Obama opens up NSA data to other agencies

People are still duped by Obama. They believe whatever politicians tell them.

They still worship at the fount of the fake partisan divide that has been used, extremely successfully, to keep us out of the political process.

They take, at face value, the claims the parties and politicians make.

And those are people here.

Once the dust settles I think the Obama administration will be remembered for its terrible track record on civil liberties. This parting shot is really a doozy with Drumpf set to take office. Legal framework for killing US citizens without trial and allowing every agency access to NSA spying data gathered on US citizens. What could go wrong with a mad man like Drumpf at the controls?

Yeh, civil liberties like gay marriage, cannabis legalization, voting rights & people being locked up w/o charge or bail, not to mention investigating the Chicago PD.

Yeah, remember all those CPD cops who faced charges for torture and constitutional violations? The trials went on for months. What else do you want?

People need to stop obsessing about these supposed "rights" and "liberties" they claim they had. Pick up that can and shut up, citizens.

Is kinda sad Trump has miffed off every intelligence agency out there before he has taken office, isn't it.

He has always known more than they do, of course, his brain is YUGGGE. He doesn't need them, in his opinion, unless that has changed again.

On BBC one of his "surrogates" is talking about replacing 4,000 "political appointees" at the CIA. I think Trump is planning a deep purge of the CIA and DIA, he's doing it Flynn Fact Style.

Yeah like drone strikes on US citizens without trial. And spying on US citizens. And now apparently allowing all agencies access to that spying data. But hey we have gay marriage decided by the supreme court and states legalizing cannabais. Both out of the hands of Obama.

While he was engaged in armed insurrection in a country whose govt we supported. He got the same consideration as American citizens who fought for the Wehrmacht.
The Obama DoJ refused to defend DOMA before the SCOTUS. Holder wrote-

After careful consideration, including a review of my recommendation, the President has concluded that given a number of factors, including a documented history of discrimination, classifications based on sexual orientation should be subject to a more heightened standard of scrutiny. The President has also concluded that Section 3 of DOMA, as applied to legally married same-sex couples, fails to meet that standard and is therefore unconstitutional. Given that conclusion, the President has instructed the Department not to defend the statute in such cases.

Presented with a clear choice & a historic opportunity by CO & WA the Obama admin stepped out of the way of responsible cannabis legalization. They advanced that righteous cause by at least a decade in doing so. President Romney sure as Hell wouldn't have done it, nor likely McCain, either.

They've actively pursued police corruption across the country & actively held the line wrt voting rights.

Not to mention that this whole Big Brother surveillance schtick is more that a teensy bit overblown. This isn't N Korea, nor will it ever be.

Hmm, time to switch all my PCs to Kali Linux, all my browsing to Tor/Onion, subscribe to some VPN service, and get rid of smartphones (burner grandpa flip phones with blocked GPS FTW!)

Can anyone answer me this question: Is it legal for Trump to replace all of the middle and upper management and executive positions at the CIA?

If Trump ignores all political norms and just starts acting as an autocrat, are there any legal protections to stop him from doing this? I assume he can, because Reagan fired all the ATCs without any problems when they weren't "doing their jobs". There are rumors that much of the intelligence community is considering resigning in protest to his election.... I really wonder if we will see Erdogan-esque purges of much of the intelligence community.

I think the CIA serves a few purposes, but the FBI is a patently corrupt and incompetent organization... I would not at all oppose Trump closing both these agencies. The NSA is probably the most valuable of the intelligence agencies anyway.

Because... what, exactly?

I do like the way they handled the Malheur incident. Imagine pulling that shit on Dick Nixon & J Edgar Hoover. They'd all be dead, martyrs to the cause.

Let's see...

