I think about this sometimes. Obama was almost supernaturally calm, was very moderate ideologically, and ran perhaps the least corrupt administration in American history. None of this stopped Republicans from whipping themselves up into a frenzy, convincing themselves he was a traitorous foreign Muslim, that his administration was the most corrupt in history, that he was secretly plotting to take over the country, etc. They went absolutely bonkers about the least offensive Democrat they are likely to see in office.
God help us if an actual left wing Democrat gets into office. They will go nuts. All of their attempts to push this 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' stuff is 100% projection on their part. They think everyone else is as nuts as they are.
Sorry, but that's a load of parp. Obama's war crimes make Bush green with envy. The only one close to a moderate in the entire political spectrum, is Bernie Sanders. And the only leftie is Jill Stein.
Now, don't get me wrong. Republicans have many worse presidents than Obama. But Obama is no FDR, and FDR had plenty of horrors committed by his administration, like the residential school system that sexually enslaved Native American children (which ran between the 1850s-1990s). Obama is corrupt; ask any Afghan, Iraqi, Syrian, Libyan, and Palestinian who had to pick up the shredded limbs of their loved ones in order to give them a burial.
But in terms of what Republicans get outraged over, you're right. It's a black man with power. Repubs long for the days of the founding fathers, where if you're not an Anglo Saxon, you're not welcome nor are you a person.
