This is the racist one right? :disgust:

Indeed, the white racist granny of the first black president. What a mess

It mist have really hurt her... you bring up a boy like a mother and then he turns around and declares that he is "black" just for his political gains... I feel sorry for her

Dont... Its not needed, or requested. She is incredibly proud of her grandson, and gave up alot to raise him right. She is overwhelmingly proud as any grandma would be, more so becasue she is kind of mom-ish.

The question of race only came up in your tiny little mind.

Guess who needs to wake up broaden his/her outlook !? this whole election is based on race. Do you seriously believe a white guy could have come this far?

yeah..they've only been doing it for over 100 years.

How about we just wish her well and a speedy recovery. I am no fan of Obama, but wish him the best.

How long until McCain suspends his campaign to fly to Hawaii to save Grandma Obama? HE GETS THINGS DONE.

I am an Obama fan and wish his grandmother all the best. And I have been doing quite a bit of reading up about her and her husband. She is truly a remarkable woman, a pillar of strength, and smart enough to rise up to be a bank VP. She now suffers from Osteoporosis pretty bad. It will probably come as hard blow for Barack Obama to see what used to be a tower of strength, so reduced. But that is family and many of us face that same blow. Now all that remains of the Dunhill side of the family is Mrs Dunhill, Barack Obama, his children, his half sister, and her daughter. Obama's mother Ann was also a remarkable woman and had a PHd until
cancer got her at a young age.

Remarkably, John McCain's mother is still alive and still active. Family is family, I wish them all well.

I think if Obama were white and named something like "John Smith," he'd be looking at a landslide victory on November 4th. It wouldn't be nearly as close as this.

The fact that you have a Muslim name boosts your credibility here, I think.

Yeah, you're right. When Mrs. Joe Biden's mother died two weeks ago, it was a ploy for votes.

Really??? You are implying this is a political stunt? Your intellectual growth is the only thing stunted around here, you and butterbean make a perfect pair.
I hope she recovers, and I am sure most sane people do the same, forget partisan rhetoric.

From what I read she broke her hip and hated being in the hospital so they sent her home, which to me sounds like she is on her death bed. If you have a chance they keep you in the hospital.

Did I say I hope she dies? Did I say I hope she's gravely ill? Did I say I'm glad if either of those comes true?

Answer: No.

But the fact is that this is the biggest political race in the world, and it's not a slam dunk win for Obama. As such, and due to the huge consequences of losing for either party, I don't take anything at face value - from either side.

I'd say stop slurping anything Obama and get into reality here, but, for many on here, that would necessitate actually being in reality, instead of what is distortedly viewed as such.

There's how you want it to be, and how it is.

The race for POTUS and how that is in reality conducted is what is...how you want it to be is fantasyland.

And if he didn't go, Republicans would've been screaming about how insensitive he is...Face it, you don't like the guy so no matter what he does you'll always see it in a negative light.

Just to clarify the title, Obama is not suspending his campaign. He is only cancelling his own appearances. All the advertisements and campaign surrogates will be out in full force, and Ms. Obama will conduct some campaign rallies.

He is not trying to pull a "I'm John McCain and I'll save the economy" kind of stunt.

You are wrong: I'm still undecided on I'm voting Obama or McCain. It doeesn't really matter except for my own personal vote, as I live in Chicagoland...it's going to go Obama here no matter what.

Just because I may still vote for Obama doesn't mean I don't see this for what it could be, and that's some last minute sympathy points right before the election. The difference here is I keep an open mind, where as the Obama slurpers feel sympathetic pain greater than if it were their own grandma.

I'd say, Keep it real, but, this is P&N....an impossibility....

You really need to get out and start talking to a more variety of people. You sound like some kind of politically active child locked in a basement with only the internet to learn from when it comes to this election. This election is not about race. This election is far more about people's lack of confidence in the government and fear of both the wrong kind of change as well as the things remaining just as bad as they are now.

Fear and lack of confidence should not be driving people's votes this November but they are anyways.

Boy, reading through this thread it appears there are a fair number of responders here who have not lost a parental figure yet.

What goes around, comes around, remember your tactless response when you are in that situation.

PS-as far as Obama's grandmother being racist, the people who claim that either didn't see Obama's speech or deliberately chose not to understand it. My late mother was about Obama's grandmother's age and was also a product of the rural midwest. She on occassion exhibited the same behavior Obama talked about in his grandmother. It's a generational and cultural thing, mostly a fear of the unknown, not racism.

And I agree with the sentiments of a few others: Going on the attack while Obama has publicly stated that he's visiting an ailing grandmother wouldn't be prudent.

Not sure if you noticed, but it's treated completely differently when a candidate directly responds to attacks versus when surrogates do. Surrogate quotes are mentioned but for the most part disregarded - it is the words of the candidate that news agencies go with.

And you bet Obama responds to every major allegation of the McCain campaign. Kerry didn't in 04 and it cost him the election.

Well one of Obama's rally's was to have been in Des Moines iOwa, that he canceled.
The weather turned crappie. Real crappie. And is forecasted crappie for the remainder of the week.
So if Obama needed to cancel, he chose to at the best time.
This is just another example, Obama has very sound judgment.
He needed to be with family, and chose the exact right time to put things on hold
to take care of personal matters. WOW... what a guy!!!