The FBI has, in the Obama tenure, proceeded to endorse the complete ban on encryption. Such a ban or the endorsement of "backdoors" would jeopardize every single american's communications and safety. They've had their own agents threaten their Director, the infamous James Comey, to leak information about investigations. They've also had numerous other such leaks, almost every single one to the benefit of Donald Trump's presidential campaign. They've fought a public battle with the most profitable and arguably most innovative company in the world (Apple), for no reason than to project their own authoritarian surveillance regime... all the while they've claimed this is being done on behalf of the citizens. They've been reported by their own agents as being "Trumpland", and those same agents have initiated investigations on behalf of allegations in conservative books (like O'Reilly's books). They've done almost nothing to stop terrorism besides "catching" some mentally disabled somalians in michigan, whom were provided weapons by the FBI themselves. They are literally the stupidest, most anti-american institution in this country. And BTW they've always been that way. Since F'ing Hoover.

Edit: Oh yeah, I almost forgot: James Comey influenced an election and likely swayed those few states by the hundred thousand or so votes they needed to win. He may have single-handedly given America to Trump. Thanks FBI!

I actually have to agree with much of that, sad to say, even if you're taking both sides on encryption. The FBI can't be said to have done nothing wrt Terrorism in that respect. The fact that we haven't had an organized terrorist attack since 9/11 speaks to their competence, as well.

I think an argument could be made that the atlantic ocean is the greatest anti-terrorism "force" the US has available. Really we should give that ocean a medal, because it's saves so many American lives. Since the 1770s it has been saving our asses from all sorts of things.
That is one reason I said Legally Obtained.
What's legally obtained? Whatever the government says it is. This administration has won on pushing back privacy rights further than the last. Obama took Bush and built on his platform, then lied at every turn regarding it.

It is illegal for information obtained to be used domestically concerning non-terrorist crimes. Obama said no American citizen has been harmed because of that. That's bullshit. He knows it has, but technically that's correct.

How can it be a lie and truth? Polispeak. The information cannot be used in court but the information was shared with domestic law enforcement and by a process of "connect the dots" something called "parallel construction" easily creates a new case because all the details are known. One merely has to find ways to independently verify what one knows already.

Yep it's legal, and that's what is the matter here. All safeguards are removed because there is no separation and cases can be manufactured from information no one can directly use in court.

This is as big a threat as any we've seen, perhaps more.

Meh. All I'm getting is a lot of paranoid anti-gubmint raving, conspiracy theory & Obama blaming.

You could read the original document if you really want to form your own judgement-

https://icontherecord.tumblr.com/post/155766682978/fact-sheet-on-eo-12333-raw-sigint-availability

Or you could go with a sensationalized short form version in the Media, like from the Intercept.

What happens with this change is that other intelligence agencies can get the long form, the raw data & reach their own conclusions instead of it being interpreted by the NSA before they get it. There is a rather elaborate set of rules for that to be done.

But, whoop-ti-freaking-do anyway.

Well this article certainly validates my thinking pre-election that voting for either (R) or (D) this go-around would be bad for civil liberties and codify the Orwellian thought police state. Perhaps next go around people will free themselves from the chains of "greater evil" rationalizations and realize that pulling the lever for Libertarian (or Green, or whoever promises to end this NSA police state cr@p) IS NOT A WASTED VOTE.

While he was engaged in armed insurrection in a country whose govt we supported. He got the same consideration as American citizens who fought for the Wehrmacht.

He was not in the middle of a battle. A major distinction. And those who fought or worked for the Axis were captured. And shockingly given a trial. What a concept!

Somebody who is an immediate threat doesnt take months of planning to kill. The sad part about this is your inability to understand the ramifications of this legal framework. All it takes is an asshole to use it on a more frequent basis.

Not to mention that this whole Big Brother surveillance schtick is more that a teensy bit overblown. This isn't N Korea, nor will it ever be.

It never is a North Korea until it is a North Korea. Can't wait to watch you melt down as Drumpf abuses the shit put in play by Obama.

Yeh, providing they surrendered & didn't die in battle or during an air raid.

Al-Awlaki was an ongoing threat holding a leadership role.

Don't get hysterical. You love Donald anyway. It's perfectly obvious that he'll do no wrong, isn't it?

Always hilarious when people figure out for the 100th time that Obama's a centrist. Even funnier when conservatives rant about him being too much like themselves, presumably to maintain exclusivity over this shit.
