I think I am well compensated for an engineer. That still means middle class here in CA, where houses are around $800k and up.
You may be median income in the area you live in, but you are not middle class. You are kidding yourself.

When has educated people leaving been good for any country?I don't think I have heard more bullshit in a while.
Yeah, the simple answer is don't hire them and fine the hell out of businesses that do.It's the employers who are pocketing the difference. Socialize costs, privatize profits. Find a way to push the societal costs of illegal immigration back on the employers of illegal immigrants and the problem will be greatly diminished.
That's scary. Many sewing factories/employees lost their ass to nafta and then globalization. Do we even make anything here anymore?I don't think it would. Like I said, if someone is talented, they can take my job from their home country.

You are specialized per your posts. Are you smarter than 1.5M Indians? They could take your American job for pennies. I hope not for you and yours.
Anyone else on 386?
So I can get some insight from the rest of the forum...
I hope you make bank but that's just you. What about the rest of my post?My company has offices and I am sure plenty of smart employees in India. They are paid not pennies, but a lot less than me, but I am still employed, and they consider it worthwhile to offer me raises every year in order to retain my services. I make it a point to interview and find out my market price once in a while, and got similar offers from other companies, so I have reasons to believe it's not a fluke.
In tech, employees are expensive, but not as expensive as losing.
Maybe. But it's middle class lifestyle for what I earn in my area. $800k buys a 1500 sf 3br house in so-so gentrifying mixed white/blue-collar middle-class area around here. Nicer areas, we are talking $1M+ for same house. A larger house that would be considered upper middle class anywhere in the country would be $2M around here.
I'm Bob. Just fat, dumb and happy Bob.Are you a libertarian?

So in 20 years you can sell your house for over a mill and have probably more than that in savings/retirement. A few mill will get you a very comfortable lifestyle in almost any part of the country. Still think you are middle class? Middle class around here and probably in most parts of the country means in 30 years after you pay off the mortgage hopefully you will have enough of a pension/401k/SS to pay property taxes and have enough to live on.

Thoughts on the post?
For the reasons I outlined in an above post the e-verify isn't a magic bullet.
We've got sufficient laws. We don't have enforcement, likely due to inadequate will and/or resources.
I've had clients where ICE (or whomever, whatever they're called these days) showed up to do a check. They set up tables and work with laptops checking each employee's ID and SS# etc. If they're illegal, they're arrested. But then what happens? They're released and told to come back later. It doesn't happen.
In any case, the employer is fined.
We're just not doing enough of that and passing yet another law making it a crime etc to hire illegal workers isn't going to do squat.
Law - enforcement = nothing.

I've already explained to you how the bill adds enforcement, if you still think that's not enough then I look forward to your proposal or the republicans in the house to come up with something. What's that? You don't have a plan and republicans don't either? Well I guess that makes you one of those all it nothing types. Let me know when you come back to reality.
Newsflash - congress makes the law - not BHO telling a dept to change how to do things.
Well your Congress buds sat on their asses for all these years so you essentially gave up that ability to make laws. Get over it cupcakes.
Wow. Insightful, inspirational and informative all in just 6 words. You are a man among men.Strange. You don't seem very happy.
That would be my guess.I was watching the morning news and they interviewing people concerning the President's executive action on immigation, several said the President didn't go far enough and one AA preacher was upset that this will make the things worse for minorities due to more people vying for any available jobs.
They'd be legal. It needs work, IMO. It just does't feel sufficiently logically connected to me.
You are talking about illegal minimum wage workers getting EITC and about the middle class being squeezed.
Then it turns out that you mean it's not those minimum wage workers who will be squeezing middle class, but recent college grads legally here on OPT.
It's not good flow to the post.
