I don't "mind" dumbed down graphics for a game, what i mind, and most people on PC is dumbed down controls/UI that don't cater to PC users. Nothing says lazy game making that making keyboard/mouse terrible to use for a game.

love how they skip 1440P to uber and list a 980. 1440p on high a 970 enough?

The difference between 980 and 970 is minimal at best, the only thing that may be a slight bottleneck if the game is vram demanding but we dunno anything about that at the moment.

QFT ^^^^^^^^^^^^

This 1000 times please, don't want another game like DAI with great visuals but terrible PC controls. If we are gonna believe the reviewers it is already a GOTY contender.

In this case you would take 1 step forward, 2 steps back. You'd punish CDPR from not making a technical masterpiece, but you'd also send a signal to the industry that single player open world RPGs with 100+ hours of storyline aren't worth paying even $45 for (Green Man Gaming price is even less). Even if The Witcher 3 had identical graphics to TW2, it's shaping up to be a contender for GOTY. Name any other game released on the PC this year that is a contender for GOTY?

When we get console trash like Titanfall and Evolve with DLC packs and 0 story-line and they cost $60-120 with DLC, how is a game with 100+ hours of SP, and that likely will be The best RPG of 2015 not worth $45-60?
Witcher is about graphics. I cant enjoy the game when it looks like a saturated colourful cartoon. Well I probably can adapt, but that is sending the wrong signal to the developers.

Its different if I owned a console like Nintendo or Xbox One. I know the developers squeeze out as much is possible for the hardware. But since Im a PC owner, I feel neglected.

There are games that is oriented around fun gameplay, like Super Mario, but Witcher is certainly not a game like that. It have the potential of becoming a beautiful stunning game. It looks just poorly now. The grass, the sky, the depth of view, the textures, the lightning. Ugh. I cant play it like this.

The only way Im playing this game is A)Discounted and B)Patched with high resolution textures from CD Project + other graphic fix or C) Modded version from fans that is true to the original design.

If you think TW is only about graphics, and you won't play it because CDPR isn't melting your PC with crazy PC settings, you're absolutely doing it wrong.

Can't agree more.I am honestly amazed by the whining we PC folks do and that's why no body takes us seriously. We want us the next PC game to look like the absolute best though it will be outsold by consoles by a huge margin. We have two situations here

1.Great looking and demanding game but crappy game play, the game is criticized for not being optimized!! but hearlded as true next gen while no one [cares]

2.Great game play but average graphics, consoles are bringing us down, cough POE coughs.

I remember the time when game play was the first and foremost concern but sadly we are well past that point.I also saw some guy talking about pirating W3 in the PC gaming forum here as there will be prolly no drm there lol, sadly it seems devs are almost always spot on.

Platform unification exists – we have one build that gets distributed on each of them. The game is exactly the same, grass drawing distance is identical everywhere. The differences result from GPU having different parameters on each console for example, which could effect in differences in colour temperature.

"And how will the PC ultra compare to consoles?

You will be able to find some small differences like Nvidia Hairworks for example but they are very demanding graphically so you must have a strong machine. It’s not a political thing to say but in the future you will be able to turn on Ubersampling that killed the Witcher 2 at release and now it will do the same, so we don’t want to unlock it now. The game looks better but has absurd requirements.

Are all models and textures the same?

Yes, there’s only one version, without it we wouldn’t be able to deliver the game on time. We would have to strip it down, build and test separately on all 3 platforms which is infeasible. To we do it all on one foundation and then distribute it to all devices.

We manage the memory differently on platforms that have less of it. Less complex models are loaded, it all depends on what happens on the screen at given moment. To sum it up there are not many differences between PC, PS4 and Xbox One, they rather fix certain problems than change the configuration

Did you watch the comments under the Witcher 3 VGA trailer where some commenters complained about the graphics quality changing for worse compared to the first materials?

Yes, of course…

Aren’t you afraind that the Watch_Dogs case will repeat itself after launch, when people compared the first trailer with the actual version of the game?

If someone watches this trailer they will notice that character models in the game look better, even Geralt is more perfect – he has better shaders for example. We added tons of details, improved the facial expressions and lip sync significantly. We have voiceovers in 7 languages so we’re not able to record the changes on actor’s faces in performance capture technology like in Call of Duty for example. It wouldn’t fit into 3 Blu-ray discs. So we used a dynamic system based on sounds, similarly to TW1 and TW2 where it came out poorly. In the Witcher 3 it’s incomparably better made, we raised the bar for the whole industry compared to games that have to use the same system(like Bioware games) and that also cannot be seen in that trailer.

What is subjective though is the quality of lighting and exposure in that trailer. We made a mistake that some of the scenes was rendered in dark and grey-ish colours. Such option was simply drawn by the engine. I think there will be places where the game will look stunning and noone will accuse us that it looks different than the first trailer. Unfortunately there will be also fragments where the game will look worse. It’s the same with GTA – when the squall comes and it’s all grey, especially in the forest, the game will come out as worse than the one from the living city illuminated by neons."

Pinch of salt and all that.

No, people dont take us seriously because we settle for less and because people are just big mouths.

"Remember the time when it was about gameplay?"
Yeah for **some** games, while many developers strived to make the best possible graphics using the newest engine available at the time. A 2015 game that looks like a 2008 game is just not giving a damn about PC at all.

The art style seeming to change is what bothers me more than the lowest-denominator console development. I noticed the same thing with Watch Dogs the promotional material had a way grittier, darker look than the final product.

I do understand and I am thankful to the devs that they prioritized the game play.

You seem to be implying it's mutually exclusive how about great looking and great game-play.

It's already a great looking game, it just feels weird that some people here feel cheated.
if you don't understand why some of us feel cheated, then there is no need to discuss this any further with you.;)

I've sworn off pre-ordering so I wouldn't go as far as saying cheated, mildly disillusioned maybe. The reasons, as stated by the developer, that the PC version doesn't look as good as I was hoping and was shown in 2013 annoy me.

TW2 was primarily a PC title and was only released for Xbox 11 months later. CDPR had a reputation as a PC developer and I'd hoped they would be developing it with PC in mind and downgrading it for consoles. Now we get the console version at higher res with some Nvidia effects slapped on.

Seems they just didn't have the resources to do the PC version justice. Could still be a cracking game no doubt.

Look at the history of CDPR, these guys give EE for free and if the graphics are indeed downgraded I bet they will release an EE afterwards.

I might became a peasant in the near future if all pc games gets downgraded like witcher 3. no point in having a high end pc anymore.

Though I still love to play on PC I have accommodated myself with a console :'(
