The bottom line is this:
If you're Republican, just let it go. You don't get to bitch and moan about how everyone's too sensitive and then get angry over something like this. If the PC stuff really annoys you, then don't make a case of this just because you think it might be expedient; if you do, you're a hypocrite.
If you're a Democrat, take a long, hard look at yourself and ask honestly if you would have been upset about this if Bush had done it. If the answer is truly "no", then I applaud your even-handedness. If the answer is "yes", meditate on why the double-standard is OK.

Personally, I think it was a bad choice of words for the president to make. Had President Bush said it, I'd feel the same.
