Now that NDA is over, how do you really feel about bulldozer ?

AMD lied about IPC improvements. Twice. First with Phenom, and now with Bulldozer. False advertising.

At the low end, maybe. At the high end they've got nothing.

The High-end is out of my Budget either way.

I really am disappointed in the overall CPU market. Yes, Intel and AMD do have decent processors for differing markets but the days of cut throat competition are over. This has been the case since Core 2 in my opinion. I miss being excited about the next big processor architecture from either company. I fear those days are indeed gone for good.

And imo, the codename for Bulldozer should have been "Rollercoaster" because of all the BS surrounding it. Both from AMD themselves and the enthusiast community.

Bulldozer is just OK at best.

Even at the low end you can now get dual-core Sandy Bridge Celeron and Pentium CPUs with much better performance per watt.

For HTPC, gaming and general business use I can't think of any price level where AMD makes sense for a new system.

They really should have made a 32nm die-shrink X4 or X6 -- they'd still be slower than intel but at least they'd be cheaper to make and lower power than current chips.

Sigh. Without competition, intel won't be pushed as much to drop prices and improve performance. I miss the socket 939 AMD 🙁

Is there *anyone* who is going to trust a new CPU launch again, if they don't show early previews of it ?
Endless delays & broken promises got them in a hole so deep, it will be very difficult for them to come out of for their next launch if they aren't up front with what people can expect.

That translates to, if they don't show anything in advance, then you know it is a dud.

I think in 24 months (Oct 2013), Intel will have Haswell out the door. It's going to take a leap of faith for AMD to beat that CPU.

Remember, I didn't say a PhII @ 4.6GHz, I said a tweaked PhII that had another 10% IPC. Would it be competitive with higher end Intel parts? Probably not. Would it be better than Bulldozer? Yea. I thought that doing that would have been able to come to the market faster than the often delayed Bulldozer, and likely outperform it. It'd probably be a smaller die too.

Everyone keeps mentioning this.....the problem is no matter how high they clock BD it is a complete and utter failure compared to SB. maybe at 4.6 it would close the gap to SB at stock clocks but SB easily goes to 4.6 as well in which case BD would still be obliterated.

I can't believe I actually thought this was going to be competitve.....What a joke. Probably the worst CPU launch of all time.

See above. I wasn't suggesting they would overtake Intel. But, I believe it would be better than what they came out with today.

I guess I won't be getting a bulldozer CPU. I'll either wait for Ivy Bridge or go pick up a 2500k/2600k from MicroCenter instead when I get around to building a new desktop.

The Bulldozer product line needs a price cut. Considering that many of these processors perform no better than a Core i3-2100 in general office and gaming applications, they should have the same price point to be competitive.

I bought a 8120 today. Some of us had systems built and ready for it. Overall I'm disappointed, but at the same time, not going to really see a difference.

There is not really an option for people who Still will buy after the Results. There are many of us, Newegg is already sold out of 8150's.

I think the LLANO CPU cores are just fine for the moble market. Sure they could use a little more pop for the desktop market. But I would rather see the memory controller and GPU improved in LLANO before the CPU cores. Right now if I was building a budget rig for a family member or friend I would chooes the LLANO over the I-3. The APU is the future and AMD is lucky to have bought ATI and should be competive because of a huge GPU advantage. That will only get worse for intel in the future once the AMD APUs include the next gen GPU and there are more programs that take advantage of the processing power of GPUs. IMO AMD should just ditch the bulldozer for desktops and put all it has towards the APUs. Get a next gen LLANO with 6 CPU cores and next gen GPU on board.

Truly a sad day for AMD desktop fans. Interlagos makes a fine offering for the server market but Bulldozer does not competitively stand up to Sandy Bridge. It's not even in the same ballpark. I've been running AMD system builds exclusively since the release of the 5x86 150mhz cpu back in 1995, 16 years with AMD! Since 1995 the ONLY AMD cpu I have not personally owned is the first generation Phenom cpu's and sadly Bulldozer will make two.

Like so many others, I too ran out and upgraded my motherboard to a 990x Bulldozer ready board, disappointed I did not wait. I despise Intel's vile business practices and out of principle I've done everything I can to support AMD throughout the years. I've built 1000's of AMD systems over the years for family, friends, and customers. For the first time, I cannot recommend a AMD system build over a Intel (Sandy Bridge) setup for gamers and most power users. Intel has a superior price/performance CPU with Sandy Bridge and nothing in AMD's lineup competes.

AMD, you need a "Return of the Jedi" with Piledriver. Please dont make me join the dark side (Intel). Principles or not, you still need to earn my loyalty I wont tolerate a second consecutive disappointment with these kind of numbers against Intel's offerings when Piledriver is released.

Performance to $$$ ratio coupled with upgrade path and cpu demands of games and most apps on the market AMD has been competitive with Intel. Faster No, viable alternative yes. For me, it does matter who makes it. Intel has a LONG black stained history of vile business practices that dont sit well with me. If I can help it, I dont want to give Intel my money. Also, I value AMD in the sense that they have a heavy hand in driving innovation forward and keeping prices down for everyone. As consumers, we need AMD to be viable. This is why I supported AMD all these years. But Bulldozer is pass for me as was first gen Phenom which "at least" was on average 25% faster than the X2. Bulldozer is roughly as fast Phenom II clock for clock. Thats what makes Bulldozer such a disappointing release.

Unless you are in the niche market of heavy use of multi-threaded applications, Bulldozer is "at best" is a parallel upgrade for the vast majority of the AMD camp.

It should be competitive in perf/$, but thats about it. Unless the server parts are clocked VERY low, the power consumption will be unpalatable compared to existing Opteron and Intel choices.

People have different criteria for selecting a product. What equates to cpu speed may not be high on his list.

Walmart certainly gives you more for your dollar, but I refuse to shop there.

I buy intel exclusive . Because I believe they are the Tech leader so I support them .

Walmart is another issue. I small town . Since early 60s 5 mall areas have been built. The downtown went into decay and all but Walmart are losing money . Mom and pop stores closed threw out the USA . Malls are bad for America but easy on foolish 1 shop customers. Who destroy their own communities buying into big business . Small business works Big corpurations destroy the competion. But when it comes to many products big works . but there is still a price to pay. I won't shop walmart either
