Just to give you guys a historical reference.

Actually the word chinamen is from the Chinese word "zhi na ren" meaning a weak and feeble man who kow tows (in chinese its ke tou, another english word derived from Chinese) in front of any opposition.

I assume China is actually derived from chinamen as there is nothing in the chinese language that means the country which remotely sounds like China.

The chinese word for China is Zhong Guo, or the middle kingdom.

As to the song, the reason asians are easily portrayed as such is because in the past (say the 80s), asians probably didn't have enough political clout to really do anything.

Also, many Asians, due to a history of being exploited by their government whether domestic or foreign imperialist, have adopted a mindset of "if I don't make trouble, it'll all blow over" sort of approach.

Thus even in the states, you'll see asian american citizens who have the right to vote but demonstrate no political activism.

uh get your facts straight. china comes from Qin, the guy who united all of china.

I have never heard this interpretation. Regardless, Chinamen does come from the word " zhi na ren".

i think a better theory is that chinamen comes from china + men.

then it would not be derogatory. There is a reason why it is derogatory.

japs comes from japanese. it's still derogatory.

China is derived from the dynasty of Qin, which in the Wade-Giles spelling is Ch'in . Thus that is how you get China.

yes, i know. scroll up.

I saw it, i was just elaborating to show the spelling connection.

Wow that was tasteless. The chinks line was uncalled for, but they also mentioned Africans in the song as well. And I have never heard the show because I don't live there, but Miss Asian does sound like she may have a bit of an attitude. And all the morning shows, whether they are rock or rap say things that are a bit tasteless at times. The song was awful and they should have more respect, but this is hardly uncommon for someone to take a tragedy and make a joke out of it.

lol I actually prefer the z100 phone taps over the music they play... it entertains me for the 10 minutes it takes to drive back and forth to the train station.

Chinamen is derogatory because it applies to all asians.

Chinamen |= dude from china
Chinamen = dude with yellow skin, slanty eyes, and a funny accent.

Hence the response, "I'm korean, asshole."

Because of this a dismissive, deragatory meaning took over.

Yeah they mention "africans", not "awesome people." If they said "chinese" instead of "chinks," you might have a case.

Same here. Z100 has the worst music in NYC but they probably have the best morning show. Some of those phone taps they have are classic. I would much rather listen to them than Lala by Ashlee Simpson.

What about the argument with the listener?

Was that only tasteless too?

That was nothing. I live here in the Philly area and I can asure you Howard Stern has done 10 times worse on the air, one of the reasons he's not on the air anymore. I am not in any way defending what they did, but this all out whining about racism is a bunch of bs. Any tragedy, every tragedy has always and will always have someone make jokes out of it, no matter how serious the tragedy. If they get fired, then so be it, but trust me that little poke at poor humor there is a far cry from some real racism. And you could tell the asian chick has got a little funky tude. And like it or not the black chick was right, if the asian girl doesn't like how they do the show, then quit. Simple as that.
Welcome to America

Let's not, as respectful Asians, stoop down to these ignorant fvxkheads. We don't need to be Asian versions of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Turn the other way and ignore them. Remember they do not represent the whole. We know inside we are better than them (idiots at Hot97) by not responding to such idiocy. Just boycott the station.

All minoritys should thank their lucky stars that some damn good white people stood with some black folk to break down those racial barriers, that all minoritys and women now enjoy today. Now lynch that.

I am going to edit out that one part because it ain't all asians ignorant like you.

Who made up that song? The morning show host, or someone else?

The host and some other people who work at the station made it, which is why the Asian woman denied having any part in it.

I'm confused, are you ranting about FlyLice's or IAteYourMother's comment? Cause when FlyLice said "ignorant fvxkheads," I think he meant the people who made the song, not all African Americans. And if you were serious or not, I take offense to your first comment.

You should learn to read before running your mouth like a god damn idiot. If you read FlyLice's post , hes calling the people at the radio station fvxkheads, not African Americans. He even says "Remember they do not represent the whole."

Can you read a-hole. The first fairy says lets make a lynch song. The same fVcker whining about racism doesn't trash the guy for that idea, he just says lets be respectful, wtf. Well if at the idea of making a lynching song doesn't raise his ire, how come he's got his pantys all in bunch over this song, that clearly those dummys made trying to be funny. I don't see anywhere where he called the moron who wants to stoop to those folks at the radio station level by making a lynch song, a fVckhead. Maybe you should get your GED first before you start asking can folks read.

That station was spiraling down the drain back in the early '90s (back before I moved out of NY) when the owner of 98.7 Kiss bought them...apparently it hasn't improved since.
