It sure would be nice if the administration took a few moments away from posting cool looking "fact sheets" on the President's action today to maybe post the text of the executive order.

Help me out.

If we legalize these millions, then is the only upside more D voters?

They are low wage/skilled so they will take the "just over" minimum wage jobs from Americans and get paid the minimum.

They will suck more $$ in resources than they will ever pay in taxes/ss. Especially if they get the EITC.

The income gap that we hear so much about will increase significantly.

The middle class will be squeezed like a melon.

I'm not seeing an upside. And while the "big companies want cheap labor" argument might be true, they should be fined to the hilt if they knowingly hire illegals...at a minimum. I'd rather their assets be seized.

So what's the upside for America?

Why would middle class get squeezed if illegals are taking min wage jobs?

Read the entire post, not just the line you think you can get a zinger out of.

OK, which part of it shows that middle class will get squeezed. I am middle class, and I think cheaper labor at the low end benefits me. Makes goods and services I buy cheaper.

So these people are going to take middle class jobs?

Then why:

Why are you changing the goal posts.

The illegals here will destroy lower wage jobs because we will now have millions of no skill legal workers.

Obamas expansion of the visa programs will destroy middle class jobs by importing higher skill workers willing to work at a fraction of current salaries.

Is this really that hard to understand.

As a side note, now that the illegals are going to get SS numbers, and pay taxes, how long will it be before the democrats cry that's not far, and 'no taxation without representation'?

The $15/hr manufacturing job is now housed by a $7.35/hr employee because the employer is a POS. Nothing to prevent it.

Better yet, the $45/hr auto jobs....might be a silver lining. :\

Thanks for the reply. What about other points?

I don't see a problem with OPT expansion. Wouldn't we want to keep top US educated talent in the US? You know these companies are not bound to the US, they can follow the talent and outsource these jobs abroad. Wouldn't you rather these people stay in the US and pay taxes here? I am a techie, and I am not threatened by it. I know some are, but I don't think there is anything to be done for them anyways, the world is changing. Knowledge workers can work anywhere.

You need to decide if you are going to bash them for not paying taxes or for paying taxes.

Did I miss this in the speech?
According to the "fact sheet" on the Whitehouse website, the President is proposing to streamline processing of green cards for high skill workers. The fact sheet uses the term "expanding work authorization for..." . Again, without the text of the executive order it is difficult to see what he is actually doing.

Who do you think pays for those resources? And not all those granted amnesty will be working for minimum wage. I am sure some of them might very well be competing for the work you do. Are you ready to give your job up for the greater good of the illegals?

Not from your posts about making bank because of your mad skills.

Edit: $500M in Cali could be middle class.

I am used to it, doesn't scare me at all, any more than competing with a fellow American would.
Someone in my field competes with me for the work I do, regardless of where they are in the world. That's the nature of tech work nowadays. Companies have offices around the world to be close to the talent.

I'm bashing them for the overall gross suck on the system.

It's the employers who are pocketing the difference. Socialize costs, privatize profits. Find a way to push the societal costs of illegal immigration back on the employers of illegal immigrants and the problem will be greatly diminished.

Your opinion would change if you were on the losing end of that competition.

He's another one of those?
Many posters for the Ds have reasonable/valid points. The Rs are less than saints, obviously.

I'm looking for anyone that can justify post 386. The cherry picking has already been taken care of and failed.

Give me a reason to support legalizing illegals.

I think I am well compensated for an engineer. That still means middle class here in CA, where houses are around $800k and up.
