hey kids! it's okay to make $22 million a year to play baseball and cheat to try and be called safe and think that you didn't do anything wrong!

This arod guy is payed 22 m per year?
OMG!

yes, he took a slight pay cut from 25 million a year to come to the yankees from the texas rangers. I think he's getting 22 a year now.

Actually, nothing wrong with trying it...he was going to be out no matter what. Might as well try to get away with one

Uh everything is wrong with it. So I guess every hitter who is going to be out at 1st or any base for that matter should try to knock the ball out of the fielders glove? Yeah, bright idea

forgive my ignorance, I'm a football and rugby player. If you can try to knock the ball out at home plate, then why not for other tags?
cuz the catcher is the most underappreciated player on the baseball field so no one cares what happens to him.

And they're also wearing some very expensive protection

Yes it should be. What if he dislocated/jammed/hurt something on Arroyo's hand, therefore causing him not to pitch? Assault is assault, any way you cut it. If I'm on first, can I clothesline the 2nd baseman if the ball is hit to him? There's a difference when you deliberately hit someone.

it is kind of interesting that a runner can bowl a defender over but can't use his hand to knock a ball out.

but those are the rules and arod should have known it.

Well when you think about it, when a runner sweep slides into second forcing the ss or 2nd basemen to either move, or jump over, that's more of a strategic play, and doesn't involve the actual action of interfering with the ball. Knocking someones hand with the ball in it is interference in every sense. Just my two cents.

the reason you can do it at home plate I believe is usually the catcher is wearing a lot more equipment then any other player on the field...

he hit him so hard he knocked the glove off his hand, it was blantly intentional there shoudl be some action taken against him

rofl, this wasn't an assault. He didn't punch the guy or try to run him over on his way there. He swatted at his glove/arm, don't make it more then it is.

Well then I suppose Cabrera should be suspended for the butt block he threw on Cairo last game.
Try not to be ridiculous.

Whatever. The appropriate action was taken. End of story.
No, there's a right way to play the game and a wrong way. Hitting players intentionally to knock the ball out is not the right way to play the game, you TAKE IT LIKE A MAN AND GO TO THE BENCH. Just like if you get hit by the pitcher, you TAKE FIRST w/out yelling m.fcker to the pitcher, it's the right way to play the game.

i'm not a yankees fan, but lets not kid ourselves. The announcers even showed a flashback to a previous game at Fenway where Red Sox faithful did the same exact thing. Fans throwing stuff on the field isn't unprecendented, nor does it happen much more frequently in new york then in other cities.

He didn't take no pay cut, TX is still paying some of his salary and he gets other royalties that = 25 mil.

Correction: AROD earns an average of 25.2 million/year through the entire length of his contract.
