Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Congrats. That said, it was a slow year and following the dismal Bush performance probably pushed him over the top.
 
That's actually pretty cool, but now we'll have to hear about it for a week while the pundits discuss the possible political ramifications about it.
 
It's Bush's fault actually... he fucked up US International Relationship so much, Obama looks great.
Not saying Obama is not doing a good job, I am just not sure it's Peace Prize calibre, yet.

A better conspiracy would be Sweden hitting back at USA for killing SAAB. Give Obama the Peace Prize and it will surely cause fire storms in USA.
 
I like Obama and all, but all he did was get us to parity after Bush fucked everything up. Not really all that special when you think about it. But congrats, still, to him.

yeah, i dont think hes been a *bad* president so far, but he isnt a great one and certainly hasnt done enough to deserve this.
 
Guys...

The deadline for nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize was Feb. 1st.

He became President on Jan 20th.

He was President for 10 days before his nomination. He accomplished nothing then. And he has barely accomplished anything since then.

I'm sorry, but he did not deserve it. Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai should have received the prize.
 
Without getting all political in OT, this is absolute BS by any standard.

There are individuals who work diligently at resolving issues in and between nations for DECADES and Obama gets the prize in less than a few months? Yeah, that's ridiculous.

He basically got it for not being President Bush. I guess it speaks volumes to how hated around the world Bush was and diminishes the luster of the award as a whole.

I should get a prize for not being a dictator. Because I could seriously be a good dictator, but I've chosen not to. Mmm...10 million kronor...
 
How does he win a peace prize? He hasn't done anything of note in foreign policy yet, except for drag his feat on any meaningful Afgan war policy and give Iran time to complete their nuclear weapons program. This is a lot like giving Neville Chamberlain a Nobel Peace Prize in 1939 for avoiding war with the Nazis.
 
The many has been a senator (with no special accomplishments to his name) for 4 years and a president for 1 year and yet he is somehow worthy of this honour? That's a real slap in the face to all the people around the world who have spent their whole lives fighting tyranny. Nothing against Obama, but he hasn't done ANYTHING to further the cause of peace in this world that I can think of. Maybe one day he will be a great president who deserves this, but giving it to him after 1 year in office is silly.
 
Gandhi was never awarded the peace prize, i guess his presidential campaign was marred by violence, or something
