Actually, nothing wrong with trying it...he was going to be out no matter what. Might as well try to get away with one

Uh everything is wrong with it. So I guess every hitter who is going to be out at 1st or any base for that matter should try to knock the ball out of the fielders glove? Yeah, bright idea

forgive my ignorance, I'm a football and rugby player. If you can try to knock the ball out at home plate, then why not for other tags?

In that type of play at home plate, the catcher is in the runner's way blocking off the plate and the runner has the right of way.

In A-Rod's move, he went out of the usual running motion to swat at the ball.

where did all those baseballs come from? were they all foul balls, or did the fans bring their own balls (baseballs), or did they buy them at the stadium?

most were probably brought by the fans. Many bring it just in case they get a chance for an autograph.

you know what's funny? If that one pitch to ARod that Varitek had to reach across the plate to grab had been called a strike like it should have been, none of that would've happened

The umps have actually done a decent job trying to get the call right tonight. How come they don't get together to confer during the regular season? Not important enough?

they do, but in the regular season the umpire that makes the initial call usually is the only one with a decent view of the play. Remember they add two umpires during the postseason to every game.
