The right's "outrage" over this sentiment as "racist" is as phony as the same people's complaints that Sarah Palin was the victim of "sexism." Grow a pair, ya whiners. Well it's true there is a double standard. Most Blacks either have been discriminated or know someone personally whose been discriminated by Whites where as the vast majority of whites have never been discriminated by blacks, at least to the point where they were made to feel less equal.
Now that's the real Double Standard and I believe that's why only those looking for a bone to pick are upset with what the Reverend said.
What I can't understand is the willful blindness to circumstance and connotation. A Jewish person can make deprecating comments about Jews that won't draw any alarm, but if a Neo-Nazi made the same comments it would. What amazes me is that conservatives can call liberals "hypersensitive" and then go on to complain about something like this without realizing the hypocrisy.
Of all the things to critique Obama for (and there are always some legitimate critiques for any politician), this doesn't even register on the radar scale. I disagree with Obama on plenty of issues, but to call out something like this as "racism" is ridiculous.
Of course, if the traditional conservatives want to make fools out of themselves like this, it's fine with me. It just means more momentum will be gathered by the libertarian wing and the long-overdue restructuring of the Republican Party will happen sooner.

What it is, is the reactions of a generation of Republicans raised on Limbaugh/Counter/Hannity/Malkin faux outrage and hypersensitivity to views that fall outside their own perspectives. Apparently it's not "racist" to complain that white males are negatively affected by affirmative action, but it IS "racist" to point out that people of color face challenges different from those faced by white people. Great . . .
Actually I think one of Obama's most positive qualities is his willingness to engage in discussions of race in a non-accusatory way that doesn't involve a hair-trigger sensitivity to perceived "racism." A good example is the way he not only defended Joe Biden after Biden's inadvertently stupid comments about Obama being "clean," and indeed picking him as his running mate. If Biden had said something similar about Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson they'd have called for his head. Obama really has the potential to advance true equality among races in a way nobody since Reverend King has IMO.

Obama also has engaged in harsh criticism of the Black segment of society when it's been warranted. Take for example his scathing criticism of Black Fathers who don't support their children. That's the even that caused the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson to utter he'd cut off Obama's balls.

Strange... that's exactly the way I feel about the US National Anthem. I mean, come on, it's a poem about the War of 1812, how much relevance does that have today?
