Trump continues to monitor far-right lunatic websites and radio shows, and one of these loons threw this theory out recently just as chum for their gullible readers/listeners. Trump, being one of those gullible readers/listeners ate it right up. This is so Poe's law that I have to think he's been putting on some "performance art. It would fail to shock me if at some point it came out that it was Trump and his team tapping phones." I've just gotten to the point that whenever I hear Trump criticizing his opponents about some imagined offense, it's something he or his administration are doing themselves..I'm starting to wonder now if he really is worried that intelligence agencies have something on him and is reacting by vomiting all over Twitter. Or..just face it, Republicans. You've elected the leader of the tin-foil hat brigade.

It's pretty much the job of intelligence agencies to keep tabs on who other (especially unfriendly) country diplomats are in contact with in the US. You can also safely bet that they Russians were recording those conversations too, so they can blackmail Trump and Sessions later. Again, it's common sense, that's what intelligence agencies do, gather intelligence and counterintelligence.
It should be emphasized that in a hypothetical scenario where Trump thought this might actually be true and acted in a vaguely reasonable manner, he certainly wouldn't be tweeting about it, he would have FBI Director Comey come into his office and give him a straight answer on whether it happened or not, which Comey would truly be required to accurately provide. (So Trump would have proof on this matter and would provide it publicly at the same time he went public with the accusations.)
If Trump suspected he was lied to by Comey, he could use other government intel sources to find out the truth on this subject. In that scenario if it turned out to be true, nothing would happen with pubic statements until right after Trump fired at least Comey and then went public with a major public announcement and some of the proof uncovered rather than just a tweet.
This is not simply about Trump libeling Obama, but him effectively making accusations against government employees who now work for him without apparently making an effort to vaguely properly investigate things first before going public with them.
This really does lead to questions if Trump should be removed as President under the 25th Amendment under the grounds he is clearly no longer mentally competent.

It's possible that's a foregone conclusion among the party, the remaining issue being when is the best timing for them politically, and can they hold out long enough?
I can no longer respect or give benefit of the doubt if he is going to make these claims without also making a case based on hard evidence.

My morning paper also reported that Trump demanded congressional investigations of the Democratic leaders of the Senate and House because he claims they are in conspiracy with the Russians. His proof-a 2014 picture of Schumer and Putin sipping coffee together at a NY gas station and a 2010 photo of Pelosi (and a bunch of other politicians) with Putin.

We don't know for sure what Trump's connections to Russia are. But there's enough there to warrant an investigation. Real Americans let the intelligence community do its job within reason, wherever it may lead; cowards suggest that any investigation is an attempt to "destroy America." The country was founded on having checks and balances for power, on questioning authority... not demanding mindless devotion.

Every federal intelligence agency and almost all the high ranking leadership of the various arms of the US military would disagree with you.
In fact to these groups, the inexplicable coziness and the strength of ties to the highest levels of the russian government that seems to reside within the Trump administration is concerning for foreign influence within the administration. Leaks are occurring because normal routes to express and investigate these issues may be compromised or are felt to not be trustable. When you can't talk to your boss, you talk to the press.
