I did virtually all the quests I could with 1.03 patch and found only 1 or 2 bugs when I was playing it,as to stability well I never had any problems with that or any speed issues, game is very mature with latest patch IMHO.

Back to G3 again,I had lets see about 5 bugs overall, that is for me ,you might have or find more ;), as to NWN2 I stand by what I said,I have finished the game and the bugs are the ones that I found, yes there may be more ,but unless I play the game 10 times over as a tester you can't expect me to find all the bugs,as to NWN2 it is a great game.

i found literally many dozens in G3 including broken SQs and a broken MQ [ including many areas with missing textures and places you can reach you were not intended to go]... and my buggy experience was much more common than yours, from reading hundreds of posts on G3 forums.
... but then i DO attempt to Break games. ... perhaps i should apply as a beta tester ...
uh ... no ... i felt like a beta tester for G3. :p

and i am still looking forward to NWN2 ... bug free ... with the final patch

EVERYone seems to like it ... disappoints *some*, yes ... but it seems a solid game - now.

what do you get out of it?

Depends on the game, some people beta test just to play a new game before launch ,then some get special perks when the game goes retail if they stay, like special gear or status etc

Theres never anything such as a final, bug free patch. They keep making patches while the game is popular regardless of how many bugs may have been fixed.
They stop making patches when sales die, regardless of how new it may be or how many bugs are left.
(See: KOTOR 1 and 2.)

And bug free is always relative. Doom had a version 1.9 that came out early in the Win98 days and it could still crash under certain circumstances. But by then everybody was into Quake 2 and it didnt matter.

As for NWN2, 1.03 fixes a LOT of stuff.
If you want to enjoy the game, do it now. Get the main quest out of the way and then jump into the user mods. By the time you are getting tired, they'll have an official expansion.
EDIT: For heen5, try going back to all the ore sites and making sure they're gone. Thats how you know for sure they were properly discovered. Then make sure you have both miners (the man and the woman), talk to them OUTSIDE the keep until they have nothing new to say or say they took care of all the discovered ore.
Then go inside and talk to both the weapon and armorsmiths and ask to upgrade your troops.
Make sure you have lots of gold. The equipment prices grow quickly.
In fact, what did you pay for your last equipment upgrades?
You may have maxed out already.

Or buy NWN diamond edition and play all the expansions with details maxed :),the latest patch for first NWN game is 1.68, dated this year,so goes to show patches are always on going.

i dunno about there not being a 'final' patch .... D3 was the closest i have seen to "Bug-free" on release and i think there is one patch for it. ... so bugs are SO minor, they don't really need fixing ... and HW improvements sometimes completely fix them.

otoh, there are games that are never patched ... or patched by the fans

these are Devs you AVOID like the plague

i am still playing DM M&M (ch 90), Kts of the 9 is next, FEAR's xpack and then NWN2 ... which will have 1.04 by then. ;)

... next year is pretty CLOSE .:p

Look for a dancer to recruit (in act 3 only), if you get her then the bard comes on his own.

I've got a CTD bug when transitioning to act III.

Anyone got this?

*SPOILER*

After defeating Ammon Jerro in his haven, he teleports himself and my entire party out before the place collapses. Every time it transitions to the loading screen, loads or unpacks all 16 "areas", transitions to the screenshot of an "Inn" (I'm assuming its going to be my inn in crossroad keep?), and continues loading.

After doing "area updates" 1 & 2, the screen goes black and I hear music and clapping and flute playing. However, the screen stays black and after about 15 seconds the music skips and I get a crash to desktop.

Also, I never left the haven to get another party member. All the cutscenes worked correctly (I think). Shandra was killed by Ammon, so I don't think it is the same as the bug other people were having. It just won't load the next cutscene after leaving the area.

*SPOILER END*

Thanks for any help

that's quite a class mix. how many levels do you plan on taking in each? don't forget you need sorc/bard to get RDD.

i'm working on a bow ranger right now.. will probably go ranger/4fighter for weapon specialization.

datalink7 - i can't think of anything that would fix it. perhaps go to an earlier save and try from there? if you have any party members polymorphed, try having them go back to their original form. sorry i can't be of much help :(

While the Players Handbook 3.5 may allow multiple prestige classes, I dont think Neverwinter Nights 2 does.
You may want to download a hero builder mod and check that out first.

I am in the midst of a Fighter 4, Bard 1, Dragon Disciple 10, Frenzied Bezerker 5 build right now, and reached the point of having all 4 classes successfully (1 level away from a very nasty "supreme cleave" or whatever it's called). So go ahead and enjoy, just be prepared for a hefty XP penalty if you aren't playing as a human.

its kind of gay that even though i send out patrols regularly my merchants are going away and my roads are getting more dangerous. how can i fix this? also, how can i raise my 'morale' and unit strength? everything else seems ok.

Make sure they have good equipment, that they spend time training to hone their skills, and that you have sufficient numbers to allow for strong patrols.

My roads were very safe, but the lands were listed as low safety because I never sent patrols there.
