-no solo mode ala RB1 = fail. Have no idea why they took this out. I play the majority of the time alone on drums and want to know if i'm getting better at songs. I also like to see my list with how many stars I got. They should show both stars and score.
-a lot of the songs you have to play to get to the good songs absolutely suck... ie whacha want... that song is just terrible for RB.
-don't get the RB 2 wireless drums yet. They have all sorts of issues with hits transferring across the pads.
-calibration is better than RB1, but still broken. I had to do a lot of tweaking to get the right settings at least on my parents rear projection TV. They should have left presets in at least for guidelines
-still some bugs, hopefully they will be ironed out with a patch
-20 free DLC songs not available yet unfortunately, I presume they will come out around the time GH:WT comes out so they have a hand to play against them.
overall the game is more like RB 1.5. But it's still RB and worth every penny :p 8.5/10 IMO

Wait, so there's no solo tour mode for drums? What game modes exist in RB2 for solo drums? I loved playing the drums in RB1 and would really want some way to enjoy this game playing the drums without having to have someone else around to play guitar or sing.

I'm curious as to how there isn't a solo drum tour, because when I pick to play tour, I choose my band, then I choose my instrument from the four. But I've yet to hook up my drums with RB2, so I've not tried it yet.

The "Challenges" pretty much replace the solo tour, so you can still play all your instruments solo. What appears to be gone is the convenient list of all songs along with your score/star ratings. Why the heck would they get rid of that?

I just failed Megadeth's "Peace Sells" on Expert at 96%. This is the first song that I've failed on RB2 although I've only been three/four starring many of the ones on the Legendary challenge (Master Exploder, Spoonman, Ace of Spades, etc.) I'm fearing the top-tier guitar challenge. I'm not sure what's up there, but I'm not sure I want to know...

There is no solo mode for any instrument where you just crank through all the songs in one long list ala the first game. That is what he was saying. There is only World Tour mode.

Theres world tour - you can choose how many people you want to play, and you can change it on the fly. So if you want to play alone, fine, then your buddy comes over and joins in and you continue. Then he leaves, and you continue.

Personally, I don't see a problem with the absence of a straight-line single-player progression like in previous RB and GH titles. I welcome the change. However, the straight-line progression did make it very simple to knowingly unlock ALL songs in the game, which is basically the first thing anybody does. If not for the online tips saying that marathon challenges were the way to go, I would be wasting time in tour mode right now.

There is, he meant there's no easy GH type solo mode like there was in RB1. Just the challenges and world tour, the same for all instruments.

ALL modes are single player as well as multiple player. You can do the challenges or the world tour as a drummer.. as well as the battles of the bands (most of those are better with a band.. .but some are meant for solo players). The convenient list of songs that you speak of is the quick play list.... however, they do not show star ratings there which really does suck . I'm really really hoping that a star display there will be patched in later. You can do the world tour solo or as a band. When you look at your quickplay song list, the songs there will show your best scores (achieved in world tour mode, challenges, or quick play... but will not count scores from battles of the bands) for the instrument you have active. If you are "logged in" with a guitar, it'll show your guitar scores. If you have your drums active you'll be seeing your drumming scores. If you have multiple instruments activated (guitar and a mic) then it will be showing your "band" scores. Though, I intend to have separate characters created for band play and individual instrument play.

As the last poster said, there is no "traditional" solo mode where you just play from a big list of songs, but every mode in the game is playable as either a single player or a band.

I'm perfectly fine with all of this personally, IF they will just add a star display to the quickplay list. It sucks right now not knowing how your scores rank without remembering what kind of stars you've achieved or searching all the world tour venues to see what stars you got there (it does show your stars in the venue set lists).

I don't know, all my RB1 pedals broke pretty quickly... and the break was always a crack that traveled right along the hinge. I'm not convinced (by looking at it) that the metal plate they attached to their drum pedal will stop that from happening. I love my wood pedal.. have had it ever since breaking my 3rd plastic pedal (and I didn't even play drums hard or exclusively).

Well I can only play on hard on those upper tier songs... and Battery was the only song I've ever failed on hard in rock band (when I'm sober).

