Obama's Environmental Hypocrisy?

I found this rather interesting...

From the NYT:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01...29whitehouse.html?_r=1

The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.

"He's from Hawaii, O.K.?" said Mr. Obama's senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. "He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there."

Now wait, is this the same Obama who said back in May:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say "OK"... That's not leadership. That's not going to happen."

Could this be the same Obama who is looking to sign a stimulus bill that would spend billions of dollars installing millions of "smart meters" that would enable your power company to prevent you from being as toasty warm as he is?

Anyone else find this hypocritical and elitist?

I think we should make a drinking game out of this. Any time the word "elitist" or "elite" are uttered in an Obama thread you drink. See you guys in hospital.

One can't rightly say one way or the other without first reading the bill you allude to.

Would you please you quote the portion of whatever bill you are claiming is evidence of hypocrisy and elitistism?

I think Obama is rapidly falling into the "say (or lie) one thing and do another" category.

At least with GWB, what you saw was (unfortunately) what you got.

He should instruct his people to watch what they say, it seems the petty squad is out to jump on any little insignificant thing to chastise him.

Hey geniuses, he was talking about a public policy decision for all of America, not what the thermostat in the White House should read.

Want more, google it yourself.

if this non-story counts towards this quote for you "I think Obama is rapidly falling into the "say (or lie) one thing and do another" category." - then you are an idiot - plain and simple. A petty, simple, idiot.

I heard yesterday when he wiped his ass after a particularly long shat he used 8 squares of TP instead of the customary six - what a damn hypocrite he is.

Do as I say, not as I do, eh?

How hot was the temp? Maybe it was 71 degrees. That's not 72.

Right, because what's good for the goose is not good for the gander.

What was the Thermostat set at? Does he have it at 72 at all times?

We cannot......keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times

No, not at all. It would only be hypocritical if he wanted to FORCE people to keep their homes at 72 degrees.

Do government have the "right" to tell us how we can set our thermost in our own private home? If people can afford it, let them set it at w/e why want.

ANd again, what was the actual temp and does he have it at 72 at all times. If he doesn't then there is absolutely no hypocrisy.

The number of sweat glands you develop is determined in childhood by the climate you live in. People like Obama and me, who were born in Paradise, can sweat a lot more than northern cold weather folk, which is great when it's hot, but not so hot, so to speak, when it's cold.

As a fact based President, he will have to alter his advise to that those who sweat a lot can raise the temp a bit over those built to live in the cold. Then he won't sound like such a hypocrite.

Also, as a citizen of this great land which is now having to deal with so many problems caused by our previous brain dead leader, I have to confess that if he likes it hot, than hot it should be. I don't want him worrying about his toe turning blue when I want him fixing unemployment. I know it's selfish of me to want my Pres to be comfortable while he works while others shiver in the cold but I'm just the kind of asshole that doesn't give a shit. And the sooner and more cogently he deals with the mess, the sooner everybody will be warm.

i agree. he shouldnt have to worry about the temp. then again if he is not going to do it himself he needs to STFU about what other people have it at.

How do you know he doesn't do it himself? He didn't say not to have it at 72 degrees, he said not to have it at 72 degrees at all times.

Which would be different than the past eight years how exactly?
