To summarize, tapping the phone of a foreign leader is an utterly different act legally speaking than doing so for a US citizen who was the Presidential nominee for a major party.

Whatever else you are going to says about the Fox News reporter situation, it was at least done properly in that a court warrant was obtained.

A basic question in this case is that Trump would have immediate access as President for absolutely any court warrant of this type so where is it? (And significantly a court would be highly unlikely to approve a warrant in this specific situation given the potential political complications barring very strong evidence of criminal behavior being presented first.)

Incidentally, in a hypothetical world where somehow Obama used private citizens or acted completely outside of the law or the regular chain of command, Trump certainly still should not be tweeting about it and should have the FBI aggressively investigate the case and say nothing until court criminal indictments are issued and those involved are being arrested.

Please show how your examples were illegal before you make the jump to an illegal tap and not being surprised. National Security investigations and intelligence gathering are legal. Care to provide some actual evidence? Glorious leader Trump hasn't so far. Maybe you can.

Yep.

If Trump is so adamant about Obama wiretapping his building he needs to show proof or suffer the consequences. Could you imagine if anyone here made these ludicrous claims directed at a co-worker? We'd be sued and out of work. Why is the POTUS, the most powerful position on this planet, allowed to get away with this?

I just think these lies are going to one day bite Trump right in his keister. And, I'm not even going to feel pity for a man who habitually lies. Now, if Obama did wiretap his building he needs to face serious consequences. But, where's the proof? Show the American people the proof! Or, shut your damn mouth. Our congressmen and women need to grow a pair. Most are spineless and will never stand up to Trump for fear of being outed on Twitter. Oh well. I guess they'll have to go thru massive regret, that they didn't confront the orange one when they had the chance.

I wish this was South Korea. Over there, they don't put up with the bullshit*t that we do. We've just gotten too comfortable.

OMG. Just watched Fox News. I see where the nutters on this forum get it. They should honestly have their license yanked. I'm sure noone on their sets believe the nonsense they peddle but still they peddle it to their low information (err. dumb) viewers for the almighty buck.

You are interestingly suggesting a scenario where Trump has clearly engaged in misconduct with his recent tweet. In a scenario where Trump actually believes the law was broken, he should very clearly say nothing and allow the FBI to investigate and gather the evidence for a criminal case and be able to issue indictments first. (Baring a scenario where Comney was involved in which case clearly Comey should have been fired before Trump said anything publicly which would clearly tip the FBI director off.)

Trump hypothetically giving effective advance notice he knows about this illegal activility would allow those involve to cover things up to impair a law enforcement investigation or alternately flee the country and go into hiding on possibly assumed identities before they are arrested.

This is without even going into the issue that the current statement is defacto effectively accusing people currently still working under him without any proper investigation having apparently taken place. (If it had, the Trump administration certainly should have gone public with at least some of the evidence gathered way before now, not to mention that they should have been in a position to seek warrants before going public.)

I really don't see any way Trump comes out of this looking good. If it turns out to be completely untrue that Trump Tower was wiretapped, it's a huge lie.

If Trump Tower was wiretapped, it's very unlikely that Obama had anything to do with it or that it was illegal. It would also indicate that there was enough information out there to get a warrant, which means there might be more than just smoke to these Trump/Russia allegations. Then we also have to consider the fact that Trump is now selectively leaking classified or law enforcement sensitive information on Twitter from his security briefings.

Exactly. Which is why I'm happy to see a couple GOP senators realize the gravity of the situation and speak up. More need to at this point. He is singlehandedly destroying the public trust in any and all institutions. Yes I get it many already didn't trust them. Not the point.
