IMO this card is a big slap in the face to the AGP user's(myself included) out there. Yeah we won't just come out with a 7800GT AGP card for ya- we will go put extra effort into bringing this castrated overpriced piece of garbage to the market. What a waste.

NVidia 7800 GS AGP < Sorry, but this card is a joke and a step backwards not forwards for AGP users. We want Full-power-7800's nVidia, not castrated, under-powered on purpose next gen. Get A clue and quit trying to pimp us into SLi-PCI-e nForce4 motherboards which we don't care about or need.

We're here! We're AGP! and we're in your face!!

RivaTuner doesn't support it yet, so trying to unlock it now (which I HIGHLY doubt you can) is pointless.

If nothing else...the release of 7800GS puts some presure on ATI to release a faster AGP part (if they plan on discontinuing the X800XT & X850XT anytime soon) OR start droping the price on the 850XT in AGP.

Need to see how it compares to a 6800GT or 6800GS to see if it'd be a worth while bump.

The ATI agp card was the PE version, not standard, the card was downclocked also to min Nvidia speed. The card support to cost around $300, the PE ATI $400!

What is the problem, for me, on a 12x10 limited LCD screen, its will give me another year before AMD new socket pletform!

So I'm about to sell my 6600gt for 100.00. The deal is allready confirmed and I must have a new card by the end of this month. Which card do I buy to last 1 to 1.5 years? My A8V Deluxe motherboard is perfectly fine and I don't want to switch just for a pci-e graphics card. Should I just get the 6800GS and say screw the 7800gs? That would make the 6800gs a 100.00 upgrade?

Given you would like to manage 18 months before an upgrade, the 7800GS might be the best buy for you. The feature set, PureVideo, and performance when overclocked give it the longest legs IMO of the AGP cards available.

Hmm i dont see this as a dissapointment. I wouldnt want to be playing new games at 16x12 with this card anyway. More like 12x10.
Plus I think its pretty good that A) it OCes to 490~ on the core and 1300~ on the mem, B) You get many features that the X80XT is missing (S.M 3.0, pure video, HDR, etc) C) Its going to get cheaper as it looks like the demand isnt that big (as seen by the threads response to the card), D) low power, heat E) I would get this over a X850XT because MOST big name brands like EVGA has it factory OCed to 460mhz on core which clearly would beat the X850XT PE. F) Get this card if your going to play doom3 engine based games e.g prey, QW ET.

That is pretty much my take on it.

i think it's a dissapointment in the fact that many AGP owners were expecting a high-end performance GPU, the 7800gs AGP can't even be considered high end, it only rivals the x850xt in performance. granted the 7800gs AGP has all the features of the G70 series, and has nice OC headroom (a big plus), but it's performance is still behind the 7800gt which can be had for a similiar price.

I agree that they should have made a better effort to give the AGP'ers a little more. But at least they cared enough to release it, ATI doesn't seem to.

That's the whole point nVidia is trying to make. They want you to upgrade so they can sell those chipsets to you as well as graphics cards. Good marketing, but I concider it a$$holish to the consumers.

Same Exact situation here. I dont have the money for an upgrade to PCI-e and my lanparty board runs great. Im selling my Evga 6600gt to a friend this weekend. This would be the last upgrade to my Rig for 18 months until I get a new Pc for College. Since I'll have the rig for a long while i think i will go with the 7800GS, unless someone has a better solution?

Hmm the 7800GT started selling for $499? It did sort of have 7 months for the price to be dropped to 300ish. :)

Give the GS its time. I wouldnt be surprised if the price dropped below $250 or less.

edit - from FS this card has 8 ROPS!!!! i didnt realise but it still performs well. Beats a ultra, single slot and etc

A 7800 GS over a 9800 Pro (my current card) is fine for me. $350 is a bit expensive but not as bad as having to upgrade CPU and mobo along with the video card. This will do fine for me (I just bought it at Best Buy) for the next year. If can get around $100 for it next year when I'm upgrading, it'll be all cool.

Ouch. I hope some of the partners dont do as this suggests.
This is really a slap on the ass of the secretary. It demeans us.
Oh well.
It looks like the best card that Nvidia does to support the 30" displays in AGP is.sss.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s......................NOTHING
the best card for 30" displays in AGP is..........the X1600Pro.......
life is a joke and I am not laughing.
