Calling people out on intelligence while using words that do not exist generally hurts your case.

Also, read the rest of that conversation.

What, so should I be offended every time I see something mentioning that God exists?? Give me a fvckin' break.

Only if you think atheism is a religion, and your lack of belief a faith. Otherwise, what would you have to be offended about?

I would theoretically be offended because they published something that disagrees with my world view. That is essentially what she is offended about. Whether it's called a "faith" or a "religion" has nothing to do with whether something offends you.

Unless you're trying to submit that all offense stems only from religion and faith.....

Of course not. Offense stems from whatever someone wants to get their panties in bunch about.

My point is that there is nothing to be offended about from having your "worldview" of atheism challenged, unless you held that worldview as a tenet of sacred faith as opposed to the obvious product of rational deduction. If the former, yes, you would be offended. If the latter, how could you possibly be offended?
Of course, atheism is NEVER the latter (whereas agnosticism always is), but that's another thread.

she can ban starbucks and nobody would give a crap. whoever is reporting this as news should be fired too.

dammit how come there are so many stupid people on this earth

Overreact much? This is only news because it can generate controversy for Starbucks, which is a win for Starbucks (why do you think they have this cup thing to begin with?) and a win-win for the particular news agency doing the reporting. It's like selling copy while selling copy. And you apparently fell for it, so if you're looking for stupid people, I suggest checking your mirror first. 😉

And people wonder why the news media has the largest profit margins of any industry on earth....

SPRINGBORO ? ? Michelle Incanno was an admitted Starbucks addict.

She'd buy the company's coffee beans every week. Whenever she'd get the chance to drop by a Starbucks, she would, placing the same order every time: a large, house brewed coffee with nonfat milk and two Splenda. When the Seattle-based chain opened a drive-through near her Springboro home, she was in java heaven.

Michelle Incanno of Springboro displays the Starbucks cup that offended her. The cup bears a quote from Bill Scheel, a Starbucks customer, that says that God may be a figment of our imaginations.Click to enlarge

That was until she got an unexpected jolt last week from her coffee cup.

Printed on the cup was: "Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure."

It is attributed to Bill Schell, a Starbucks customer from London, Ontario, and was included on the cup as part of an effort by the company to collect different viewpoints and spur discussion.

"As someone who loves God, I was so offended by that. I don't think there needs to be religious dialogue on it. I just want coffee," said Incanno, a married mother of three who is Catholic.

She wasn't satisfied with a company disclaimer saying the quote is the author's opinion, not necessarily that of Starbucks. It invites customers to respond at www.starbucks.com/wayiseeit.

Starbucks spokeswoman Sanja Gould said the collection of thoughts and opinions is a "way to promote open, respectful conversation among a wide variety of individuals. "

But Incanno said her Starbucks days are over.

"I wouldn't feel right going back," she said.

Edit: I did a search first, I promise.

That's not a religious statment at all... 😕

Dont mix religion and business.

I find it offensive to say that WE cause most catastrophes. Maybe in that losers life, he DOES.

That is just irresponsible of Starbucks.

You are a private citizen, and companies as entities have the same rights as a person, thus making it a private company. Owning stock just means you have faith in that private entity to invest in it. Nothing stops you to issue your own shares on YOU either.
See my post above yours in response to Amused.

In Financial terms, it's a Publicly-Traded company. This is distinct from a "Privately-Held Company" which is a company that does not offer stock for public sale.

Link.

"Private Company: A company whose shares are not traded on the open market. Opposite of public company."

Gotta love how people without a Finance degree like to mis-use the term "Private Company". 😉 How much do you want to bet that he never bothers to admit he was wrong?

A coffee cup should not be the medium for a person's opinion. People of differing opinions may also drink coffee, and thus be exposed to opinions that don't fit their world-view. Corporations like the coffee company in question are required to refrain from offending people and to avoid presenting any opinion whatsoever besides the logical "our product is good". This is to be expected, as it protects the opinions that are obviously more justified and it preserves objectivity and free will. The woman was quite justified in her rejection of said corporation.

yah well people of differing opinions also watch TV.. drive cars and have to look at religious billboards and signs in front of various churches. or even use MONEY since it all had ****** in god we trust.. NO I DONT ****** trust in god.. so why am I forced to look at it..
why Am I forced to have super religious idiots in charge of my country changing things because it offends them.

sorry your argument is idiotic..
Religion is printed all over the USA in public why cant someone that differs print thier opinion..

A coffee cup is just as viable a medium as a billboard or our money.. or the pledge..

get over it stupid weak people. when you die you decompose like everything else on this planet..
humans are not special.. and there is no paradise where you go when you die..

religion is still a crutch for the weakminded cows of the world that cant handle the concept of being mortal.

So many different religions, so many different gods. One of them must be a fake! Or all of them for all we know. You believe in your god, I'll believe in myself, thankyou very much.

With all that's going on in the world today, too many people bicker about petty little things not worth sh!t.

You're very confused. You're confusing a "publicly traded company" with a public institution like a government run school or what not.

Yo sailer! You need to check your sarcasm meter.

What the heck is her problem with his. Seems like a very narrow minded person who is afraid of real dialog that may shake her fragile and simple minded world view.

She buys brewed house coffee and thinks she now owns Starbucks and has the right to control advertisement and what they do?

Aptly, because right after I'm done drinking the content, it goes right into the trash bin.

Oops, I dribbled a bit of sarcasm on your shoes while I was wiping your spittle off of my face. 😛

No, it doesn't offend me. It's kind of a non-issue. Starbucks chose to put something on their cup, a customer didn't like it and is going somewhere else for coffee. Sounds reasonable to me. Everyone in the situation is free to make their own choices and it looks like they did.

100% agree with the women who was offended. That is not right, and wrong. I run a small bizz and if I ever put somthing on my product I would be DAMN sure I agree with it. Not right, and wrong, 100% Write them emails, and complain. Good for her.
