someone decided to quote payrolls as if Boston's 2nd highest was close to the Yanks, so I just pointed out that it wasn't.

ARod should be suspended and fined for Game 7 for his "malicious and unsportsmanlike" (right out of the rulebook read on Baseball Tonight) swing at Bronson Arroyo's arm.

Here's the last thing I will say about the payroll.
The Mets play in the same market as the Yankees. They suck. Why?
Spending money on a team is an investment. If an owner (and there are plenty of owners worth alot more than George) spends money consistantly for a few years, his team will be a winner. When a team wins, they MAKE money. The Yankees are internationally popular. You know why? Because people like rooting for a winner. And why do they win? Because George made a smart investment. I will not respond to any responses to this, because the payroll argument has been beaten to death 1000x already.

Ever consider why the Yankees can spend so much? Winning 26 championships and 39 pennants makes players want to play for you. With better players wanting to play in NY, more money is generated (ticket sales, jersey sales, etc.) which then results in more money spent on the team. Think about this like a personal investment. If you made a lot of money on an investment over a long period of time, would you not continually add money to that investment to get all you can out of your investment? Do not blame the Yankees for their salary, blame every other team for not being able to generate the same amount of money.

I think ARod just vaulted to the top of most hated Yankees after tonight!

So what? You want to set a salary cap? There would be ways of getting around it. Not to mention that there a huge salary difference when comparing other teams to eachother as well. Also, no other club is as succesful ($$$, not just wins) as the yankees, so naturally they can afford to pay their players more.

I'm sure he's all broken up about it too. Seriously man, you're going to give yourself a stroke.

Shut the hell up with this already. You are a complete moron. How about Cabrera intentionally knocking down Cairo last night? You want to talk "unsportsmanlike"? I have 18 hitbatsmen from the Yankees that can tell you unsportsman like.

You do know that if it was an accident, it would have been ruled a fair call. So hypothetically, if a person purposly steps into a baseball to get walked, he should also get suspended?

Well, the Mets do have good players who just underachieve. I think Kaz was the most hyped international player since Matsui, maybe even more than Matsui. Difference is, Matsui actually has game but Kaz still hasn't showed us his. Also, the Mets were leading the NL in ERA up to the All Star break. They just choked down the stretch to teams like Philly, Atlanta, and Florida. But they were still in the hunt, even up to the last month.

OMFGPRAISETHELORD!
Just spoke to my friend's GF. She said if she feels tommorow the same way she feels right now she probably will not go!
STAY WITH ME LORD OF ALL THAT IS SICK!

I am soooo pumped right now!
