Bullying happens and has happened. However, it appears that with stuff like Facebook and things, that the bullying continues outside of school.

Sure, I suppose it may contribute, but then the suicide just shows individual weakness.

Who cares what anyone says or thinks?

Yeah, that 10 year old should have been a stronger person.

Ok, your statistics show figures for 10-14 year olds. A small demographic, but it does happen.

I am aware that deaths are very well documented. You kept referring to statistics saying that young children don't commit suicide. I wanted to see how the stats backed up your claim. Obviously they don't. lol

lol?

Dude, I provided you how to look the shit up yourself. Yeah the trend is it's happening NOW and in the recent past. This demographic never showed it. That's the problem now. Kids were always starving and sick, yet somehow this cyber thing pushes them beyond even those boundaries.

It's truly sad though the responses in this thread, but clearly shows the cowardly predator-like traits so many now have on the weak and powerless. I'd expect it in an animal thread, but now it's coming over to kids pushed too far by the same types of behavior that usually includes adults.

To those that feel you can just turn this shit "OFF"...please add your full name, address and phone numbers to your signatures.

No they should have had better parents and we shouldn't have pussified our kids so much as a society that they can't deal with it.

Dude she was TEN YEARS OLD.

I think what some people are missing is that bullying someone to the point of suicide is pretty insane. Basically that literally involves breaking that person down, which doesn't happen overnight. For these kids(and they are just kids) to reach a point that they think DEATH is the only answer is pretty fucked up. Call me a pussy but I feel for these kids I was bullied for almost 3 years straight in middle school/high school, but for me it ended when school got out, at least temporarily. After 3 years I finally got big enough and strong enough to fight back(literally kicked one kids ass while his Dad watched) And after handing out an ass kicking to two of my bullies it stopped. But looking back now it was pretty extreme what I had to do. The school did NOTHING and my parents made multiple trips to the principals office.

Honestly if you want to see bullying end, start making schools accountable. No kid should feel so trapped by bullies that they would think death is their only way out.

schools? No the parents. This used to be the case long ago. Your kid fucks up you do the time.

Somewhere along this line those same parents will now ask the school to deal with it and not face a lawsuit.

Today that little asskicking would have had his dad stomp you out. Then post the video of it online.

Your parents should have been able to solve your problem legally.

I feel bad for today's kids. At least when I was a kid people who got bullied only had to put up with it for part of the day. Now that shit is just persistent from sun up to sun down. You cannot escape.

Well his dad did eventually grab me and slam me against a wall after I started slamming his kids face on the concrete...

lol, I remember my dad picking me up from school that day and asking me if the kid started crying after I hit him. I said he started crying like a girl when he was on the ground.

He just said good job, lol.

People can be very cruel. Also you cant fight at school these days. They actually ticket you.

Remember the yahoo chatrooms were cleaned up and shutdown I think because of the egging on of suicides.

Bullying is itself a symptom and not a cause. I learned at an early age that merely controlling the bullying didn't end it.

I was the anti bully bully. I regularly climbed on my white shining horse and sought out those I saw bullying others. I'd pummel them all the while explaining to them exactly why I was beating them and what they could expect if I caught them again. The usual scenario was 2 or 3 beatings and then they became my 'new best friend.'

It didn't stop their bullying except when I was around. It didn't matter if I beat them for actions reported by others or not. Their attitude never changed.

I learned they had deep seated fears and insecurities that literally could not be beat out of them. I learned something else as well. Crusading is one sure way to unite all the kids against you.

You see most people are followers and the previous bullies were oh so good at gaining sympathy from teachers, parents and, even the kids they used to bully. The only way for bullying to end is for schools, parents and, school districts to admit it is a very real problem and exert themselves to end it. I suspect that it will require holding them responsible because the fear of lawsuits is greater than the distaste for some kid being beat up.

why not just curb stomp him?

this just seems nutty.

slamming his face into concrete?

Kid sucker punched me in front of his dad. I kinda went nuts like ralphie from christmas story. I tackled him to ground started punching him repetitively. When I stopped he turned over and start to crawl away then said something about me being an asshole so I grabbed a fistful of hair and started slamming his face into the ground. At that point his Dad grabbed me slammed me against the wall then a couple teachers grabbed his Dad and pulled him away. We both got suspended, him for 5 days for 'instigating.' Me for 3 days

It's interesting to me that pretty much every fight I ever saw in school (or participated in) was a messy draw with few punches landed and no clear winner, but every single fight recounted in this thread has resulted in the decisive and righteous pummeling of the other kid (upto and including broken noses and heads being slammed into concrete), who always was the one who started it, but never dared make that mistake again.

You should have kicked him the nuts a few times as well.

give kids these days spend a lot of time online, it is part of their life. Heck, tons of people here (including yours truly) practically live online.

It isn't part of their life if they don't let it be. They don't have to " practically live online ".

Their Parents are just as responsible as the bullies in these cases.

My son wanted to be an internet addict when he was young, but we would not allow him more than a few hours a day on the internet/computer ( and that time was supervised ). No he didn't like it much and we did have quite a few arguments over it. However he grew up a better person for it in spite of himself. It is an inconvenience for parents to do this and the easiest way is to just let them have it. Easier isn't always the right way.

I think it's just publicized more.

My .02

well, there really exists a new outlet--social media. You used to be able to go home and escape it. This is no longer possible.

I think the issue has definitely gotten worse b/c of this.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before.

It's because true self-defense, that supplied by a gun, is no longer acceptable. If you taught kids some restraint, i.e. they don't shoot up the rest of the school, worthless thug children would not even drain tax-funded prison dollars as future thug adults.
