The whole program's intent was to drum up support for passing sweeping gun control laws or hopes of repealing the 2nd Amendment.
Agreed. And in spite of both Holder's and Obama's previous anti-Second Amendment activities, I really believed it was most likely something the BATFE cooked up on their own, merely a bolder form of the same type of covert programs at which they've been caught under several Presidents. I no longer believe that, obviously.

Obama has been careful to avoid any overtly anti-Second Amendment activities in his first term, but if an agency has gone rogue behind your back, running guns to drug cartels and having Americans and Mexicans murdered with those guns, obviously you don't attempt to defend the very elements that exceeded their mandate, got people murdered, and embarrassed you politically. This has to have been a coordinated effort from Obama from the start, and now he's trying to stall until after the election when he can once again safely ignore the law.

(Can you tell I'm really, really pissed?)

To be fair, it's hard to find something scandelous when all the guy has ever done is play hoops and golf.

So wait, is Obama destroying America with his socialism or slacking the whole time on the golf course?

Maybe you guys could put a few notes at the beginning of each thread to signify whether we're dealing with World Destroying Communist Obama, Just Like Bush Obama, or Do Nothing Golf and Basketball Obama. You switch between hilariously fake caricatures so quickly it's hard to keep track.

You are making a huge number of enormous assumptions based on almost no data.

"Information will not be withheld just because I say so; it will be withheld because a separate authority believes my request is well-grounded in the Constitution. Let me say it as simply as I can: transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency," Barack Obama

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/TransparencyandOpenGovernment

He also said http://dailycaller.com/2012/06/20/f...ed-trying-to-hide-behind-executive-privilege/
"OBAMA: “Well, you know, I think we’ll — we’ll determine over the next several weeks how this administration responds to the very appropriate call by Patrick Leahy, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, to have these individuals come in and testify. You know, there’s been a tendency on the part of this administration to — to try to hide behind executive privilege every time there’s something a little shaky that’s taking place. And I think, you know, the administration would be best served by coming clean on this. There doesn’t seem to be any national security issues involved with the U.S. attorney question. There doesn’t seem to be any justification for not offering up some clear, plausible rationale for why these — these U.S. attorneys were targeted when, by all assessments, they were doing an outstanding job. I think the American people deserve to know what was going on there.”"

There is something shaking and obama is hiding behind executive privilege.

I read that some in mexico sued the US for the death of their family members due to F&F. Anyone in the US ding the same?

So his boy got caught and now he is using his power to cover it up? Awesome.

The American people don't like dead Border Patrol agents, and American weapons in the hands of Mexican drug gangs, I don't see this boding well for his popularity. Funny how they leak a bunch of classified documents, and then in practically the same breath block these.

really? Not even the ones selling it to them or the manufacturers?

I would think not. Why would they? something like this would be a huge blow to legally owning guns. IF it hadn't come out that the government was behind it this would have been bad.

gun sellers and manufacturer don't' wan't something like this (wich is why many tried to stop the sales but were forced to). it is bad for business.

Well there would have been no reason for F&F to exist if it wasn't for your buddy Bush.

and again Obama admistaration continued it.

Personally i doubt either Bush or Obama had anything to do with it. i am sure they both have other things to put there time to.

That was a rhetorical question I asked. I'm from Texas and, near the border, the gun sellers don't ask many questions. THEY KNOW who they're selling these weapons to and don't care because it's primarily killing people in another country. Therefore, no blowback.

They're obviously doing it to protect the Bush Administration who started the program under the name "Wide Receiver" :colbert:

Stupid idea the fact that it was tried by the previous administration should've been enough of a clue not to do it again....

Snap! I guess some people won't vote for Obama in November now because of his loving support of the previous administration. :whiste:

BTW I love this picture.

Not any different than what Ford did for Nixon.

Ahhh, so because they did it, it's all good huh?

Only "rhetorical" to you because in your mind, as you post demonstrates, you think they wanted the weapons sold there, and don't care as long as they make money. You are wrong, as Waggy pointed out this isn't good for them, and anything that could slow domestic sales will shadow any profits they make by these illegal sales.

And you being from Texas apparently has helped, since the stores that sold the guns reported the sales, and tried to stop making them, and the ATF forced them to continue selling to people they knew shouldn't be allowed to buy.

