I thinki the problem is atari. Atari will be the death of the series. I *think* the game has been out for a while and was fairly stable but atari manages to *@()#*)@(*#@* everything.

There was a time, back in the 80s, Atari was one of the top rulers of the console industry and had their own computer line. They focused on arcade style games. They were good, but they couldn't stay in the game against the IBM compatible for computer games and people developed a larger array of games in comparison.

I thought Atari had died. I mean, gone bankrupt and went away like Allis-Chalmers. I wish they had. That's one game company that shouldn't be in the business.

EA is the first, Atari is the second.

Atari did die ... some stupid ass resurrected its name to capitalize on the ignorant who *forgot* what a crap company Atari became when it suffered its first [well-deserved] death.
... Atari is just "stupid-evil" in the D&D world ... they belong back in the abyss forever; suffering the 2nd death with the false profit :p
:D

EA is first *only* because of it volume of sales and length of time screwing its customers

Gothic3 was painful negligence on a broken game-engine and infighting between the dev and publisher ... Atari's NWN2 is pure incompetence on an incompatible game engine
--i'd take JoJoWood's garbage over Atari's best ... on a ooB experience anyday.

No, EA is first because it screws it's customers, employees, probably it's vendors and distributors...

They don't deserve to be in business because they have zero ethics.

NW Vault review of MoB.

I feel they are bit biased, don't know how they can give it 10/10 on Polish,

Polish: 10
I am going to make a swerve here and use this space to discuss the game package itself, and what I feel it adds as an expansion. There isn?t much to say in terms of our normal ?Polish? criteria being that the game runs beautifully and the design and penmanship is spotless.
.

I would give it on polish about 7.8/10 due to bugs I encountered, camera controls that I feel could be improved and the single crash I had(all add up) not to meantion playability depends on what patch you have installed for main NWN2 game, but hey maybe they gave the beta version to the stores and only reviewers get the final version with everything fixed ;).

got it yesterday. I'm having some graphical glitches that I hope can get fixed. When spells are cast, there are big squares around the rendered effects. Such as, Magic Missle, looked like a bunch of squares flying at the baddies. My 8 year old son even commented, "we'll, that doesn't look good". Fireball was a big huge square on the explosion. These problems didn't exist in the OC. I'm using the one of the latest nVidia drivers (I think one of the latest beta 163.71), on my 6800GT. Maybe I'll try the newest .75 drivers.

I get some strange, minor graphical glitches, almost like snow, in normal NWN2 using Cat 7.9 & 2900XT.

Yeah, that's minor stuff I could live with, but I experience game stopping bugs:

1. PC's and NPC get stuck in walls or street posts. An area transition fixes this, but if you're in a fight, that's one less companion to help out.
2. Familiars and animal companions disappear between area transitions.
3. I've seen Kelgar disappear between area transitions and Tarmin (Qara's weasel) is carrying Kelgar's flaming morning star (probably all this stuff).
4. After charming an animal and going to a cutscene, the animal reverts to hostile but is now invulnerable to all attacks.

The list is numerous!

So I'm reading the various threads at their official forum and I can say I have never seen a game work their patches like Atari and Obsidian are doing. At one point it was recommended that you auto update to a certain version then immediately cancel and install the rest manually. Now it looks like they just released another patch which apparently does a quick scan of your install and will load up any changes it finds missing. I'm saying apparently because the Obsidian rep there also wasn't 100% sure what the new patch does. I'm expecting my copies either tomorrow or Saturday so I can't wait and see how this works...

You wouldn't expect it by looking at the graphics, but no game I've played stresses my videocard (8800GTS 660/1000) more than NWN2. Bioshock, STALKER, and in every other game, the core stays under 75C most of the time. NWN2 causes my core to run consistently above 80C, sometimes pushing 90C, which leads to graphical errors (usually bad geoemtry/shadows), and then ulitimately a crash or screen freeze.

Weird issue that,I never saw anything like that in NWN2,however I have seen the snow type glitches in the pass when I overclocked one of my old video cards.Normally you get graphic glitches when you push your video card too much,I have even seen it happen on factory overclocked cards too.

Gamespot review 8/10 rating.

Unfortunately, the isometric view takes a step back because it now lets you rotate the camera around. The problem is that the game never quite remembers your favorite orientation, so if you load a new section of the game or a save, you'll have to reorient the camera most of the time.Aside from those issues and a few small bugs, Mask of the Betrayer is a fairly polished game, and it's a lot more impressive out of the box than NWN2 was at its debut.

I am kinda torn here. I do want to buy MotB, however, I remember paying 50 for NWN2 and a week later it was 20 bucks.

== THEY JUST RELEASED A NEW PATCH! ==
Now its up to 1.10.1116.

EDIT:
NEW PROBLEM!!!

Alright, now the disc is found in the drive, and it starts, BUT, it only runs about 10-15 seconds and crashes to desktop. This has happened about a dozen times, with saved and new games.

What the heck is going on? Is this an old problem that I am only recently experiencing? Is it my settings?
It never crashes on the menu screen, just when I am in the game, with 3D stuff showing.
There are no graphical glitches either, it just freezes and dies.

As I stated in my first post I paid £14.99 inc free delivery which is $30 so not a bad price, end of the day by waiting the price will come down and you may also have a patch or two,so its down to play now at a higher price or wait for a lower price and possible improvements via patches.

Only reason I played it now is I have the free time and also have other games waiting to be played in the pipeline ,which are due for release in two weeks time.

There are places to pick this up for like 24.99 already, pretty sure I saw a link in Hot Deals for it, so you can def find it cheaper than $50.

I should certainly hope you can get it for under 50, given that the MSRP is only 35. :p

Eurogamer review 7/10.

Oh, and while the actual campaign itself is polished enough, there's a nasty bug which breaks the original campaign unless you install it in a very specific way. Frankly, Obsidian and Atari need to sort this out.

So where does that leave us? A mass of excellent content - any add-on pack good enough to make you start the original has more than a certain something - with a few problems.
