Everything in NY is more expensive than anywhere else. We spend more because we make more. I'm sure if everyone in Minnesota was making $50,000 a year, willing to pay $100 for tickets, Minn would have no problem spending $200 million.

Yeah, I think $ is a good indicator of getting to the playoffs (not WS either), but once there, anything can happen. Hell, Backe and Williams shut down the Cards and Houston bats for 8 innings and held them each to 1 hit. I don't think anyone could have ever predicted those 2 to do that!

Spending money on a team is an investment. If an owner (and there are plenty of owners worth alot more than George) spends money consistantly for a few years, his team will be a winner. When a team wins, they MAKE money. The Yankees are internationally popular. You know why? Because people like rooting for a winner. And why do they win? Because George made a smart investment. I will not respond to any responses to this, because the payroll argument has been beaten to death 1000x already.

Ever consider why the Yankees can spend so much? Winning 26 championships and 39 pennants makes players want to play for you. With better players wanting to play in NY, more money is generated (ticket sales, jersey sales, etc.) which then results in more money spent on the team. Think about this like a personal investment. If you made a lot of money on an investment over a long period of time, would you not continually add money to that investment to get all you can out of your investment? Do not blame the Yankees for their salary, blame every other team for not being able to generate the same amount of money.

So what? You want to set a salary cap? There would be ways of getting around it. Not to mention that there a huge salary difference when comparing other teams to eachother as well. Also, no other club is as succesful ($$$, not just wins) as the yankees, so naturally they can afford to pay their players more.

Well, the Mets do have good players who just underachieve. I think Kaz was the most hyped international player since Matsui, maybe even more than Matsui. Difference is, Matsui actually has game but Kaz still hasn't showed us his. Also, the Mets were leading the NL in ERA up to the All Star break. They just choked down the stretch to teams like Philly, Atlanta, and Florida. But they were still in the hunt, even up to the last month.
