Yes, it was polarized before he took office. However that's what his promise was all about, no need to talk about uniting unless that polarization existed. But I do believe he has further contributed to it since it's gotten worse under his admin.

And I don't believe he has made good faith efforts at uniting. For the most part (stimulus, health care reform etc) he has let Pelosi & Reid run the show, and they've made no attempt at uniting or being transparent etc. Those two are highly partisan.

In many areas Obama's words during the campaign just don't match the reality of his administration, legislation to be publicly published in advance? Never happend. The HC debate an open process televised on CSPAN? Never happened. AIG records sealed until 2018? That's the transparency and accountability he promised? He said he would sit down and go over HC reform line-by-line with Repubs, yet he has refused to do so even though some Repubs have requested it.

This year hasn't been about any "good Faith" effort and everyone knows it. It's been about ramming through the Dem agenda since they hold these historic majorities and know they are temporary.

There won't be any good faith efforts until they suit him and he needs it due to slim or no majorities in Congress (or election polls). It's naive to think otherwise.

What kind of dumb@ post is this? Whether you like him or not and clearly you don't, the guy has tried just about everything. The clunkers, had some success but your folks whined about it did nothing. The housing policies and tax credit. His policies slowed down and helped many home owners in foreclosure and the Real Estate Industry has stated that the $8000 tax credit worked to sell houses. But your folks, whined it wasn't enough, but yet when he made mention of spending more money to try to increase the benefits, your folks whined more. You can't bargain with people who don't want to bargain in the first place. Despite the mixed emotions around healthcare, something we all know needs to be fixed or at least improved, all your folks have done is go on tv and whine about how much money its going to cost and offering absolutely zero alternatives. Your folks have ran everything from tea parties, fake Palin book rallies, and shooting abortion doctors in cold blood. All true gestures of compromise by the right. I don't care for a lot of things he's trying to do, IMO he's trying to do too much. But at least he's trying, something that lousy worthless piece of garbage President we had in Bush didn't do. Its easy to criticize when you offer nothing, sit on the sidelines, and try to undermine everything. While he may be going overboard I give the guy credit for having the guts to try and accomplish something. For the right, right now they ain't worth the dirt people spit on outside.

My comments on jobs should not be taken in the context of Afghanistan. That was not my intention. My comments were in regards to Obama's overall performance.

I don't get involved in discussions about Afghanistan. I don't have any answers.

This line gave me the best laugh I've had all day. He must be delusional at this point. Certainly he can't believe this. This man is not capable of uniting the country.

I was going to list a few of the reasons why this man has polarized this nation, but what's the sense? We all know them.

I will give him credit for recognizing his own shortcomings. But, I must cancel that out for the sheer arrogance of making such a remark.
The president said his second-year agenda will be refocused on uniting the country around common values, ''whether we're Democrats or Republicans.''

You are a nut. You can't seriously doubt the intent of that remark. Without unity we are finished. I suppose you revel in dissension. Arrogance? Seriously, you must be on crack.

Out of curiosity, who do you think *is* capable of uniting the country? And by that, I am asking for something like a name.

Here's another question - do you think it is even possible to unite the country?

- wolf

The country unites better when it's not at war. Or "military action" or whatever the pubs called it.

By you folks, just what kind of straight up racism are you trying to display here? I do actually detect a negro dialect so what did you mean by "you folk?" You pissed because he isn't paying your mortgage?

If you aren't sure, then do everyone in the world a favor, default on Peace.
Why is this a good idea?
Less cost for our nation, less loss of American lives, less punishment for the innocent civilians of the middle east, justice for the natives of those lands ending the occupation, forced investment into the energy economy, the reduction and eventual end of terrorism for the USA.

Spidey your act so so tired. I think my post said "the right" which clarifies it. And by the way I pay my own mortage. Probably make more than you. And you know I am a black guy so the negro comment is unecessary. And all the cursing in the world doesn't make you tough, lil man. And last time I checked which was about 20 minutes ago I was still happily married to a sweet white lady, 15 years this July, so I think that racism garbage you can stick it.

Oh, and a cultural change would do the trick - if we as a society learn to think more critically, and especially to question our own assumptions, we would likely disagree less, and when we did disagree, we would do so less...disagreeably.

- wolf

Personally, I think there needs to be a new subject in school. "Critical Thinking". It needs to be a requirement, and needs to be taught in grades K - 12. (OK maybe grades 3-12 or something like that, but you get my point.)

LOL, I didn't even catch that.

That's a good question - What is "facial responsibility"? Is Monica Lewinsky back, interning in the White House again?

Bill Clinton: I was Facially Responsible to keep that woman on a Low Calorie diet!

That's great. I hope all the Republicans here can enjoy knowing you're nailing a white woman EVERY NIGHT. I'm sure it is very satisfying knowing you're enjoying one of their own, she is probably the daughter of a good conservative Republican like them. :D

The only people who would have a problem with your situation are Republicans and everyone else who believes in the concept of race (most people).
Those who understand science know there is no significant difference between you and your wife.
It would do the world a lot of good if multiracial marriages were encouraged or forcefully imposed upon all peoples. Thank you for braving these people, I'm sure you've dealt with a lot of unnecessary bullsht in your wonderful years you've spent together.

Death panels. Birth Certificate. Socialist. Kill Grandma. Make healthcare his Waterloo. Racist. He hates America. He doesn't see America like we do. Apologizer in Chief. Bows to Saudis. There were zero terror attacks under Bush.

I'm frankly shocked he wasn't able to unite this rational opposition...go figure.

You need to check into yourself first there spidey, but you have a question on forced racial intermarriage and breeding? It's necessary for the world to move forward. The skin tones and genetic population mix has to occur for mankind to evolve and survive. The genetic diversity is not only necessary, but will erase traditional discrimination between hues once we're all similar to east Indians. As the USA's capitalist culture continues to eats its own economic strength from within, eventually an international socialist world order or body will encourage this through intercultural exchanges. It's already being done since desegregation. Of course, I lean towards encouragement rather than requirements- through taxes, affirmative action or other methods. I don't think forceful integration will be necessary, to be honest.

Just being with each other everyday since desegregation has done much of the job, we love each other and some people can't live with that.
In case you were wondering if I'm brown or black.. I'm a light blue eyed, white skinned man of pure northern European descent.

Obama isn't strong enough to have the iron fist it would require to rectify you. The frenzy Fox News puts you guys in might seem really silly and unnecessary to most (and it is), but it will come in handy for you if we achieve what we're trying to do. It is unfortunate (for you) that all of the activists seeking social change are on the Left. We need more than Obama Change, and it is coming.

I've long advocated a mandatory basic logic course for college.

Huh? Nations by far unite betgter early in war - many wars have been started for just thart reao, to avoid some leader' domestic resistance. Go read Chris Hedges' "War is a force that gives us meaning".

Uh oh, Spidey forgot to take his meds again.

*in a gentle soothing voice* There, there, everything will be fine.
