Once the dust settles I think the Obama administration will be remembered for its terrible track record on civil liberties. This parting shot is really a doozy with Drumpf set to take office. Legal framework for killing US citizens without trial and allowing every agency access to NSA spying data gathered on US citizens. What could go wrong with a mad man like Drumpf at the controls?
Is kinda sad Trump has miffed off every intelligence agency out there before he has taken office, isn't it.
He has always known more than they do, of course, his brain is YUGGGE. He doesn't need them, in his opinion, unless that has changed again.
Yeh, civil liberties like gay marriage, cannabis legalization, voting rights & people being locked up w/o charge or bail, not to mention investigating the Chicago PD.
Yeah like drone strikes on US citizens without trial.
And spying on US citizens. And now apparently allowing all agencies access to that spying data. But hey we have gay marriage decided by the supreme court and states legalizing cannabais. Both out of the hands of Obama.
After careful consideration, including a review of my recommendation, the President has concluded that given a number of factors, including a documented history of discrimination, classifications based on sexual orientation should be subject to a more heightened standard of scrutiny. The President has also concluded that Section 3 of DOMA, as applied to legally married same-sex couples, fails to meet that standard and is therefore unconstitutional. Given that conclusion, the President has instructed the Department not to defend the statute in such cases.
the FBI is a patently corrupt and incompetent organization...
Because... what, exactly?
I do like the way they handled the Malheur incident. Imagine pulling that shit on Dick Nixon & J Edgar Hoover. They'd all be dead, martyrs to the cause.
Let's see...
The FBI has, in the Obama tenure, proceeded to endorse the complete ban on encryption. Such a ban or the endorsement of "backdoors" would jeopardize every single american's communications and safety. They've had their own agents threaten their Director, the infamous James Comey, to leak information about investigations. They've also had numerous other such leaks, almost every single one to the benefit of Donald Trump's presidential campaign. They've fought a public battle with the most profitable and arguably most innovative company in the world (Apple), for no reason than to project their own authoritarian surveillance regime... all the while they've claimed this is being done on behalf of the citizens. They've been reported by their own agents as being "Trumpland", and those same agents have initiated investigations on behalf of allegations in conservative books (like O'Reilly's books). They've done almost nothing to stop terrorism besides "catching" some mentally disabled somalians in michigan, whom were provided weapons by the FBI themselves. They are literally the stupidest, most anti-american institution in this country. And BTW they've always been that way. Since F'ing Hoover.
Edit: Oh yeah, I almost forgot: James Comey influenced an election and likely swayed those few states by the hundred thousand or so votes they needed to win. He may have single-handedly given America to Trump. Thanks FBI!
I actually think US Intelligence Agencies should share legally obtained data with the other US Intelligence Agencies.
I find the entire elimination of privacy to be of questionable legality. No matter who stands for such violation.
I actually have to agree with much of that, sad to say, even if you're taking both sides on encryption. The FBI can't be said to have done nothing wrt Terrorism in that respect. The fact that we haven't had an organized terrorist attack since 9/11 speaks to their competence, as well.
That is one reason I said Legally Obtained.
What's legally obtained? Whatever the government says it is. This administration has won on pushing back privacy rights further than the last. Obama took Bush and built on his platform, then lied at every turn regarding it.
It is illegal for information obtained to be used domestically concerning non-terrorist crimes. Obama said no American citizen has been harmed because of that. That's bullshit. He knows it has, but technically that's correct.
How can it be a lie and truth? Polispeak. The information cannot be used in court but the information was shared with domestic law enforcement and by a process of "connect the dots" something called "parallel construction" easily creates a new case because all the details are known. One merely has to find ways to independently verify what one knows already.
Yep it's legal, and that's what is the matter here. All safeguards are removed because there is no separation and cases can be manufactured from information no one can directly use in court.
This is as big a threat as any we've seen, perhaps more.
While he was engaged in armed insurrection in a country whose govt we supported. He got the same consideration as American citizens who fought for the Wehrmacht.
Not to mention that this whole Big Brother surveillance schtick is more that a teensy bit overblown. This isn't N Korea, nor will it ever be.
He was not in the middle of a battle. A major distinction. And those who fought or worked for the Axis were captured. And shockingly given a trial. What a concept!
Somebody who is an immediate threat doesnt take months of planning to kill. The sad part about this is your inability to understand the ramifications of this legal framework. All it takes is an asshole to use it on a more frequent basis.
It never is a North Korea until it is a North Korea. Can't wait to watch you melt down as Drumpf abuses the shit put in play by Obama.
