Here is a demonstration from GTC 2013 conference where Nvidia compared Tegra 5 (codename Logan) against Apple`s A6X which you find on todays iPad.

Tegra 5 will be out in 2014.

LOL @ the Graphics from iPad :D

You can see the live demo here:

Sweet! NVidia's CPU which won't come out for at least another year can beat an apple CPU from last year!

You are kinda missing the point here. The progress being made :D

No, you're missing the point. It's not a good comparison. Tegra 5 will be 2 years newer than A6, if all holds true. That's roughly 2 revisions old for the iPad line. Do you really think the performance will be stagnant until then for the A series?

If you can`t see the point with the comparison, youre nothing but an Apple fanboy. Have you seen a touchpad playing Battlefield 3 before?
If iPad wasn`t mentioned you be all "Wow that amazing".

What resolution was that 320x280?
They didn`t say. Most likely a much higher resolution than that since the touchpads in 2014 will be 1080p. Graphic settings however, probably low :)

Possibly?

I just liked how they called the iPads graphics "Vintage 1999"

Either way graphics are still terrible by PC standards, but I wonder if it's running on a x86 based prototype build or if someone got BF3 to run on arm...

I heard him say mobile Kepler. I'd assume by that he is talking mobile version of the GPU that end up in laptops. I don't think this is Tegra 5.

It was a pathetic demo. If they want us to compare they have to give us something that is comparable, not two completely different scenes. It smells like fraud (or marketing :) ) when they sell it like this.

I'm sure Tegra 5 is going to be good, but this is not the way to sell it to me.

Um that's the point, iPad is giving "Vintage 1999" level of graphics and games, and with Kepler they'll be able to step up to the next level of graphics and game design...

How could you miss that?

@Balla
They could have grabbed a similar scene for the Ipad or Tegra platform so we could have something to compare. I don't think that would be too hard instead of finding two scenes that have almost nothing to compare.

iPad's gpu can't run BF3, that was then entire point.

Imagine this, compare a PS1 game to a PS3, you can't right? So how do you know the PS3 is faster? Because the PS3 is running next generation games.

And what AMD is giving? Only fraud stories about PS4 architecture and AMD's lunatics going crazy.

There is no need to call AMD fans (or anyone else) derogatory names in the tech forums. -Admin DrPizza

What is the point of doing even trying to do that? The iPad wouldn`t had a standing chance at even remotely pushing out graphics like Tegra5 did.

I give up this forum. Just wow

Tegra 5 can't run BF3 either, because it doesn't really exist.

I'm sure they could have found a furnished room in BF3 too and showed us how improved textures and lightning would look. If they didn't care about what we have today they could instead have showed us more of how Tegra 5 would be in a game instead of a short glimpse.

How are they going to show a comparison of that nature when the iPad gpu can't render the BF3 engine?

I think it was pretty lame to compare the current IPad GPU with NVidia one that is a full generation away. The Tegra 3 would have given the same performance as the Ipad. I hate Apple and love NVidia, but that video came across as a cheap shot.

Apparantly much more interesting if Nvidia showed a BF3 scene indoors with chairs, tables etc than outside with cars, buildings and that it is capable of rendering the dynamic particles and the lightning outside.

Silly Nvidia

The demo was done using a new ultra low power Kepler GPU and a [x86?] CPU that was downclocked to match the SPECInt performance of the Tegra 5 "Logan" CPU. So the demonstration is not exactly T5, but very representative of T5 with respect to CPU performance, GPU performance, and GPU feature set.

nVidia has access to Kepler.M. So they showed the performance. And the iPad 4 has the fastest GPU right now on the market.

BTW: Was what that for a game? I dont really believe that this was the best looking first person shooter for iOS...

All this stuff is progressing so fast it's kind of meaningless. I mean, what else would you possibly do with that much muscle than play games? The market for such increases in performance has to be rather small. Normal people will probably get a tablet and stick with it for many years.

Bare in mind it is also worth noting that undoubtably that Tegra SoC would have been at least quad core, whereas the iPad uses a dual core CPU.

NVIDIA was trying to show what graphics are like today with a state-of-the-art thin, fanless tablet vs. what graphics will be like in one year's time with a thin, fanless tablet.
