No, actually many adults would call it a foolish waste of money. They do this thing called 'cost-benefit analysis' which includes taking a realistic look at whether or not spending hundreds of dollars on hardware just to have a top-of-the-line computer is really worth it in the grand scheme of things and what other things could be better done with that money.

When you make a regular income and have a house, car(s), and family to take care of and budget for, it's unlikely one's going to be ignorant enough of pricing to think it's anywhere close to reasonable to spend $800-$1000 for GPUs.

These things are not that expensive to begin with. Common any guy with a 40k job can buy like 10 cards every year if they live healthy with little medical spendings ,, and less time at the bar buying drinks for the ladies..

Maybe if he's single and living with his parents and borrows their car and has no savings for the future, lol.

Also, 10x$400 (a low average price for a new GPU going by previous new card prices) = $4000. A $40k job, after taxes, is around $28k. If you're bringing home $28k/yr and you spend $4k on GPUs, you're insane. This again assumes you're not 18 and still living with your parents (no rent/mortgage, free food), drive a car that doesn't have a loan or lease, and are then able to save or spend everything you make.

Or, add in $10k for food and gas expenses, a couple grand for insurance, $12k for cheap rent somewhere not near a major city, and you've just spent that other $24k. Now you have 10 GPUs and no computer to put them in, no savings, no spending money, no clothes, no car payment/lease, no woman, etc. :p

What do u mean,, foolish waste of money.. If it makes me happy to buy something ,,, it's worth whatever I payed for It.. BUYING what you want has nothing to do with cost benefit analysis, don't start spraying highschool economic stuff. That isn't what i posted about.

Where in the world did you get that number from? I made over 40k, and only paid in about 4k. My wife makes more than me, and paid in about the same. We got most of it back in just this Friday in our tax return.

Getting Lasik in two weeks. :) :) :) :) :)

40K.. thats it?? I dont think you are a young man, why are you making entry level wages still? Most people get promoted at your age.
Do you not have your BA or something? What are your skills/abilities?

And your taxes seem a little low, what are you doing on your taxes...

This sort of high-handed, BS personal attack is VERY familiar. :disgust:

Yeah it's funny how he showed up right around the time AEG was being exposed and started defending Rollo. He even has the same snobby attitude as him too. Rollo used to talk down to people for not having the money for SLI and this guy does the exact same thing.

2x7900GT will defitnately outperform a X1900XTX since a 7900GT is equivalent of 7800GTX clocked at 450/1300. Prices would be same as well.

Food for thought.

I can tell you for a fact that my xtx gets ~68fps in FEAR at the same settings they used, and that's on a single core cpu. Either their numbers are too low for the x1900's, or the new 6.2 drivers really gave a big boost in performance.

*edit: when using the built in timedemo, anyways. Maybe they used a different demo, but the results still seem a bit low

2x 7800GT will also out perform a 7900GTX so why even release a 7900GTX?

A 100mhz gain on core but a 150mhz loss on the bandwidth won't give a lot of performance esp. with AA turned up. When the x1800xt was priced WAY better than the 7800GTX 512, I don't remember you waving the "better pricing" flag? Look at how well the x1800xt keeps up with the 7800GTX 512 in that nordic review.

I think we all hope Crusader gets lost soon.

To quickly answer the question regarding how I figured $28k out of $40k - for folks who are single, no dependents and don't own a house, you pay about 30% in taxes when you make around 40-45k. My first two years out of college were in that income range and doing maximum deductions took about 30% of my pay and I got around $1500-2000 back at the end of the year in tax return payment. So maybe you clear $30k, not $28k? Close enough for government work. :D

The 7900 GTX is useful in itself because it extend the top end even further, it at parity I would say with 7800 GT SLI, and enables 7900 GTX SLI, which should ensure a new level of top level performance for 2 Cards in SLI Mode.

As well that is a 100MHZ gain on Core and 100MHZ loss in memory as the differences is between 1700MHZ on 7800 GTX 512 & 1600MHZ on 7900 GTX. The 18% Fillrate increase should have quite a performance impact, but it's obviously less then the 7800 GTX 256 to 512 differences, but what Nvidia is addressing this time around is making available for everyone and not have cards so gouged in pricing.

He keeps stating that a 7800GT sli is better setup than x1900xt but following his logic a 7800GT Sli would also be better than a 7900GTX so I don't see his point.

Fillrate won't matter with AA turned up. The lack of bandwidth will be the bottleneck unless they redid their AA and made it efficient.

Yes Fillrate does matter plenty even in high workload situations of AA & AF, since the architecture has remained fairly constant, 256Bit 1.6GHZ GDDR3 is not exactly a slouch in that memory bandwdith department either. You will be unlikely to find any situations where the 7900 GTX is slower then 7800 GTX 512. A 5.9% decrease in memory bandwdith will have less effect then increase core clock by 18%.

I personally wouldn't choose a 2 Card Setup over one, if the 1 Card can provide equivalent performance in the same product lineup, there is other concerns to address if the card came another vendor though.

damn you Mathia, where is your comments on Joker? you seem to blame everything to me ..Why? because you are ProAti as was joker.

If you have a bias, then you should step out rather than to "try" to be the mediator.

clearly, you and Mathia are just too biased to call on Joker , so you guys called on me.

why don't you, yourself, drop it? Its none of you, or Mathias' business unless you consider yourself biased. Are you? If not, then DROP IT!
