We lived just outside the city limits of Silverdale for ~7 years. The homeless population is getting out of hand everywhere. Drive up/down the I5 corridor...it's tent cities at almost every interchange between...Eugene and the Canadian border. (from what I hear...I haven't been past Everett in decades)
Has it been a few months since you made the trip? Quite a few places they've displaced them from the interstate camp areas by filling the areas with boulders. I've never seen it quite as bad as you're describing here though, "almost every" doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Seriously, the bandwidth of cell carriers in the subway is going to be strained.

Think I've mentioned I noticed a fight a few months ago, but it was only the second fight I noticed in like 35 years. But if anyone is realistically thinking that crime is only in the subway they're deluded.

This added response by Hochul is however needed to calm voters down since its an election year and NYC crime has been a hot topic for lots of people.

Here's to hoping it calms voters minds!

The reality of it is that crime is low in NYC and getting lower.

Conservatives were screaming about crime in NYC in 2018-19 when actual crime in the city was the lowest it had been basically in recorded history.

There is nothing that will make them stop talking about it including the near total absence of it.

It seems that the NYT is doing a poor job of informing their readership then.

The stats are the stats.

I have my doubts on both the polls and the stats being accurate.

Generally shopkeepers say.. why call the cops, they won't do anything. So stats are only for reported crimes. Instead they raise the average price of items so we're paying for more than our own share.

Funny how when crime goes up people point to the stats but when crime goes down the stats suddenly become unreliable. lol.

It's genuinely weird how people claim to care about something and then stubbornly refuse to believe the thing they care about is getting better.

I do believe 2 stats where I live. Murders & Rapes.

Those are usually pretty reliable.

So you will be happy to know that NYC is near its all time low last year for murders, and had fewer than the city had in 2012, at a time people definitely thought the city was safe.

So great news on crime, no?

Going into the city tonight, tomorrow and both Saturday and Sunday. Besides Sunday I have to use the subway, which is totally fine and has been quite routine the last year.

The NYC subreddit is already bitching about the stupid national guard being there checking bags. What a waste of money and time. It's not solving anything. If I miss a train because of this nonsense I'm gonna go off! And probably post in the first world problems thread lol

Just how exactly are we supposed to stop this madness??

Early for my date, but had to take the subway. Just oblivious people to the chaos. I think I found Greenman or maybe a relative of his, in the second photo. Can you guess who he is?

Still remember that woman that was hyper alert and got the fuck out of car before the trouble started.

She didn't ignore her instincts at all.. and I and my wife always mention her.. see something.. get the fuck out. Don't take risks!

Too many crazy people.

Do search on what happened last time I was on the A.

Or just call me a liar so I can put you on ignore right fucking now!
As someone who rides the train every day and has for the last 12 years I feel confident I know about it.

By all means put me on ignore though, I could not possibly care less. You should curate your environment!