Exactly. Gun shops and manufacturers do not need illegal straw purchases by Mexican drug gangs to make money, we keep them plenty busy right here at home.

I think this is just a case of Obama flexing his political muscle. Issa has been a giant dick lately to administration officials and Obama is flexing his muscle back. Pretty much just more bullshit politics from both sides.

I don't really see what Obama thinks he's going to gain from this. Yes, Issa is a jerk, but Obama is setting himself up for easy accusations of having something to hide.

Remember this when a Republican does it. Then the Dems. Then the Reps. Over and over again.

And as always it's a lame excuse.

Obviously. But the really important datum is that Obama has now willingly taken possession of this scandal. I fully realize that proggies will continue to insist it's all coincidence unless and until there is a video of Obama saying "Hey guys, let's do all we can to get guns into the hands of drug cartels in Mexico so they'll murder people and we can take away the Second Amendment". Hell, if Obama himself brought forth such a video we'd still have proggie reporters making excuses for him. (Remember "Mrs. Clinton was so upset she forgot that she did almost no work on Whitewater"?) But the rest of us are not nearly so naive as to believe that. When a politician does something damaging himself politically as well as damaging the country, he's invariably doing it to avoid greater political damage to his reputation or to his agenda.

Like most of the country I was perfectly willing to give him a pass on his involvement. Evidently the actual paper trail is not so forgiving, as Obama is trying to sweep this scandal under his own rug. Hope and change indeed.

Haha. a lot of these dealers are unscrupulous and will go out of their way to help out their VIP clients. Dealing in cash also eases the pain of seeing all those bodies on tv (right before they change the channel).

And it continues, trolls come out of the woodwork. Totally fine with what one side does even if it has nothing to do with anything other than pulling the other side through the mud.

People need to stop demonizing the other side and defending their side when they are both doing things very wrong. Instead bring up the entire picture so you can see it in context of what is going on.

And then there are the rest of us who bitched just as loud when shit like this was done by the other side of the isle. How exactly do you categorize us? If only those who bitch when the other side does something are "pulling the other side through the mud", do you believe the outrage of those who don't have a side, except for the American side? Those that are crying foul now and didn't when the same thing happened across the isle are nothing but hypocrites, plain and simple. Until you shed your political colors, you will be doomed to repeat what your side tells to to, and believe what they say. As long as people in power know that there minions only care about there side being in power and will stand behind them no matter what they do, this is the shit you will be given.

I have always said that shit started to go down hill right after they stopped shooting horse thieves. It will continue until the people from each side hold there side to a higher standard, and stop worrying about the other.

House committee is bringing formal contempt charge against Holder, then house has to vote on it. But from reading other articles it doesn't do much, just tries to force more negotiation on releasing the information that was subpoena'd.

Why won't they release the info and why would obama try to invoke executive privilege?
Only two logical answers - the white house knew it was going on, or they were involved in the cover up. Impeachment time!!!!!

More clueless dribble, and outright lies, no surprises from you. Don't let documented facts get in the way of your illusions.

Flashback to 2011...Fast and Furious always pointed back to the white house and obama.

Great article, notice it was posted in JULY 2011.

On March 25, 2009, for example, Clinton stated in Mexico City: "Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians." She also announced new efforts to stop gun-running.

On April 16, 2009, also in Mexico City, Obama made similar remarks: "This war is being waged with guns purchased not here, but in the United States. More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our shared border."

Both Obama and Clinton called at the time for bolder gun regulation and legislation--legislation that congressional Democrats may be about to introduce. Operation Fast and Furious was launched later in 2009.

Both Obama and Clinton acknowledged openly that gun control legislation would struggle to pass even a Demcorat-dominated Congress. Furthermore, Obama's claim that "90 percent" of guns recovered by Mexican police from gangs were American in origin was shown to be based on false and misleading statistics.

Wrongful death suit filed against DOJ.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-57457277-10391695/ice-agents-family-files-claim-against-doj/

CBS News has learned that the family of ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata has filed a claim for wrongful death against the Justice Dept. and other federal agencies. Zapata was gunned down by suspected drug cartel members in Mexico in Feb. 2011 with weapons later linked to an ATF case in the Texas area. Joining the claim is Zapata's surviving partner in the attack: Victor Avila.
