Wrong - the Congress is NOT required to raise the debt ceiling to pay interest on the debt.

We bring in enough cash WITHOUT GOING INTO DEBT to pay interest. As long as interest is paid first, we DONT NEED EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES like the Dictator Fidel Obama to take Congresses power of the purse and cause a constitutional crises to just to fund OBAMA PHONES.

You should really get educated before giving your opinions on things you dont understand.

lol.

"OBAMA PHONES" were neither created by Obama, nor does the program use tax money, meaning it has nothing to do with the debt ceiling.

This type of thread is the equivalent to erecting a statue of Dear Leader in the public square and circle jerking around it.

Only"progressives" worship Dear Leader willingly.

That about sums up the entirety of P&N these days. That or tar and feathering those who don't like to join in on the circle jerk.

It is only political suicide until its not. When people realize how badly they are getting screwed by this runaway mad deficit spending they will stop allowing politicians to buy votes with debt. That's really all it comes down to is buying votes with debt. I say why not just go hog wild and give every person $3,000? That's only $1 trillion a year in extra debt. Why not do it? Hell make it $15k a year. ($5 trillion) Why not? The Fed can just buy the debt and everyone will be happy. They can lie about all the inflation and when healthcare goes to $3000 a month and tuition goes to $176K a year they will just pass more laws to make them more affordable. God people are so frickin stupid. They either dont get the game or they just love being played. Take your pick.

because calling something a fee instead of tax, changes what it is?

No, it's that the money for the program doesn't come out of federal expenditures, therefore the money to pay for it has no relation to the debt ceiling.

I was already pretty clear on that, what didn't you understand?

The money only works since it encourages those affected to go vote. Had the rest of the public done their civic duty, the ability to mobilize a base with a campaign wouldn't make much of a difference.

How can one do their civic duty when they don't even believe in government.

I vote we all agree upon one thing, its time for Campaign Finance reform and the Ciizen's United ruling needs to be reinged in signifigantly.
We also need to make it easier, more accurate and yes better security in voting. I know we may not all agree on this.

Do you remember why reconciliation was necessary? Democrats had the votes needed but not enough to overcome the constant filibustering.

Obamacare wasn't passed using the reconciliation process. It couldn't be as the Senate Parliamentarian ruled it didn't qualify. I don't have the time now explain Byrd's rule, but it couldn't be passed under reconciliation.

This is why the Dems had to cheat: They took a previous House bill that had nothing to do with HC, stripped, using only it's bill#, stuffed it with Obamacare and passed it in December before Scott Brown took office. I.e., the MA voters elected him to stop O'care but the Dems thwarted them. The irony in their recent complaints is particularly sharp.

The subsequent House bill later modifying the original Obamacare was passed in the Senate under the reconciliation process.

Syllable > 2. Just sayin. 😉

Edit : Pardon the relational operator, that may be too much for some as well. 🙂
Syllable restriction wouldn't be for my benefit. 😉

Relational operator? Is that the fancy name for the alligator eating the word syllable? 😕

That's not cheating. Its following the rules. The same rules Boehner used to shut down the government when a majority in the House opposed doing it.

You won't find Democrats saying he "cheated". They just say it was stupid.

And, there's no way of knowing that Scott Brown won because of Obamacare; he had a weak opponent too.

And there were probably as many people opposed to the ACA becasue it didn't go far enough as there are people who wanted nothing at all.

So saying his election represents the current Republican position might not be accurate.

Hey, don't steal my idea! Eski is supposed to be checking on $25k (in 5 $5k incremenets, spread out 6 months apart) sellout vote buying Spender checks for all net taxpayers, so hopefully we'll have an answer soon on that. In the threads it's come up in here, it has converted at least 3-5 (I can't remember) fiscally conservative folks over to the Spender side in short order: Nothing the Spenders have proposed so far has that kind of sellout success rate on fiscal conservatives.

I hope he's getting on this, as all the economic stimulating I've got planned is on hold until he comes through. Come on man, get going on this!

I do not think we will see Republicans attempt these debt ceiling shutdown tactics again in the near term. With midterms coming up it would be political suicide in every way.

The outcome tonight was really what was needed all along in 2011. Obama had to bring the pain to the GOP tactics that were silencing the moderate voices in the GOP. Now Boehner will have room to make the kind of deals most Americans want.

It's going to have to be a bipartisan give and take for progress to be made. This means neither side gets everything they want. The Tea Party tactic of holding the line for purity doesn't work in government. Governance only works through compromise, especially when the GOP controls the house and Democrats control the Senate and White House.

I think there is a 30 to 40% chance they will try to shut down the government and cause it to default again before the 2014 elections. I wonder if they will try to impeach Mr Obama. Either of the two\three actions will drive another bunch of nails into the GOP's coffin.

Do you remember GWB? When he came into office they talked about "surpluses as far as the eye can see?" remember that?
Tax cuts for everyone, especially the rich. check
Checks for all taxpayers, check.
Return to huge deficits, check.
wars not paid for, check.

You don't understand. Teahadists firmly believe that the only reason they don't run the country is because they're cheated & oppressed.

Nevermind that they're ~20% of the voting public, if that, and likely less if turnout were greater. It's clear that they don't actually believe in Democracy, but rather believe in maintaining a facade of Democracy.

Why would they want to remember that? They want to keep on *Believing* in the same things they've always believed in, regardless of failure. If it didn't work before, that's because it wasn't hard enough or deep enough, not because their thinking was defective in the first place.
