The left with a smirk, the right with foamy stuff coming out of their mouths, but still, even the left isn't talking about how richly deserved this is. Now I'm sure you can find some putz on kos who will defend this to the death, but the overwhelming reaction is "huh?"

You just don't get it.

Under Bush nations were freakin terrified. They were increasing their defense budgets.

Some of the things that are just coming to be accepted in the US were common knowledge around the world.

For example, the billions of dollars we were supposedly sending Pakistan to fight al-qaeda was being used to arm Pakistan against India. And in response India got nervouse and made huge purchases of American weapons.
These were the kind of policies that Obama changed on day one.

So to say he did nothing is wrong.

Reagan was one of the worst presidents this country endured, and the post-presidency image restoration that the neo cons have achieved is nothing short of a miracle.

Obama's a great man, and I actually think he's done a pretty good job as president, but from understanding the Nobel gets awarded AFTER a lifetime of accomplishments, not before you've even really gotten started.

Thanks Zin and Mosh, I've been looking around some more and realize most people are having the same reaction I am, which is good. When I first heard about it I was mostly seeing articles like this

trying to bend the laws of physics to make it make sense, and then a few articles where it just seemed the writer was trying to say he doesn't deserve it, but treading so carefully they couldn't come right out and say it. It's good to see some people are ripping the Committee for this regardless of the recipients skin color or media relationship.

 
It looks like he won more on potential rather than hard accomplishments. Then again, I don't really agree with the NPP, especially after Gore. They could have at least waited a year or two, until after he got some more experience under his belt.

I would have rather seen someone like Greg Mortenson win instead.
