some video we can watch only if we have Gmail ~ really hate that !

You serious? Post a link please!

I don't believe you actually have to have a "Gmail" account, but there are videos that require a Google account. I don't know if you can even have a Youtube-only account anymore, but there were always a certain number of videos that required you to be logged on.
Usually, I think it's for videos labeled as "mature content" or what have you.

Part of what's ruined Youtube is their stupid audio enhancement. It's so choppy on one of my videos. I tell it to revert to the original audio but that doesn't stick. Grr....

The gmail account is required for profile settings. They want age verification to watch mature content videos. No different than going to a forum and them requiring you to make an account to post.

Considering how expensive YouTube must be to run, introducing some ads ( which never seem to go over 30 secs) that many allow you to skip after 5 secs is no big deal. Its a free service that works quite well and can even pay out to some of the content producers. Yeah....totally ruined.

DAMN PEOPLE use adblock. Fvck's sake!!

But yes youtube has no bandwidth and the inability to pre-load is one of the worst things, especially since it was the only good way to negate their dial-up server speed. Youtube is not usable during peak hours.
Download it. Mute the video, start the download, and go do something else for awhile.
Nope, this simply does not work anymore. I educated people on how to buffer online vids years ago. It's amazing how many people don't realize if you hit pause as soon as it starts it will keep DLINg--except youtube no longer allows it, certainly not in all cases.

i love youtube, probably my favorite site in the history of the internet, but it has been acting gay lately. The lack of buffering is annoying, it always seems to freeze right in the pinnacle moment of the video where you're waiting to see the car crash, or the person fall, or the cat do whatever it is the cat does that is funny in cat videos. And the sound has been f'ed up, a lot of times it will crackle when I scroll or multitask. My computer is also old so that may have something to do with it.

But aside from that, the content is amazing. So much shit, but sooo much good stuff that is actually intellectual, creative, insightful, helpful, or enlightening. You young people don't know what it was like on the internet before videos were easily accessible. Horrible I tell you...

I think that has more to do with your PC rather than a sync issue inherent to YouTube. I never get delayed audio.

The 1/5th buffering thing did catch me as odd and annoying at first. But if you think about it, it's to not chew up bandwidth on mobile devices. This way you don't have to download the entire video in order to watch the first few seconds of it before clicking the back button.

the buffering change is what annoys me the most, also its just slow, even super popular videos load slow as shit when watching in 720/1080p

also about ads - Operas built in ad blocker has always blocked them. i didnt even know they existed until ~6 months ago when i was on someone elses computer

probably true, but it appeared one day out of the blue, i do not regularly change or mess with my computer software - an adobe flash update sort of fixed it but it is not as good as it used to be.

Does anyone have a good youtube to mp3 converter? dirpy.com used to be very handy, definitely easy to use, but it appears to be non-functional, and when it did work the audio stream was MUCH lower quality than what appeared in the video. not like AM radio, but a very noticeable decrease in quality. i haven't found a good replacement yet.

He didn't say "pause." He said "mute."

Would love to, but I have to go through a hassle of disabling it and reloading every time I want to watch something on Hulu or Crackle.

I use avidemux. It's maybe more fully featured than you want, but it works.

Edit:
I used FLVextract sometimes on Windows. It's super easy, and it works. I don't guarantee this download link, but I guess it's ok...

I run ad block, and still have to sit through an ad before every video. I flat out refuse to do it anymore. If there isn't a competing service then I'll do without amusing videos. The shit just has to stop.

I use AdBlock and a user script that preloads and skips ads.

"YouTube Auto Buffer & Auto HD & Remove Ads"

Win.

Its sad to see how many people think servers and hosting are free. If you do not like like people making money, move to china or russia.

Do you work for free? So why should youtube?

I didn't ad block for a very long time for these reasons exactly.

Then ads starting flashing, rolling out over content and being otherwise completely obnoxious.

So I started adblocking. I've never clicked on them in any case.

It's sad to see how many people don't want their computers to work for them, and display what they want them to display. If you don't want to be the owner of your computer, buy Apple, and let them do the thinking for you.

If so, my grass needs to be cut and my truck needs to be washed.

Actually, I do a fair amount of work for free. I don't have to extract pennies from everyone I meet to have a successful, fulfilling life :^)

basically this, if all ads were just text or non moving pictures i would not have an issue with them. however they got super annoying so i blocked them,

also as ive never clicked on 1 ever, it makes little difference

The slow streaming of HD video depend on the popularity of the video. If it is very popular it loads quickly. If it is a somewhat obscure video, then you're SOL.

Thats great, when can I expect you? My chicken coop needs to be cleaned out.

Its not a matter of "extracting pennies", there are plenty of people who make good money from youtube. To a lot of people its like a second job.

Would you make excuses to cut your neighbors paycheck? John does not need that extra money to pay his house note, so lets just cut his pay.
