Wonderful. We have gone from "hey, he's going to be a great President" all the way to, "well, he's still better than McCain."

Now you got it!

Hey as long as he isn't as stupid and careless as George Bush we will be much better off.

Here come the apologists.

I mean, Mccain? Really... Havent we all learned our lesson by now?

How was it GW put it, "you can fool me once, you can fool...
ya cant get fooled again".

I would much rather have Bush as my president than Obama. I would rather have McCain as my president than Obama. You know what you get with Bush and McCain on the war. They haven't wavered much on their stances. Obama will change his positions whenever the wind blows a different direction.

Bush and McCain have convictions, whether you agree with them or not does not matter, they prove they have character by standing by something that isn't politically expedient. Obama stands by whatever will get him into the next highest office.

The far left gave BO the nomination. He needed them to get where he is now so he said whatever they wanted to hear. He knows that, since it's very difficult to make a solid supporter change their mind, the majority of the far left can be taken for granted. To win the general he needs the Clinton supporters, centrists, and independents. Now, he'll say whatever these people want to hear and assume that his far left base may grumble a bit but they'll stay with him, no matter what.

The thing that concerns me the most is that I don't know which Obama is the real Obama. When he stops flipping and flopping, where will he be? Is he the far left candidate of the primary, the centrist candidate of the general, or something all together different?

On the bright side... until the convention, he's still just the presumptive nominee. He could still be CHANGED. ;)

i don't remember him saying that.

He introduced a bill in the Senate with that language in January 2007.

The Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007. Text

I'm not sure if you guys have noticed this over the years, but candidates always move to the left or right during primaries and towards the center in general elections. This happens literally 100% of the time. I'm not sure why people are so surprised.

I guess the question becomes which Obama are we going to get if he becomes President.

The left leaning guy running for the Democrat nomination.?
Or the middle of the road guy running as the nominee?

I've been expecting the shift to center since he became the presumptive nominee. As you said, the candidates always shift to center in the general. With most candidates we have a pretty good idea of where they are actually going to be when it's all over. With Backtrack Obama I really have no idea where he'll be in the end.

I'd guess that he'll shift way back to the left again and McCain will end up much closer to center but, who knows?

Seeing the people that work for him, I would say the latter. BTW, candidates always do this. Look at McCain in the primaries. Hell, look at all the Republicans, except Ron Paul, in the primaries. Remember how gung-ho they were?

really, it's just funny that the Obamites trashed Hillary for the same kind of centrist appeasement that they're giving Obama a pass on now.

Actually, what's funny is that you guys keep claiming that Obama has appeased on Iraq when his position actually hasn't changed.
What's even funnier is that we've had an Obama flip-flopped on Iraq! thread nearly every week for months now and no one ever seems to notice.

What's happening here is where people get too personal about their politics. People on the internet seem to think that they are their candidates, and the people they are arguing with are the other candidate(s). Through this, positions are assigned to the candidates that have little bearing in reality, and frequently (usually) little resemblance to the candidates' real life positions. Such is the case here.

Change is what you wanted and change is what you get. Not the change that you were looking for but who cares? You still got your beloved CHANGE! Don't worry there's more to come. After universal health care you will have nothing but CHANGE in your pocket!

His message is clear: "Change".... as in "I'll change my stance on anything anytime depending on what the public wants to hear".
