NY runner intentionally swatted at the Boston pitcher's arm while he was attempting to tag him. The ball was knocked loose and Jeter ran all the way from 1st and scored. The umps gathered and determined it was an illegal move by the hitter and called him out and put Jeter back on 1st.

Uh everything is wrong with it. So I guess every hitter who is going to be out at 1st or any base for that matter should try to knock the ball out of the fielders glove? Yeah, bright idea

espn is all messed up on this play...they have AROD out, and on first and jeter on second

Because when you cheat, it's an automatic out, get it? Like the Olympics, when you use steroids, you're banned and all medals are stripped from you. Come to think of it, if this was the Olympics NY wouldn't have Sheffield or Giambi b/c they would have been banned a long time ago

well i guess they showed the real reason not to try it, is that jeter didnt get 2nd base because of it

forgive my ignorance, I'm a football and rugby player. If you can try to knock the ball out at home plate, then why not for other tags?

it is kind of interesting that a runner can bowl a defender over but can't use his hand to knock a ball out.

but those are the rules and arod should have known it.
