KABUL: Pakistani troops fired at NATO-led helicopters operating in eastern Afghanistan, the international force said, adding that there was no damage or casualties.
Amid mounting tensions between Islamabad and foreign forces in Afghanistan over a series of incursions, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) stressed that the helicopters had not crossed into Pakistani airspace.
'ISAF helicopters received small-arms fire from a Pakistan military checkpoint along the border near Tanai district, Khost, September 25 while conducting routine operations in Afghanistan,' it said in a statement.
'There are no reports of any damages to the helicopters or any casualties.'
The statement added: 'ISAF forces and the Pakistani military are working together to resolve the matter.'
The incident was 'an unfortunate misunderstanding,' a Pentagon spokesman said Thursday.
'It appears to be an unfortunate misunderstanding,' said Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman.
Pakistan Television quoted the army as saying it was looking into the NATO allegations. The Pakistani military could not immediately be reached.
Tensions across the rugged and porous border are high after a series of US missile strikes on al-Qaeda-linked militants and an incursion by US soldiers into Pakistani tribal areas adjoining Afghanistan.
Pakistan's army is also investigating the crash of a suspected unmanned US spy plane 24 hours earlier near the Afghan border. Residents said it was shot down by tribesmen, but the military said it malfunctioned.
NATO has nearly 50,000 troops working in Afghanistan to help stabilise the country and defeat an insurgency led by the Taliban.
At a meeting with American businessmen someone asked him how can we work together for economic benifit etc etc Gillani replied "I am from Multan and we have famous Mangoes".The whole hall was quiet for few minutes.

If Green Bean is the typical sentiment in Pakistan, then war needs to be declared and then waged.

You feel that way because the military sticks a danda up every beloved patriot citizen's a**e and boy, that sure must feel good. Good enough to forget about the s**thole that Pakistan has become because of their constant domestic invasions and their misadventures with India, Afghanistan and even Bangladesh.
You think sinking a destroyer is going to make a difference? You'd never touch a carrier with conventional weapons, and if you went unconventional, well....Originally posted by: The Green Bean

LOL - speaking of stupid. Speaking of supplies, how much effort do you think it would take for the US to blockade your ports? Cease any transport in from Afghanistan? And I'm sure if India chose sides...I hope you like Chinese food!Originally posted by: The Green Bean

Pakistan says they shot down a US drone
This should send a clear message that the Pakistanis are not all-talk. And this coming just one day after the Marriot bombing shows how serious they are. There was be anger against the Taliban and Alaqeeda and one might've suspected we would have welcomed US help.
What do you Americans think? What should your response be to this?
The world is lucky that stupid people like you have no real power. If that happens we will simply cut off all your supplies.
Then we would have to respond and do all in our power to break the blockade; even if that means sinking a few US ships - by missiles; or suicide bombs. And India has nothing to gain by blocking our routes. They just opened up a new route though Kashmir to boost trade. That; and we produce more than enough to feed ourselves. It's just that greedy suppliers hoard it to maximize their profits.
A blockade would also mean your bases in the region are fair game. And never underestimate your enemy. Most of the world-changing battles have been lost because of arrogance. You can't afford a war. Financially you are near bankruptcy. At home your war weariness is at a high. You hold no credibility as an international power and the world sees you as oppressors. You would have more to lose from a blockade than us. Let's see for how much longer the world takes to change its colors to a fast dwindling superpower.

At least you are finally acknowledged you are our enemy. And nice that you recognize suicide bombers also as your terrorist fanatical tactic.

The US holds militants that don't care about MAD either, but just like in Pakistan, those militants aren't running the country.Originally posted by: eleison

unstable country with nuclear bombs run by incompetents. also it holds militants that don't care about MAD and could lead the world into another war that could wipe out a good number of people.

How many wars has Pakistan started in its history (besides its war of independence)? How many wars has the US started?
I'm sure if the UK and USA shared a border in 1776, instead of having an ocean dividing them, they would have had a few border skirmishes after their war as well.Originally posted by: winnar111

So then you are going on the theory that Obama is going to stop the predator strikes? I would love to see what you have that would support that. Because I have proof that BHO is just as hawkish on AQ as everyone else outside of San Francisco.
Obama puts focus on al Qaeda after Pakistan bombing
By Aaron Blake

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Saturday?s bombing of an Islamabad hotel shows that the United States must redouble its efforts against al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist organizations, as both he and GOP nominee John McCain called for collaboration with the new Pakistani government.
?As the attack earlier this week on our embassy in Yemen shows, over seven years after 9/11, the terrorist threat knows no borders, and the terrorists threaten innocent civilians of all religions and regions,? Sen. Obama (Ill.) stated. ?Now is the time to refocus our efforts on defeating al Qaeda and securing the American people.?
