I just saw it now. It's similar to earlier news stories, about which my reaction is disagreement with the Obama administration.
Salon's Glenn Greenwald has been probably the leading national spokesman of progressives against these Obama policies, I'm going to go post a link to his column now in that thread.
I'm a little confused about your first post seeming to say I'm not likely to post in it and your second post saying it's surprising I haven't, but you can clarify that if you like; we're off-topic.
I'd call that bill pretty freaking measurable. I'd call the spending pretty freaking measurable by the very definition of the word.

I am not sure if that makes someone a moron. The only thing that this really proves is that our system is incredibly and hopelessly flawed.

Sure do. I guess if you are incidentally voting for a third party while you're already there that's something else.
The point is that the way our system is set up precludes a third party from winning anything other than fluke elections or very small regional ones.

Dumb citizens vote for politicians like Messiah who promise them things but reverses whenever it is politically convenient. Our country won't have a political system that functions well without more parties.
D=R. They all suck. They caused all the problems. Give people real choice. Vote all of their asses out.
Why don't you vote for the Green party instead? They're much more progressive that Democrats. It's proven time and again that Democrat = Republican = Status Quo. So much for change.

i agree.
but even then that won't work. is not t he parties that cause all the problems. its the fact that once someone gets into a position of power the only real job they have is keeping that power and getting more.
so even if we did vote out all the D and R's nothing but the names would change. What really needs ot happen is a ethicial and moral change.
Voting in anyone other than the two major parties is an almost insurmountable collective action problem. If you look at the history of 3rd party candidates in presidential elections it shows this very clearly. The process that explains why is generally referred to as 'strategic voting'.
In 1992 Ross Perot ran on a conservative platform. It's pretty safe to say that most of the people who voted for him would have voted for GHWB had they been forced to choose between him and Clinton. Because they voted for their most favored candidate (Perot), they instead contributed to the election of their least favored candidate (Clinton). In 2000 it is safe to say that most of the people voting for Nader would have voted for Gore if they were forced to choose. Had they done so, he would have won the election.
Most people see this, and so they would rather take a candidate they sort of like than have one they greatly dislike get elected. THAT is why 3rd parties will never be viable in the US so long as 51% of the vote gets 100% of the representation.
I do not care about either parties. They're run by people who are out to screw us. Europeans (most of them) can vote for whatever party they want, and they form governing coalitions. Even minor parties can get seats in the government posts and have their voices heard. Your vote is never wasted. We need that in America.
But guess what? Both Democrats and Republicans love the status quo because they benefit from it, while we get screwed.
America got fvcked in the a$$ for 8 years under Bush, and Obama is continuing to screw America in the next 3 years (hopefully not another 4).