Peace Sells is the only song I've failed on so far as well... I suck at Battery but can still squeak out a 4 star on it :\. I just can't do that Peace Sells end solo unless I get overdrive going, and a couple of times I've got to that point only to have OD not activate when I tilted... gah.

I find that the top tier songs in RB2 are much harder than the top tier songs in RB1, though the rest of the game is about the same (for guitar).
Does anybody else think drums are way harder throughout in RB2? I'm finding the easy songs to be about the same difficulty as the mid-tier songs in RB1. I'm going to have to spend a LOT of time in the drum trainer if I'm ever going to get decent on drums.

Ah, I've never seen a pedal fail on the hinge before. I always had them break right in the middle of the pedal itself so that's what I assumed.

I did go back and beat "Peace Sells" as well as the Impossible Guitar Challenge on Expert. "Souls of Black" and "Ramblin' Man" were pretty easy. "Battery" I passed on the first try with 4 stars. "Painkiller" took 2 or 3 tries and "Bodhisattva" can go eff itself (took about 5 tries). In my opinion, each one of them is tougher than Green Grass & High Tides.

Also, when I finished this setlist, all the remaining songs unlocked. I was around ~70 unlocked and then all of a sudden it jumped to 84. So anyone looking to unlock everything, perhaps you can just do all the linear challenges for just one instrument and get away with only playing the 30-35 songs involved in that?

Did you go through and count them, or can you easily see how many RB2 songs you've unlocked? I hate not being able to tell how many I've unlocked without just simply completing every challenge or completing the entire tour mode and assuming they are all unlocked. That's the one thing I liked about the linear progression of games past.

If you go into Quick Play mode and sort it by "Location", you can go to the top of the "Rock Band 2" section and it will tell you how many songs are in the group. I was doing this periodically as I advanced. I have definitely unlocked songs I've never played by just doing the guitar challenges.

If you do the first marathon of each tier, you will have all the songs unlocked. You don't even have to play the second marathon, just have to unlock it. Unlocking any challenge automatically unlocks any song in that challenge.

I have one song hiding somewhere unlocked.. .I'm not sure what song it is :) I haven't done all the challenges so I guess I just need to take the time to do them to get the last song unlocked. I've managed to get through the Rolling Stone challenge thing in a solo tour (the RB2 equivelent of the hall of fame) but I still need 400 more stars to unlock the endless set list 2.

Thanks for the tips earlier in the post...I had no idea. We were going through the sets, songs, etc...it was pretty, um, meh.

World Tour mode...I really hate this crap where you have to play the same song about 4 different times in order to advance. I'll have to do the challenge mode stuff to unlock some songs...just really pissing me off right now. (Played it with my cousins last night)

You rarely have to repeat songs to advance... you can go to other cities, or other venues within that city. Sometimes some of the "sets" will include songs you've already played... but you can always do a different set. I got up around 300 stars yesterday and was never forced to play anything in particular.. if I didn't want to play a song I just moved to another city or set.

and if you are just trying to unlock songs, playing in the world tour is NOT what you want to do. Do the challenges. All you have to do is unlock a challenge containing a song and that song becomes unlocked, you don't even have to play the challenge. So basically you have to play the challenge for your instrument for each level, and then play the first marathon challenge and that should unlock every song in the game.

Damn i didnt know you could do the challenge. That is pretty sick, I was under the impression you had to play world tour to unlock songs. So whats everyones favorite songs to play so far??

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that RB2 is getting a huge pass on what amounts to a large song pack? I mean, if this were Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament, etc., this would equate to a large map pack, and people would be throwing fits over the $59.99 price tag.

This game is 95% new songs and 5% "new game"... should have been $39.99.

On a side note, I think the songs themselves are generally "bleh". Some good ones in there, but not many. In all fairness, I knew this going in.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Music games, especially popular ones, rarely change their formula as it isn't necessary. What the hell else did you want?

What the "hell" else did I want? Did you not read/understand the analogy? It's no different than a map pack for a shooter. If COD4 released 15 new maps on a DVD for $59.99, you don't think people would be kicking up dust?

I expected an updated interface of some sort. They even recycled the menus. Some sort of veiled attempt at slight innovation would have been nice. For a top-tier price tag, that's what the hell I want.
